Lol....yeah, I know. That is why I stayed away from opinions and just posted actual facts. If someone wants to start fireworks over Mick's actual results, then they truly are lost.

And with this post, I'm headed back to my self-imposed exile from this site, possibly only returning to celebrate Mick's first ever league championship as a Bearcat. By the way CD, can't wait to see the walk-ons get a little PT as the clock winds down to our victory on Saturday. GO CATS!!!

Kilpatrick moved back to #4 on the Wooden Watch:

4. Sean Kilpatrick (Cincinnati): Cincinnati's own two-way anchor rode a hot-shooting high into Saturday's huge American clash against Louisville ... when he promptly shot 3-of-14 from 3. Ouch, right? Yet Kilpatrick still finished with 28 of his team's 57 points, which is a handy counterintuitive reminder of just how important he is to the Bearcats' composition. Usually, he's much more efficient; usually, Cincinnati wins. But without him, Mick Cronin's team would be lost.

Not really surprised that Russ Smith passed him considering he hit a game winner against us. But I still believe that SK is the front runner for AAC POY

I was surprised. I have a lot of respect for Russ, but he wasn't very good against us (either game really). If you watched that game and not just the final possession, you would know Harrell carried their team (and that was true of the first game as well). Part of that is a match up thing. We defend the perimeter significantly better than we do the post.

But either way, SK played a much better game than Russ. He has done it twice now. I know this an award for an entire season, but SK doesn't come up short in that comparison either. Russ uses slightly more possessions than SK, but shoots slightly less and hasn't been nearly as efficient, mainly because SK has been so good at getting to the free throw line this year. I would also argue SK is a better half court defender, but Russ is awesome in the full court and that provides a lot of value as well, so that may be a wash.

Unfortunately you often don't get an in depth break down for these types of things. It often comes down to name recognition, how good your team is and maybe a few highlights.

If u really think Russ smith is better than kilpatrick then u didn't watch the game. Sorry sk is clearly better

I asked @CoachCroninUC who he would pick for AAC POY (can't pick his own guy) and he went with Russ Smith. Podcast link to come.

I agree with SK as player of the year. Runner-up in my opinion would be Napier then Smith.

Saw this on game game and it really pissed me off, just ignorant and wrong. It's not my opinion it's a fact sk is better than those two

Isn't amazing how one shot completely changes everything? If Russ Smith doesn't make that jumper every ESPN analyst and blogger is writing a piece drooling over SK, and they all probably pick him...

I think you have to figure who means most to their team and with UConn having multiple double figure scorers this could aid SK. Either way I think you couldn't argue the pick

Just based on stats, Napier is a no-brainer - SK has more ppg, but Napier has more assists and a far better assist/TO ratio ('course he plays point), more boards, a better shooting %, a MUCH better 3 pt shooting %, better FT shooting %. SK plays better "D".

As I said in another post, SK might be better offensively if he had more weapons around him, as Napier does. It seems that in games UC has other significant scorers, his shooting % is better. Of course, other players scoring more might be an indication that the defense isn't that great, hence everyone looks better.

Overall, I have to say that if I'm picking teams, I pick Napier - I'm sure the NBA will agree.

I believe even Mick said Napier is a better pro prospect. I wouldn't be upset if Napier wins. I would be if Russ Smith won over SK.

At this point I think Napier wins as well. If it is the most important player award it's SK hands down, but it's not, and I think Napier has had a better season. Voters have short term memories so a lot can happen between now and the end of the season...However, this is one reason I don't like when Mick keeps saying that SK is the conf. player of the year. Hopefully that doesn't/hasn't gotten into SK's head (don't think it has).

I have no problem with him pushing his player. A player that has given him everything. I'd be disappointed if he did anything less.

That wasn't the context, it was matter of fact as if it had already been decided. But I don't want to make a big deal out of it because it isn't a big deal, just something I noticed.

I think whichever teams wins the conference will be POY. If UL and UC tie, it should be SK but I am sure lazy voters would just vote for Russ. I really don't see a way Napier wins the award playing on a team that can't win the league when there are players worthy on each of the teams that can.

Remember Ben Hansborough won the BE POY over Kemba Walker. I think SK or Russ Smith will win based on the team's accomplishments, but if I had a vote I would give it to Napier. He leads them in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and minutes. For a 6' 1'' guard that is impressive.
