With the ace of the staff, Travis Wood, on the mound tonight, the Reds should win.

You sound like my dad... he's all over Wood's balls. I think he has great potential but I want to see him do it for an entire year first. I am confident about tonight though. The Reds really should take at least 2 of 3 from Arizona.

Agreed. It is way to early to "hook the wagon" to Travis. I will say this however. The boy's presence on the mound is very strong and he is a surgeon when working the strike zone. Puts one in mind of Greg Maddox. Talk to me in August Ralph and I may agree with you.

He doesn't remind me of Greg Maddux. He reminds me of Tom Glavine.

True, Wood and Glavine are both lefties. Travis does not have Glavine's slider however. Would be nice if Wood could learn Glavine's circle change as well. He does throw a cutter which resembles Maddox' "bite" though and his prep work is excellant, much like that of "the professor". Either or, both are great pitchers to be compared to.

Well Wood got shelled tonight and the Reds offense is missing in action for the second day in a row. Really need Bronson to come with it tomorrow and stop the bleeding.

13-2, I did not see that coming. Just one game out of 162.

Bronson the stopper on the hill tonight, go Reds!

Nice observation. I think he will still struggle however. Aaron is a grand individual and I have had many opportunties to talk baseball with the gentleman. There isn't a finer man alive. His fastball has lost movement over the past couple years though, even with his adjustments. I do hope he finds success there, but unless he reinvents himself, he will still struggle outside of SD.

I think he'll struggle, too. If you let batters put enough balls in play against you then they will score runs on you and he puts a lot of balls in play. And I don't mean you have to strike everybody out, but more letting guys get solid wood on the ball and not hitting lazy ground balls or weak pop ups. He doesn't really fool anybody when he's on the mound. Guys see what's coming and get good licks at it, the law of averages won't work in your favor in such scenarios. I was really surprised to see San Diego go after him, there has to be a younger and cheaper guy in their organization that can be as effective if not more effective than him. Maybe they want him for his experience and leadership qualities for the younger arms out there, which is something very vital to a good ballclub.

Good win tonight... the offense struggled all night but took advantage of the bullpen in the 9th to blow it open... need Leake to pitch well tomorrow with the series on the line.

I'm looking for the power to show back up tomorrow. The Reds have only hit 2 home runs the past 5 games.

I'm concerned by the Reds HR power throughout the lineup to be honest.

Husband thinks Votto, Bruce, and Phillips will put up 90 plus this season. He isnt impressed with Gomes and Stubbs potential power numbers though. Thinks both will have down years and we will see the decline of Rolen. The player to watch this season is Francisco in his opinion. I like Chris Heisey.

Phillips has seemed to max out his power potential and looks as though he's going to be good for about 20 a year. Votto is going to hit anywhere from 30-40 a year for the rest of his career, imo. Bruce is the wild card- a lot of people were picking him to have a break out year this season but thus far he's suffered from a lot of the same problems that have plagued him thus far throughout his young career... pitchers throw him very few fastballs right now and even fewer in the zone because he has a strong tendency to chase... I hope he figures things out. Stubbs suffers from a lot of those same issues but I think he has the potential to hit 25-30 HR's a year if he continues to progress. The strength he shows at time is undeniable. Gomes- I think he will end up sliding down to the 6 or 7 hole by the end of the year... or Heisey could end up stealing most of the PT... I like Gomes and I like his passion but I just don't think he's a middle of the order guy for a championship ballclub. I also think Rolen isn't a 4 hitter at this point in his career but Dusty is left without a better option right now. With that said I hate that he feels like he has to split up the two left handers Votto and Bruce... when Bruce is swinging it well he's ten times a better 4 hitter than Rolen. In a perfect world I say Votto 3, Bruce 4 and Rolen 5.

IMO, Francisco has a ways to go. Votto is just simply the best player in the National League, Pujols included in that statement. Rolen can hit .150 this year and I'd still have him in the lineup everyday if only for his defense and leadership...this team's attitude and approach changed almost immediately after he walked in the door.

As for power numbers, they will be there. My concern is that the Reds tread water while Bailey and Cueto get healthy. Worst case though, it looks as if the rest of the NL Central is average at best.

Side Note - Did anyone see how the Cards lost tonight? Just warms my heart!

Last I saw they were up 2-1 late, glad to hear they lost again though. As for Rolen I completely agree about his overall work ethic and defense... he still picks it as well as any other 3rd basemen in the league.

They lost 3-2 and it was quite heart warming!

If Leake returns to his early season 2010 form the Reds will win the Cental easily. The rotation has shaped up quite will, the only h guy that worries me is Volquez.

Who is going to be odd man out when Cueto and Homer return?
