Not justifying that fan at all. But regardless of what he said, Marcus should have the "smarts" ;) to walk away. That could have ending way way worse than how it did. You don't square up on a fan and look like you're about to knock him out, then proceed to get physical with a fan. Of course everyone is going to play the race card and make it into a huge white/black thing which is sad.

Did anyone listen to the SMU game last night on 700 wlw? You could clearly hear some very nasty things coming for their fans but you don't see players or our Coach going after them. Marcus should have never laid hands on that guy.

There's a rumor going around that the fan said "Go back to Africa." If that's actually the case, I don't think there should be any punishment on Smart. But again, I don't think that's confirmed.

Dan Hoard tweeted that he thought the student section was WAY too close to the coaches and media, and that he'd never seen anything like that. Their students could've behaved much better, but I think whoever made that their student section really screwed up. That isn't right. I swear a couple of those kids could've reached out and grabbed Cronin if they wanted to.

I actually feel really bad for Michigan State. As soon as they get Payne back, they lose their senior PG Appling. If they could ever get the whole team healthy, they'd have a great shot to get to Dallas for the Final 4.

I'll never feel bad for Michigan State, they won our national title in 2000 when Kenyon went down...

Three points.

1. Marcus Smart was wrong and should be suspended.
2. If the fan said what reports indicate the fans ticket should be taken away. At some point in life its time to grow up and act like an adult....
3. The word in question is used far to often casually, which creates a double standard. Not saying its right, simply saying it shouldnt be used at all from anyone in any context, being that it is truly offensive.

Honestly the book needs to been thrown at both the player and the fan... They need to set an example out of the two that things like this is not acceptable..

Completely agree. As a society when we start justifying one action because of another then we break down. If the guy said something innappropriate, which I'm sure he did, that doesn't justify getting physical with somebody. Ask Trayvon Martin's family how they feel about somebody being allowed to escalate matters in response to something they don't like. Of course had this happened in Florida, this Jeff Orr character would've had the legal right to kill Marcus Smart for pushing him...

I could tell by Smart's reaction that the guy had to have said something wildly inappropriate. To elicit that sort of reaction, it had to be either racial or personal in nature.

I think punishment for Smart is fair, but nothing more than a game or two suspension. The school should investigate the actions of the fan and if they can reasonably conclude he used a racial slur or something similar, he needs to be punished as well. Maybe not banned for life, but at least for the rest of the season.

Anyone watch the ending to that MSU/Wisc game? Very entertaining. MSU trailed by 5 with about 20 secs left, tied it up, Wisc hit a jumper with 2 secs left, MSU missed a half court winner by inches. So there's one team UC probably remains ahead of in the polls.

I couldn't believe how close they were either. I mean I have no problem with a home court advantage but it did seem pretty ridiculous how close they are to the bench. I mean when you can't even listen to the radio commentators but can hear everything wasted students are saying...Theres something to be said about that.

I think we will be ranked between 9th and 11th. Michigan and Michigan State both lost this week, so we will stay ahead of them. Kansas and Duke will pass us. Creighton and St. Louis are maybes.

"Mr Racist Tough Guy in the Stands"...what a joke. Why not just meet the player after the game in the street tough guy? You might want to thank your lucky stars it wasn't Ron Artest. Get him out of the stands for good...the players don't need him and nobody wants to sit next to him...he ruins the whole game for everyone. I can just imagine having kids at the game sitting next to this jerkoff.

That being said...Smart needs to be Smarter and reallize the world is full of these idiots...and there is one or two in EVERY crowd.

If someone next to me in the stands yelled garbage like that, I would be the one getting kicked out of the arena...

MSU's biggest problem is their coach. They can't win tough games on the road and his offense is always stagnant. (Sarcasm).

Watch the video nts... seems very clear imo

I mean he probably said that, I just have a feeling it wasn't the only thing he said.

If he was truly serious about that, then he should sue ESPN, etc for slander. I have a feeling he won't do that because he just wants this incident behind him...
