Projecting the RPI and NCAA tourney

Get 7 more wins and the RPI will take care of itself. It'll still hurt seeding, but it'll be more than enough to make the field. Finishing with a 12-6 BE record would likely mean 9-10 RPI Top 100 wins and 4-5 Top 50 wins. This team will be an interesting case to see if the selection committee really is putting less emphasis on the RPI and focusing more on who did you beat and who can you beat going forward. A perfect example of the absurdity of the RPI is a 12-6 Colorado St. team that sits at #25. Their best wins came at home against #69 Colorado and #76 Denver.

I agree. The road wins alone will get them in having a winning record in this league. Plus they will get extra credit from wins without suspended players much like injuries. Assuming they take care of business and hopefully get it together at home, I could see a seed in the 6 or 7 range.

live-rpi.com projects my beloved Bearcats at season's end will have an RPI of 81. This high of a RPI number has in the past meant NIT. The team will need a strong finish, I think no less than 12-6 in the Big East and no less than the semi finals of the Big East Tourney to get into the NCAA Tourney. It is looking more and more that the weak OOC SOS is going to come back and bite the Bearcats.

Hmm, I said the same thing and got ripped.

Great post!! People get too caught up sometimes in computer rankings and "projections from experts". At the end of the day there is a selection committee made up of human beings that will decide who's in and who's out and what seed everyone is going to get.
