Yes. Maybe questionable in the old Big East but I definitely still expect to win the conference with this team.

Really? I dont think its impossible but SMU is loaded. I expect them to win the conference. I think we can definitely make the tournament though, so long as the team develops into their bigger roles.

Interested to hear some feedback...
Which ONE newcomer are you most excited to see next season? Why?
Cobb, Morman, Clark, Ellis, Moore, DeBerry, Strickland?

Cobb, brings skillset we haven't seen in ten yrs to go along with TC with his passing ability. Its going to be nice seeing fastbreaks ran the right way last year.

Lots of interesting story lines.

1. Morman. Befor his injury many thought he was the most ready for the jump from HS to College.

2.Strickland. Did we miss the added depth he could have provided last year.

3. Ellis. He gets booted, comes back and apparently elevated his game.

4. DeBerry juce JUCO player who is expecting to give us some legitimate size inside scoring we haven't had in forever.

5. Cobb a combo guard that is a outside scoring threat. For those who like drama, he was kicked off a team already.

6. Clark. Everyone is excited to see Clark after the senior season he had.

7. Moore big body with shooting touch.

As I mentioned lots of story lines.

Cincinnati badly needs 2-3 guys to step up and become consistent scorers. I think Kevin Johnson, Troy Caupain and Shaq Thomas become those guys. Then they'll need varying contributions from Sanders, Guyn, Ellis, DeBerry and Cobb. Whatever they can get out of Clark, Moore and Morman is simply a bonus.

I agree on TC and KJ but Shaq will need to guard and hit the glass or he will be limited in playing time. Have you heard anything on Morman. This time last year many thought he was the one most ready for the college game.

He is very raw offensively. In high school, he scored by simply being more athletic than his opponents. He'll get his points primarily in the fast break and off of broken players. I do think he has a chance to be an excellent defender as soon as next year.

I'm intrigued by Morman. I know Mick said the main thing for him offensively is learning to slow down. Someone also asked Mick a question about him practicing and I don't remember exactly how it came up, but Mick said Morman wasn't afraid to go hard in practice and even when preparing for games he would stand up for himself and not allow himself to be subbed out by the other guys. I like the sound of that. Mick also said between him and KJ, he wasn't sure how teams would get it across half court!

Have to say I am most anxious to see Morman. Supposedly he is a beast defensively and a very good slasher. It will be interesting if TC,KJ and Morman are on the floor at the same time.

1 clark(uc's next great player) 2 cobb(nifty little bomber) 3 Strickland(just a guess but I think he is the real deal) 4 morman(I think he will be like a lot of players we have had slasher/defense) 5 deberry(hope he is at least as good as cheik m.) 6 ellis (the one i am the most worried about) 7 q.moore (the kid is going to be able to score but i think he is going to need the most time)

I've heard from a regular practice attendee that he can't shoot it in the ocean, but that athletically and defensively, he is a beast. Sounds like a BEARCAT to me.

Keep in mind, that was a mid-season observation. His shooting may come around.

Shaq needs to work on his form, you can see he shoots a very flat shot and does not release at the peak of his vertical. A few small technical changes could dramatically help his shot.

certainly hope so.thanks for the update.

I saw a post on Chad's board where they were predicting the starting lineup. One of them seemed really interesting...
G - GG
G - TC
F - Shaq
F - Sanders
C - DeBerry
Found it interesting bc it's kind of like the 4 guards and Yancy lineup. Mick likes starting upperclassman too. Obviously this would put a lot on DeBerry and Shaq would have to be a way, way better rebounder.
Part of the reason it worked a few years ago was bc Yancy put up good numbers for a true back to the basket college player, and Parker played bigger than Shaq does.
I'd personally have a tough time not starting Johnson, but the idea of Sanders and Shaq both made me think.

IF they were to use that lineup. I see TC and GG switching positions.
Also, idk if this would be a starting lineup, but I could see this depending on a matchup of the other team for a few minutes here and there

To me Sanders hasn't shown anything that says he should be a starter. I'm not convinced he should be coming off the bench but UC is a little weak in that area. I really hope by next season KJ, Shaq, and TC improve enough that GG and Sanders are only given spot minutes.

Mick lost so much defense with this year's seniors, I don't see any way that he doesn't go back to GG starting, if for nothing else, to anchor the defensive situation he'll be faced with. Everyone keeps hoping that GG fades into the sunset, but I believe he'll be a much bigger piece of the puzzle than everyone thinks.

I could see something like that to start the season possibly (flipping TC and GG as well as JS and ST) but I hope that changes very quickly. As long as the best men win the minutes in the long run I don't care too much about who is starting.

I tend to agree with you. Mick starts the guys he trusts on defense. We would all like to see Sanders and Guyn play secondary roles but unless some of the more offensively gifted players make huge strides defensively, I think they are going to be playing much more prominent roles than many of us anticipate.
