regressing or a slump?

Cashmere just tweeted a picture that someone wrote in the snow on Nippert Field last night "Cashmere, keep shooting! I believe in you!"

Why not go root for somebody else?!

You can't just change who root for. They are really frustrating. And I don't like how they settle for 30 footers every game. But they aren't enjoyable to watch right now. And I hate the way they are playing.

My least favorite team had to be somewhere in the Tony Bobbitt years. I am not counting Mick's first couple of seasons....that's too easy.

Yes, I was giving those teams a pass as well. And no matter how much I dislike this team, I like em more than any other team in the country!

i agree i still am a bearcat fan that will change no matter what and didnt change even in micks early yr. I wouldnt even watch college basketball yesterday. Although i did watch a little of indiana and purdue. Even though purdue got crushed they moved so well on offense and dont have half the talent uc does so i changed it. There isnt a better team defensively than uc. The worst part about it is i know they can b good on offense. Two have the scorers uc does and to be in the first half and me praying they score 15pts is a little sickening. In the first half and first five minutes of the georgetown game we must of had 5 blocks, 8 seals and ten more possessions than them. Jj free throw shooting and everyones at that matter is horrific. U can call which player is going to hit one and who will not hit any. Bank the damn thing for gods sake.

definitely regressing......slumps don't last this long. ever since the xu game, we have not been able to score consistently. our team is what it is....live and die by the 3, play good defense, outrebound everyone, and shoot poorly from free throw line. that is the signature Cronin team and we aren't going to start running an offense overnight so until Cronin figures out how to run and efficient offense that uses his strengths, we will struggle to score 60 on a game to game basis.

Regressing....
This team is the polar opposite of most of Mick's teams. When have we ever, under Cronin's tenure, entered conference play in such good position? We lost to New Mexico, a top 25 team, and also had a few really nice wins. Since then, this team hasn't finished games. The last 5 minutes of the games we lost tell the story-I know this is UC, we win lots of games that aren't pretty, but we WIN them. Execution in end of game situations is critical and can help you win games that you really shouldn't win. We have lost the critical battles towards the end of games. We should be close to reaching our peak right now, but this year, it feels as if we are regressing.

this club reminds me of vaughn's senior team.

we peak in maui early in the year and it was all down hill after. team struggle to score and had no clear leader on the floor.

this year we peak in vegas early in the year and has been down hill since. team struggle to score and has no clear leader on the floor.

That year was such a shame, Deonta deserved better. I will always like him, he was instrumental in helping us rebuild.

the amount of shit that vaughn had to hear or was utter by fans was just stupid.

one of my all time favs. agree with eveything you say.

how long before someone tries to discredit this post by saying he was "our only option and his numbers are high because of this?"

Good call, I agree. Frustrating year then too.

Yeah, some idiot will try to say Adam Hrycaniuk was the key to us rebuilding. Vaughn carried the teams he was on and by the time he left, UC was set on a solid foundation as a program. I doubt he will ever receive the credit he deserves.

Where is Vaughn playing these days? Russia? Brazil?

I used to be excited to watch the Bearcats play....ever since the loss to New Mexico they just haven't been interesting to watch for me. I dvr the games then can't watch em because its too boring. Its a shame, been a fan since the Van Exel days....but losing interest.

I loved Vaughn and argued with many that he was one of the most significant Bearcats in history.

And this is a serious concern. I'm still interested because I'm a diehard but this program was already on life support for fan interest and as soon as they hype starts building up and the fans get interested again, they start playing like crap. And even when they are winning it is a terrible style of basketball. Casual fans don't want to waste their time watching it.

I was thinking the same thing. If I remember right Vaughn's senior year they had like 8 losses by 6 or less points.

When you peak early it is a sign of a veteran team returning some talent. When you see these teams regress late, it is a sign that nobody outside of the vets are improving and making contributions. That is what we are seeing with this team.

I am surprised at the lack of floor leadership. I really thought the locker room and floor leadership would be better this season but it clearly is not. This team needs a leader.

I really agree with your floor leadership comment. The value of a program where you have upperclassmen, as opposed to a series of one and done guys, is that they should be pushing the younger players to be invested as much as they are. It just seems that these guys play without a sense of accountability to each other. If a player misses a defensive assignment, goes through the motions in practice, etc. the team leaders should be all of those guys before Mick has to address it.

The problem with this team is very obvious. They have no post presence that offers any kind of scoring threat. That leaves the scoring up to the 3 guards and makes the team one dimenstional. They play great d and rebound well. FT shooting is down and cost us the GT game. They are in every game but always rely on the outside shot for their scoring. SK can't create, Parker is more of a slasher and Cash is hurting. Alll the talk of leadership and IQ is way off base. They lack a post scorer and have all year. Heck I was at the game Friday night and on one occasion Modj was wide open and all he had to do was turn and lay it in and he didn't even look at the basket. He passed it back outside. Jackson is a turnover waiting to happen and when he does make a good move he is either fouled or misses the shot. He also missed a ton of FT's Friday. Parker our other slasher is shooting FT's at a 10% decrease from last year. Make a few FT's and a lay up or two and we will have great leadership again. Lets not out think ourselves. Having a big body that could contribute offensively would make a huge difference in the teams offense and overall record. right now we will live by the outside shot and die by it. just hope we are hot come NCAA time. Take a look at our shooting percentage from the GT game. To still be in the game shooting that bad is crazy. We actually took the lead at the 5 minute mark and had them in the double bonus with 9 foulds the rest of the way and TO the ball and settled for jump shots instead of driving to the hole and trying to draw a foul.
