Masset has got to find himself... I suggest putting Ondrusek in the set up role in the 8th until Nick can right the ship. Jordan Smith would be my 7th inning guy.

Dusty needs to think outside the box and forget about the "book".

Dusty is locked into Masset is my set up man, Cordero is my closer, etc.

Fact. What a clown like sport.

Being excited over one win in baseball is meaningless. The long drawn out season makes daily games importance none.

From a guy who every time UC losses a basketball game rants about Mick, etc. One loss in a 31 game regular season is of no impotance.

Dont be a complete clown... o wait you have already passed that.

162 > 31. A BE loss can be very costly. And if you ever bothered reading my posts, its general criticism biased off a performance, aka the point of an online forum.

I live in a real world, where, believe it or not Mick Cronin has made several mistakes. But through it all one thing holds tru, you sir still remain a complete idiot.

The Reds got lucky with the off day today. Brandon needs to get healthy and they need to figure out what's going on with Chapman- led alone Masset. All in all a 3-3 road trip to the west coast is bearable this early in the year. Big home stand coming up where they need to take care of business vs. teams they are clearly better than (including some payback for Arizona) before they go to St. Louis for their first show down with the Cards.

Chapman has inflammation in his elbow.

Based on the weather forecast, they might get a couple more days off to rest. Supposed to be ugly starting this afternoon.

Should the Reds win the NL Central by one game, every win was crucial and deserved to be celebrated.

Good for Masset to pitch the ninth with no pressure. He'll find his stuff soon enough and it's outings like that that will help.

This is concerning but not unexpected. The Reds continue to waste a God given talent by using him in a role his arm is clearly not cut out for. While I have seen reports of his closer grooming, he clearly is best suited as a starter. Once he masters the changeup, get him out of the bullpen. Bronson, Cueto, Wood, Volquez, and Chapman as starters. Leak and Leclure long relief. Trade Bailey. He is a head case.

And Living Legend, I have to say I agree with you on many things brother, but on this one I do not. Baseball is a grand sport in every sense of the word. No other sports creates such enthusiam for such a long season. What other sport can you find stat junkies, steroids, and Hall of Fame drama that even rivals MLB? Gotta love it. Wife and I have held season tickets for going on 40 years. Damn, 40 years. Now I am depressed.

Chapman is best suited as a starter, I agree. However I am fine with them using him in the 'pen this year. Now if they don't make the transition back to starter for him next year, I will be upset. The fact of the matter is he simply doesn't have the command of his pitches to be an effective starter over the course of a season right now. I think the options they are going with in the starting rotation are better than he would be. Obviously some things are going to shake out next season (or this year at the trade dead line). Somebody is going to be gone.

As for Bailey, I strongly disagree. He showed signs of serious, SERIOUS progress last year and I am expecting big things from him this year. He's still only what, 24, 25? I wouldn't give up on Homer just yet.

Leake has the potential to be a solid 3rd or 4th starter but he has to gain better command of his stuff and perfecting another pitch other than his fastball and sinker would help him some. He doesn't have the superior stuff to miss his spots and still get swings and misses from batters. If he misses his spot, more often than not, the opponent is going to hit it- hard. But the kid has good moxie and I think because he's never had overpowering stuff he knows more about "pitching" than most his age.

The Reds need a solid start from Volquez today, starting with the 1st inning, he is the # 1 starter, he has got to get out of his 1st inning slump.

Darn Volquez, 2 batters in first inning 2 home runs, Pirates lead 2-0.

Maybe the Reds can trade him back to the Rangers for Josh Hamilton.

Just curious as to your two opinions, but what is the thought on Chapman being better suited as a starter? I know he came up as a starter and thus we assumed he'd be a starter, but I got to think going out there and throwing 100 pitches that fast will eventually wear his arm out. Most guys that throw that kind of heat break down really early. They say he's got a clean release and doesn't put a lot of strain on his arm, but I've heard the same thing about plenty of guys before they throw their arms out. At this point with all the starters we have I like Chapman in the bullpen. Having a shutdown set-up guy and maybe someday a closer is just as valuable as having a solid starter. If he does have the talent to be a legitimate ace then I say yes use him as a starter, but I'm not so sure he will be that. He has unbelievable heat, but eventually guys will figure that out. He doesn't really have a lot of movement on his pitches that fools people. He only has two pitches. I think giving guys 3 or 4 hacks at him a game could make him less useful. And this is assuming his arm can hold up throwing 100 plus pitches every fifth day. He's young right now, but his durability will start to go down the older he gets. If he does develop another pitch it would have to be a breaking pitch and that's the type of pitches that twist and contort your arm. As hard as he throws if he starts twisting and contorting his arm there's a very, very good chance he's looking at Tommy John surgery fairly soon. Look at Stephen Strasburg. I'm fine with keeping things status quo for now with him.

You think that chain throws off his balance? :D

This is an excellant example of why Eddy has problems throwing strikes. All force, no control. His body is dictating where his ball follows instead of his head and hand. Cueto is guilty of the same flaws. Coaches, youth and professional, need to go back to teaching the basic foot, chin, knee concept. It is obviously being lost on this gentleman. His stuff is great, no doubt, but his form will never allow him to be a consistant strike throwing and his pitch count will always be in the 90s by the end of the 5th.

The answer to your question is rest. Chapman is a pitcher that goes in and trys to throw the ball through the wall each and every pitch. A typical inning for him is roughly 20 pitches. His velocity demands a lot of strain on the elbow and shoulder, meaning he needs more healing time to recup. Throughout is young career he is probably use to a little breather between starts. As a reliever, he is not seeing that (hence the drop in velocity as of late). True, he needs to learn a new pitch or 2, however, he will not be doing that if his arm is in a sling. My advice. Long relief for the month of May while he perfects the change up. June, put him the rotation and send Bailey packing. Bailey has good stuff, but he is an attitude problem and has no intention of molding himself into a team player. I have no use for him.

Side note. I have watched Chapman pitch and his problem isnt in his release. It is in his elbow as he develops into each throw. Watch his elbow in the "backswing" next time and you will see what I mean. Not as drastic as Strasburgs flaw, but similiar to a lesser extent.

When Volquez goes out for his next start somehow Dusty needs to convince him it is the second inning.
