Auburn up 2 points at #2 Florida in the second half. Boston College and #1 Syracuse tied with 2 minutes to go in the Carrier Dome.

Makes that close game with Houston seem more comforting.

Speaking of Houston, they are giving SMU a good game. SMU is up, however, 37-33.

Refs get to make a game changing call at Cuse and what a call it will be. That's the closest I have ever seen a possible contact. I save give it to Boston :) and they don't, because Syracuse is Syracuse.

Looks like #10 St. Louis is going to OT against 9-16 George Mason. GMU fouled with 5 seconds and St. Louis made 1/2 FT's to tie...

#2 Florida looks like they are going to hang on at home against 12-11 Auburn.

#1 Syracuse down 1, in OT with 30 seconds to go against 6-19 Boston College.

That blow out win against UCF was relieving with what happened tonight to other top teams.

If you had 6-19 BC knocking off undefeated Syracuse in the Carrier Dome, go ahead and enter retirement now.

Lol so true. That guy for BC had ice going through his veins making those 4 free throws. Reminded me of SK at UL.

Honestly that dude just looked like "screw it, not like anyone expects me to make these" and he proceeded to sink them.

Syracuse's lack of depth is going to hurt them in the tournament. They basically play 5 or 6 guys. Yeah they have a nice starting 5 but you need more than that.

Florida-Auburn was tied with 20 seconds with Auburn shooting one free throw. The guy missed it, and an Auburn player thought they were still losing so he intentionally fouled Patric Young. He knocked both down, and Auburn proceeded to turn it over next possession. Brutal way to lose and an absolute gift to Florida.

I think depth is overrated in the tournament, especially for a zone team like Syracuse. They have only had 5 guys foul out all year and I believe they have the lowest fouls per game average in the country. Also, in the tournament you have longer TV timeouts and teams don't often hang on to timeouts in do-or-die games. My concern for Syracuse is the low number of possessions per game combined with the number of 3's their opponents are going to take.

Interesting stats re:Syracuse's tempo. It has been steadily slowing down since 2007.

2007- 29
2008- 27
2009- 34
2010- 55
2011- 177
2012- 209
2013- 252
2014- 345

It doesn't really seem like their style of play has changed that much...

It would be interesting to look at the average tempo per season over the years, because I'm guessing the college game has steadily been slowing down as teams strive to be more efficient. Teams that face Syracuse are rarely going to shoot early in the shot clock (Pitt does it better than anyone). Combine that with a defense that doesn't turn you over and forces deep jump shots and there isn't a lot of opportunities to run, thus 40 minutes of half-court ball. Syracuse is very effective, but the combination of limited possessions and high-volume 3pt shooting would scare the hell out of me as a fan.

Just took a quick glance at the adjusted tempo stats on KenPom. Looks like #1 tempo team hasn't changed that much in terms of possessions (at least not in a decreasing trend). They are all hovering around 75. There were some VMI teams that were around 80 or 90 but the second place team those years was still around 75-76. Would have to take a longer look at it some time to really see.
