About Gary Clark everybody was wrong about him starting all year so it wouldn't surprise me if everybody is wrong again and he has developed a face the basket short range game.
I hope so but did you see move he made in scrimmage and got shot blocked? I was hoping to see slimmer more explosive Clark

It is nothing against Clark. I just see Ellis as the guy averaging 13+ ppg this year.

About Tre Scott I think he will see a lot of minutes as the season progresses because we really only have 3 proven rebounders out of the bigs and with injuries, sickness, and God forbid suspensions or transfer we will need his size and motor

Jenifer will be very valuable at the end of games when we have a lead beating the press and making free throws so I think he will play quite a few minutes maybe as the third guard. I don't think his half court defense is going to be good enough for him to be in games where we are down or against the top 3 pt. shooting teams.

Not sure about Jenifer's FTs. Last year in the 21 game Summer, he was just 44-79 (55.7%) from the line. Not sure what he was for his HS team as a SR though. But I think TC, Cobb, and KJ should all be 80%+ this year.

Some other key points that Mick made.....

"We're embracing the assist"

"The freshman are so cerebral...so we play offense more like a veteran team."

"No substitute for quickness, no substitute for quickness."

The Red squad, with Jenifer running the point tied the black squad with Caupain running the point. Mick said, "The only reason the red squad was down for a while was that they missed some open shots. Everyone is very quick to discount the possibility of Jenifer unseating Caupain from the point guard position, but those three quotes above from Mick's own mouth might say differently.

Why is the assumption that Troy can't pass the ball? I remember watching him play early on as a freshman and loving his BBall IQ and his ability to penetrate and dish the basketball. The problem on that team and last year's team (really most of our team's since Mick got here) is that our offense wasn't conducive to a PG who did penetrate the defense and dish the ball. Typically we ran very slow and methodical offensive sets where the goal was to pass the ball 5-6 times to get an open shot. What usually happened was we missed the shot because we didn't have shooters or the play fell apart and everyone stood around wondering what to do next.

I think (I hope) that what we're going to see this year is a team that is much more free wheeling on offense. Mick always wanted to play a 52-50 game because his strategy was to limit the other team's possessions and play great defense. If you've listed to what Mick has said in the offseason I think he's starting to get away from that philosophy. He now realizes that to take the next step you've got to be able to score the ball, the good teams can play good defense too so just relying on scrappy play and defense alone isn't going to move you to the next level.

I guess my question is why are certain people assuming that Troy can't thrive in a new offensive mindset?? The guy can score, he can handle, he plays smart and I think he can drive and pass if he's give the opportunity to play that style of ball in our offense.

I love Troy's game - good shooter- good ball skills- great rebounder-good defender but he does not have true drive and dish skills like Justin Jenifer does. I have played basketball all my life and was never able to develop that ability. I have played against people that have an unreal sense of where people are on the court and it seems like Justin Jenifer has that rare ability. Now defense /shooting/rebounds I don't know.

A little piece of advice. You need to proofread your posts before submitting them. I'm sure I'm not the only one getting a headache from reading your posts. The content of your posts is another headache in itself.

Troy is my favorite player but I have always been a little suspect about his ball skills considering he's a PG. He's not going to break your ankles with a cross over or behind the back etc. He's not going to dribble around the key between his legs until he sees a crease in the D.

He does very well with the method he uses though. He dribbles high and slow and he shields the defender from the ball with his arm extended or backing the defender down ala Magic Johnson. Every once in a while he will do a straight line move to the basket with a quick burst of speed and a shoulder down. Again, he's been very successful with it so far. He's also one of the emotional leaders on the team which is good to have at your PG.

I think his passing is fine...pretty good actually. In fact I think he can make passes that Jenifer will not be able to. But the overall style of play could not be any different between two PG's and I'm interested to see how the flow of the offense changes when each of them are in the game.

SMH, There are some very uninteresting people on this site. Lets get through this season before talking about the next one.

So you have to be uneducated to be a hoops fan? I for one take nothing you say too seriously. I do think Jenifer will be good, would even say very good, but just because you spend your time on youtube watching highlights doesn't mean squat. Most guys have very impressive highlight films. I would suggest that you wait until we play another team before you start calling him Kenny Satterfield, who was a 1 and done. Just some words of advice...just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make them wrong. I know that's a lot to take in and may be a tough concept to understand but hey, why not try.
