Jake also the thing that complicates the Cozart and BP situation is that between them they will be paid around 20 mil next year. Are you going to sit 20 mil of your pay roll to hold try outs. That is the complication. Not moving Cozart at the deadline to the Mariners last year was inexcusable. I'll give them a bit of a pass on BP because they were trying to win when they extended him. With Cozart knee and BP's contract and his skills declining plus the no trade clause he won't waive they are near impossible to move. Maybe at the deadline they will have some value to a team but not if your not playing them. The reds have all kinds of unanswered questions they need to resolve. Until they are able to see Peraza and Herrera in the bigs and playing regularly the answers are on hold. They have got themselves backed into a nice little corner. Look at what they are paying Cozart,Bailey, BP and Mesoraco. The guy they are paying 25 mil to be the face of the franchise has the personality of a chair. Great player but a marketing nightmare. To get on with the rebuild they need to have a bunch of questions answered and it should have started last year.

I have no problem benching Phillips, or at worst have him split time at 2B. It's no secret the Reds don't want him around anymore, and his value isn't going to skyrocket so I'd honestly be willing to cut our losses with him. He has no role in the future, so why start him? If he whines, so what? He should've accepted a trade then. I'm not sure what the Cozart situation was with Seattle. But I don't mind him playing SS and having a 3 guys for 2 spots type of deal with Peraza and Herrera at SS/2B for now.

For Suarez, I just can't get on board with believing he's an everyday player. Especially not at 3B. He does have some pop I guess, but he's still a below average hitter at 3B. If they can move Cozart this year and have Senzel ready, I wouldn't mind Suarez as a Utility INF in the future.

I'm just glad the placeholders types are dying off in this stage of the rebuild. That's why I'm excited for the season. We'll actually have guys who will be around in 5 years.

sitting BP is a option Price and the reds have been unwilling to do. Cozart is making 4.5 mil I think. Not what I'd pay for a utility type. That is where the complications come in. Also when breaking in young guys do you really want a headache around? Suarez is a very nice team controlled player. As a corner infielder like you I would like to see a bit more pop. That could happen this year. If not he is back up at SS and 2nd if either of the kids don't produce. As a 2nd Suarez has a nice bat.

The reds had a trade with the Mariners in place at the deadline last year for a very nice
pitching prospect but ran out of time and couldn't get the deal complete at the deadline.

I really think your missing the boat on Suarez. As a 25 year old that can play up the Middle defense hits 20 dingers with just 2 years experience and is inexpensive and team controlled. He has a bunch of value.

I would not give up on Suarez, he is very young, a year younger than Billy.

I want the Peraza, Herrera duo to start playing together, whether be at Louisville or GABP, they are the future

Watched an MLB Network prospect show. They had Senzel at #9. Cody Reed was #69 (nice). Didn't turn it on early enough to see if we had anyone else in the Top 100.

Patrick getting them run together has not been easy. Injuries to others and Herrera have not let that happen yet unfortunately. I think Peraza will be on the major league team out of spring either as a starting SS or a utility player.

Word is out there that BP to braves is alive and will happen. Saw the article on Cincy.com. It also has some tweets from BP leading one to believe it will happen.

AZ I may be out your way in March. Thinking about taken in a few ST games and enjoying the sunshine.

Being reported on ESPN that the BP to Braves is done and BP passed his physical. Reds get two pitchers and eat some of this years salary.

What's left is for the reds to move cozart. Freeing up the middle infield for the two prospects. Reds need answers and the only way to get them is play the kids.

I don't mind keeping Cozart. It's no guarantee that Herrera and Peraza are ready for 600 AB. I wouldn't mind Cozart, Peraza, and Herrera all playing 2 out of 3 for this season. It just doesn't seem like the SS market is for sellers.

Do the reds see something in these two? If not why not bench him and keep him only saving 1 million.

Herrera and Peraza are both outstanding up the middle prospects. No point in keeping Phillips around. He expects to be an everyday player. He and the Reds are just going in different directions.
