Also sometimes you got to lose the battle to win the war. Wasn't that when Peppers banked in the three from the top of the Key?

No, the one I'm talking about was in transition and happened right in front of our bench and next to Mick. SK was slow in closing on Pepper and gave him a good look and he drained it.

I'm 100% fine with SK shooting when he's comfortable with the shot, but I don't see how Guyn is allowed to shoot so many threes. Unless he's unbelievably wide open, there's no reason for it. His goal should not be to get an open three. Two attempts per game is plenty, if not too many. He just flat-out is not a good shooter.

I agree, I've said all along that he is a bad shooter yet he thinks he's Reggie Miller. He has zero business shooting four 3's a game especially when those are contested and early in the shot clock. Guyn at this point needs to realize that the only thing he provides is good defense, so focus on it and stick to doing that well and put the ball in other players hands so they can score.

I remember that one. Wish I was there. You can see so much more in person then on the television. I'm sure MC's scouting report was Peppers shouldn't be left open at the 3 line. I'm sure one thing MC learned from BOb was how to sub for a defensive lapse that the scouting report covered. I can still see Bob running down the bench yelling expletives saying "get him". LOL!!

sanders and shaq percentage does matter because teams draw the defense on sk and jj we need them to kick the ball out to them. i hate watching everyone standing around waiting for mick to call a play for sk and jj instead of just playing, if we want sanders, shaq, and troy to give us something, we have to give them something, time and confidence mick pulled them yesterday so fast but you have GG, rubles at times and JJ just shooting and nobody under the rim to get the rebound, we have to play smart.

Mick would tell you this too, but a wide open shot is not always a good shot, even for SK. When we are not in a position to offensive rebound, it is not a good shot. SK was guilty of this many times over the last 5 or 6 games. Last night you saw SK take shots within the flow of the offense and it really helped him get it going.

I just wish Mick would treat bad shots as turnovers and then maybe he'd yank Guyn for every dumb shot he takes. Obviously he thinks there are bad shots but he never pulls a player for taking a bad shot, only for a turnover or a defensive lapse.

Shoot before you turn it over. Never seen a turnover score points. Watched plenty of bad shots go in. On the whole, shot selection is probably over rated by most fans.

I've seen a bad shot score plenty of points for the other team. Bad shots are the same as a turnover and sometimes worse. Some turnovers are dead balls allowing you to set your defense. Most bad shots allow the opportunity for run outs and fast breaks by the opposition. Shot selection is the key to being efficient on offense.

What? I'd almost rather just throw the ball out of bounds than take a low percentage shot. Bad floor balance caused from a bad shot leads to 4 on 3 or 5 on 4 breaks. I just want UC take good shots, I don't have a problem with a ton of threes...just some of Guyn's shots were horrible. It is interest how much better of a shooter he is when the pass comes from inside the paint back out to him rather than just from a swing pass...

He does...he has said it many times. He couldn't pull Guyn when Johnson is in the locker room looking for his jersey and Caupain is on the bench with 3 fouls. I loved that Mick has yanked Kilpatrick out several times this season for bad shots. Maybe you and I are watching different games.

A moving screen when your team has 7 or more fouls is a turnover that can score. I have seen a lot of those this year from JJ,Titus and Big Dave

You can say this about nearly every player in the country. When a three point shot is taken off of an offensive rebound or a pass from inside back out (whether from the post or dribble drive), the percentages go way up for every team. I would be fine with this team taking 25 threes a game IF they took the vast majority off offensive rebounds or good ball movement.

I agree with our point about moving screens being costly, but a team doesn't go to the line off an offensive rebound. An offensive rebound is treated as a turnover.

We need to redefine what were all calling a bad shot bc 9/10 of the time some announcer says a guy took a bad shot, they really mean he took a questionable shot early on in the shot clock. Their theory is you can always get a better look. Except you don't because the d1 average is 18.5% of trips are turnovers. Imagine how high this number probably is at lower levels where kids travel and can't handle the ball like d1 skilled athletes can.

Its also not really remotely close when guys claim a bad shot=turnover.
1. No matter how bad of a shot it is, there is some % chance it goes in
2. You could get the orebd
3. Compared to live ball turnovers, bad shots result in way fewer transition points.

most fans think a bad shot is one that doesn't go in.

Even more reason to shoot quickly before you turn it over. Turnovers are the number one drain on an offense's ppp efficiency and it's probably the easiest thing to control of the "four factors". It's how a lot of poor shooting and less skilled and talented teams increase PPP.

To me some of the worst are when they throw a 3 up early in the shot clock before even trying to work the ball inside. I would love to see a game where they make it a point that no shot is taken until the ball gets inside at least once a possession. Like everyone is saying the 3's fall more often once the ball gets inside and it makes you much more difficult to defend.

This teams offense is actually pretty efficient when there's ball movement and inside out play. Rubles and Jackson are both excellent passers. Mick Cronin has said it several times, "We have to play inside/out and be willing to make the extra pass." When the team executes that philosophy they look good. I think this is accomplished better when Caupain is in the line up. He had 4-5 assists against Temple and I think all came in the second half after returning from foul trouble.

Amen brother. Amen. It kills me when UC fights against being aggressive and going to the basket and getting fouled. When they do that mixed with the inside outside game, good things always happen. It usually happens for short periods of time and that is when we get in scoring droughts.
