I have to give props to Guyn for his play tonight...in my opinion, it was his best overall game as a Bearcat

I gotta give props to Mbodj, JJ, and Gaines. Best I've seen the low post play in a long, long time. Seems like everyone else was a little off tonight.

We had more dunks tonight than we have had in Micks 7 yrs leading up to this game.

Finally some high percentage shots!

im still not happy with the way we finished the game. we had a chance to end it on the play that rubles got intentionally fouled. instead, we go one for two from the line and then wright threw the in bounds pass away. by far, the sloppiest game of the year. they had 20+ turnovers and we were in the high teens. Jackson was a great spark. rubles did a good job of creating some offense when he was in there. parker and wright both played really poorly so I am happy we were able to overcome that. I am still waiting for us to play a full 40 minute game in a meaningful game. we have yet to do that this year. at seton hall should be a great opportunity to do that, but I am expecting us to come out extremely flat considering the 11 am tipoff, but thankfully, the game is on the road.

I said it before, but I truly think the offense stalls when Cash is at the point. He dribbles way too much. He is a great player but Id like to see him play a little more off the ball and utalize his shot off screens

Rust from the layoff was evident. This team does not, or has not, shot as good as I thought they would. If they could shot average on a consistent basis they'd be dangerous.

I'm going to give it up for JJ. Loved the effort and felt he brought the teams energy up.

Thought Gaines gave good minutes. Nothing spectacular but has anyone noticed he's been solid his last 2-3 outings?

Guyn was solid. Really think he could help this team if he penetrated more.

Love the tone Kilpatrick set coming out of the half. He had the look of a guy who wasn't letting his team lose.

17-4 tied for 3rd in league. Like I said if only this team could shoot average consistently.

It might not have been pretty, but some of the bench got some great experience. Kelvin is quicker than we know. He just needs to learn to stay in position defensively. He was fighting the boards even though his numbers don't reflect it. JJ has the best vertical leap on the team. Mbodj finally finished around the basket. No reason our Bigs can't dunk more frequently. We had some really nice feeds for Alley Oops. Everybody is raggin' on Cash and Parker, but just how many points and at what percentage did their opponents score? Yeah, they tossed the ball away a couple of times (Rubles should always be the inbounder if he's in), but there was a little different offensive look out there tonight. I liked the pass to the low/high post and instant return for an open 3 - even if we missed most of them. And that move also gave the Bigs an occasional chance for some points in the paint. Guyn needs to make a few shots to give him some offensive confidence, but he's getting better overall with every minute he plays. Cash is still the best defender, he just got some questionable reach-in calls. But, he does get a lot of steals. Next few games should be wins. Go Cats!

The Cats need to go 3-0 in this 3 game stretch. They're off to a 1-0 start. One at a time but the expectation has to be 7-3 following these games. Would love to see 2-3 of these guys get hot at the same time.

Apparently Cash and Cronin exchanged words on the bench. When Cronin got in his face for his sloppy play and Cash said something back, Cash got up and sat on the end of the bench. Passion baby, passion.

Def need to go 3-0, its very do able. But this team can not continue to go 0-9 in the first 6-8 minutes of their games, those type of droughts will catch up to them. I really wanna see us win these next two games with Pitt coming into town. We could have a great chance at our first four game BE winning streak.

Someone needs to chart how much better they shoot when the ball is kicked out from penetration or kicked out from a big man. It's when they just dribble around the arc and jack up 3's that they don't make them at a high clip. The second half they actually attacked the basket and it completely opened up their offense.

I thought Guyn was pretty bad tonight. His defense was okay and looked terrible running the point. I have a hard time seeing him as the future PG.

Gaines I thought played really well....for Gaines. If Mbodj played his game I'd say he did just average. But since I expect very little out of Gaines I'd say he played a good game. But I tend to expect more from UC and therefore don't get as excited when guys just look like they can manage it on the court.

JJ was very good tonight, probably his best game of the year. Still needs to cut down his stupid turnovers.

It def doesn't take a rocket scientist to see we shoot way better from 3's when our big's touch the ball down low and score a few times. It opens everything up. But don't count on see that on a consistent basis.

I am pretty confident we will win at seton hall, but at providence will be a tough one. they have some talent and if they get hot, it could be a close game. the Georgetown and nd games are going to determine if we get a double bye in the BE tourney or not cause right now I think cuse and Louisville are locks to get top 4 and Marquette is probably going to get it. that leaves us, nd, and Georgetown battling it out, and possibly st johns if they stay hot. either way, its going to be interesting to see how we play down the stretch and into to the BE tourney.

Ugly game, especially the first half. I noticed Mbodj hit double digits for the first time this season, he actually had 8 at half... That means Mbodj kept us in the game in the first (0_o)
Wright didn't look himself, SK got hot and Jackson did big things on both ends.
Let's hope it was just the long ass break and Cash not being himself that made it ugly. As long as we play D, I think we take the next 3 games.

Mick had some interesting comments after the game.

1. Gaines had really good practices during the time off and earned more PT. Mick said that is why he was first off the bench. If you earn PT, you are going to get it. I like that a lot.

2. Jackson got the start because he had his two best practices ever leading up to this game. I think it showed in his play tonight.

3. Mbodj is limited by an ankle injury that he sustained before even coming to the USA. Mick said that it is the same ankle he hurt last year but that he has very little ability to move laterally due to the messed up ankle. He said this results in a lot of the fouls he picks up and while it frustrates Mick at times, he is trying hard but is just physically limited. Sounds like he didn't have access to an orthopedic surgeon when the injury happened several years ago.

4. Mick pretty much hammered Cash in the post game comments and deservedly so. Cash was not good tonight and Mick was especially frustrated with the foul he picked up at the beginning of the second half.

5. Officiating - Mick commented at the grabbing and holding that the officials were allowing in the first 10 minutes of the game. He basically said, good luck scoring or running any kind of offense with all of that going on. Once the refs starting calling that stuff, the offensive flow of the game improved.

6. Free Throws - I believe Mick said UC made 21 free throws and Rutgers only shot 11. Mick said this was the difference in the game and was a big part of their game plan. Rutgers was guarding outside very tightly but Mick felt like UC had the ability to drive and get them in foul trouble and more importantly, get to the line.

Great recap, Jason.

It was ugly. It was a BE win. On to the next one...

JJ's effort was outstanding tonight. The team just feeds off of that level of intensity. It was nice to see Gaines' hard work get rewarded. He's still very raw, but you can see the steady improvement. You never have to question his effort.

I can see this being a watershed moment for Cash. He's still recovering from the injury, but he's been horrible the last two games. I think he's ready to explode and lead this team.

Bottle that 2nd half effort for the remaining home games because it won't be easy!

I am with you Jeff. I have been saying this all year that if all three of the Amigo's were to be "on", then it would take a hell of a team to beat us, maybe none.

However, with that being said, there hasn't been a game yet where all 3 have been lethal. We are tough when two of them are hitting. Imagine the ceiling when all three are money?

Hopefully we will get this coming forward...better yet, the tourney? I'd take it.
