Next years team

Fans tend to say "add 15/20/25 pounds" in conversation about a player as if it is is easy to do. That is very, very difficult for anyone to do, let alone someone with a very narrow frame and base like Shaq. You need to have the bone structure that enables you to add that type of weight. Some guys simply cannot add that type of weight. I think Shaq is that type.
doesn't mean he isn't strong. Only players on.team that should be stronger than Shaq are Sanders, guyn, Strickland and deberry

Shaq will never be stronger than Quadri.

IMO Quadri might just be the most intriguing prospect coming in next year. He has a huge frame already and could be a total beast after a couple years of weight training in the program. He is an excellent shooter, with legitimate 3-point range and has good moves in paint. He also played in one of the toughest levels of HS ball in the country and was routinely double teamed. He's gone up against top recruits like Towns and Delgado and played well. He would have likely averaged 30+ ppg if he played against the same level competition as Gary Clark faced.

That being said he isn't very athletic, but has a big frame and great skill. Once he gets conditioned to this level I believe he could be a really nice scoring threat because of his versatility and size.

Are you saying Quadri is better that Clark? How many you think Clark average in Moore league?

I wasn't comparing the two. Moore is a better shooter than Clark, but that's about it. Clark would still have done great in Moore's league. Probably a few less points and rebounds due to the increase in size he would have faced. They are really two completely different players anyway. Clark is athletic, plays above the rim and is a threat in the open court. Moore is big, somewhat physical, and is a threat with his outside shooting.

Interested to hear what everyone thinks...
What ONE position do you feel best and worst about going into next year? And what's most important... depth, experience, or potential?

I'll go with guard play. TC strikes me as an emerging leader. Overall for the guards, I thought KJ made great strides towards the end of the season and seems willing to take big shots.

I'm going to totally cheat on your second question about depth, experience, and potential and say the most important for this team next season is opportunity. There are minutes to be had across the board let's see whose hungry enough and willing to work to get them.

That same description would have fit Danny Fortson. Dare to dream.......

Guyn - 17
Caupain - 25
Johnson - 21
Cobb - 16
Morman - 11
Sanders - 18
Shaq - 25
Ellis - 17
Clark - 14
DeBerry - 16
Strickland - 10
Moore - 10

How are the minutes going to work? We arent going to have 12 players averaging 10+ minutes. I do think a Huggins team had 11 guys at 10+ minutes so maybe something close could happen.

I think the numbers will be very different at the end of the year then they will be at the beginning.

You can't get into a rhythm with numbers like that some people will not play much and 1 person will def redshirt.

I dont see a redshirt on this roster.

Things happen that the team has no control over...

Did anyone see Strickland not being able to play or practice, did anyone predict transfers of JD3 and JL? Nobody predicted that Cash would blow knee out, same with Mike Williams achilles or Mormons ankle. Better to have an insurance policy so that things like playing Lawrence out of position don't happen.

The roster always shortens once conference play hits. 8 man rotation is likely with maybe a guy getting spot minutes, happens every year with mick. He'll play the guys he trusts, and I doubt he'll trust 12. My guess now would be Deberry, Ellis, clark, shaq, Sanders, kj, guyn, caupain.
That said I have no idea who will step up, and how all the piece will fit.

Mick has definitely shortened the rotation throughout the year. A lot will depend this year on the 5 new guys at PF and C. How many good minutes can DeBerry give us? Can Ellis give quality minutes at 4 and 5? How many minutes at a time can Clark play? 80 minutes at the 4 and 5...Sanders and Shaq can eat a few of those if we go small, but I just cant figure out how exactly its going to work if we are 8-9 deep at the end of the year. I agree with the guys you named but it seems like the Moore/Strickland combo may have to give 18 minutes combined just to keep our size. And Cobb might be the best shooter off the bench.

The only two I could see redshirting would be Clark or Moore.

It wouldn't make sense to redshirt a juco...

Ellis
Cobb
Debarry

It wouldn't make sense to redshirt...

Sanders
Guyn

Already redshirted...

Thomas
Mormon
Strickland

I don't think it's likely...

Caupain
Johnson

That leaves...

Moore
Clark

I could maybe see one of these two redshirting. Whether it's conditioning, strength, defense, speed of the game, work ethic, not enough minutes, etc.

Clark would be the most likely to me since he might have the most potential to waste likely sitting behind Thomas. I don't think he is big enough to play the traditional 4 except for maybe a few minutes here or there. Moore is fighting for time at a position(s) that has no clear starters and he and Ellis are the only guys that resemble a true 4. Debarry and Strickland? Not so much. Thomas or Clark? Not ideal. However, if Clark is too good to keep off the court...we could just play two SF's and a C.
