Thats great that shaq is gaining weight. I thought he was at 200 last year . I feel he should get to at least 215, but i would prefer 220, so 5 pounds can go to his legs. Shaq should avg 15 this year.

That's some serious weight gain. Guys like me can put that on in a month or so (in all the wrong places), but for guys like Shaq it's Mt. Everest. I would expect him to be around 205 at the beginning of the season and drop to about 190 by the end of it.

Yep. Weight gain is one of those things I think people really struggle to understand within the context of playing major D1 sports.

As you alluded to gaining weight and gaining good weight are two totally different things.

The ease with which guys like myself add weight plays into the misunderstanding IMHO.

I just don't think people realize how hard it is for someone to add (and more importantly keep) 25 lbs of good weight. It's not something you can just snap your fingers and do, especially when you are practicing and as a result metabolizing a lot of that weight.

It isn't that easy to just put on that much muscle. As long as he maintains his current weight during the season he will be fine. I am expecting something like 14 points and 5 rebounds a game next year!

I'd love to see him drop 14 a game next year, but I just can't see that happening. He only scored 14+ in two games all of last season. He just wasn't consistent enough. I think double figures is in the realm of reality, but that'd be a big jump to get up to 14. That's around what Maxiell would average jr/sr years.

I think the "safe" bet is that he won't. But I'm inspired by what other players have done... most recently Justin Jackson. Quoting another Jackson, "Keep Hope Alive!"

wow so first day of practice actually starts today, I think it's somewhere around 65 days left until there first game so that's a pretty big change from what it used to be.

They get ten practices to prepare for their trip to the Bahamas in August. Then they won't be able to practice again until the normal time mid-October. It is nice to get the extra work in with all the new faces and with new players needing to step into leadership roles. Teams can do a trip like this every four years.

@JonRothstein
Quadri Moore is extremely skilled as a big. Cut from same cloth as front court players from Wisconsin. Can step out away from the basket.

@JonRothstein
Palpable buzz at Cincinnati surrounding Octavius Ellis. 6-10, long, and active. Great second and third jump. Going to be a major factor.

Cincinnati lacks a true alpha dog but Bearcats have 11 capable players. This team will go by committee. Similar to 2011 squad. Deep.

There is no simulation for Cincinnati's toughness. Bearcats compete on every possession like its the Final Four. The epitome of culture.

@JonRothstein
Early prediction on Cincinnati starting five --- Ge'lawn Guyn, Kevin Johnson, Shaquille Thomas, Octavius Ellis, Coreontae DeBerry....

3 people with nothing but great things to say about the Bearcats: Ralph, BearcatMick and Jon Rothstein. I kid of course, I like seeing his tweets because it's always good to see a national guy showing some love.

Haha i tweeted something similar earlier. I can't take the things Jon says too seriously because all he does is love on teams, but I do agree with most of what he said.
