I'm sure they are, but now they're going to have to make this look like some sembelance of a real investigation, which is going to take time. Unneeded time at that.

Why not announce this new early in the week, like on Monday? They were a full week removed from the players starting to hit the portal at that point? Why wait? What could have they possibly gained by waiting this entire week to officially announce they're moving forward with an investigation?

I think they already had moved forward with an investigation. They likely found some cause to fire him and began negotiating with him. Things stalled so UC released this statement. Just a guess as I have no inside information.
