Help Support BearcatTalk:

I was at the game today and it was a great atmosphere. Kudos to bearcat nation showing up at an 11AM tip. You can just see the confidence starting to grow with this bunch, especially on the block. I think we need to find ways to put the ball in Ellis, Deberry, and Clark's hands more. When the offense runs through them we are so much better at getting good shots. As for the KJ debate I was one of the guys defending him coming into the season. I never imagined he would have played so bad this frequently. I saw him many times in high school and he scored at all three levels consistently. He just seems, to me, to have an abysmal approach out there. He is hunting three pointers and has not demonstrated the ability to hit that shot consistently. Use the pump fake and take a mid range jumper. Cut to the basket. Take your man off the dribble and get to the damn foul line. Everything about his game right now is an absolute abortion. Those two turnovers today were some of the worst I have ever seen. He is getting lost on defense. Savino went off on him for losing Nic Moore on a 3 pointer. Unfortunately the cats dont have many options to replace him right now. I like Cobb coming off the bench and it makes sense since he is the backup PG. Dont want him and Caupain getting tired or in foul trouble at the same time. I never want to see Deshaun or KJ handling the ball full time. That is a recipe for disaster. With our struggles on offense you simply cant turn the ball over, we have to have an opportunity to rebound a missed shot. Cant rebound a turnover and KJ and Mormon are turnover machines. It's just so frustrating because I feel like that position is the missing link and both guys are capable of playing so much better. If they can figure it out we could be really scary. Im convinced we are going to win the league. With the league being really down this year I think the toughest team will win it. The bearcats are starting to look like that team yet again.

Was at the game today and it was a great win...going off topic, I have one big concern: Ellis needs to mature fast or he is going to cost this team...he is quick to get snippy when he is fouled down low...I know his past doesn't help his cause, but how many times already this year have refs quickly stepped in to prevent things from escalating...today, after a harder foul heading into a TV timeout, Ellis started following an SMU player...I worry that his actions will result in a technical at some point, and with UC's, it won't comeat the most advantageous time...really hope these coaches can help him continue to mature...quickly!
Go Bearcats!

As much as I was down on Cobb in the beginning of the year the kid is starting to find his touch. If you notice, he just needs a layup or jumper to get that confidence in his shot and when he does man he can be HOTT. KJ to me just seems like he's struggling altogether. I'd like to see him get it together, but at this time I think he's more suited on the bench. I'd really like to see more out of Caupain. We know he can score, but its seems like he'd rather pass instead which is fine, but I'd like to see him attack the rim more and get to the foul line, as we saw today he can obviously make his free throws. Ellis and Clark, you cant say enough about these guys. They are playing hard and to me seem to be the workhorses on our team grabbing rebounds and blocking shots and continuing plays (when Clark grabbed that ball about to go out of bounds and made the pass to Cobb for the 3. . .Wow!!!) That is a hustle play right there. The future looks bright Bearcat fans and right now I'm happy as long as we continue to play tough defense and grind out these tough games.

I think morman and KJ both have basketball IQ problems, when kj tried to take it to the rim and nic moore drew a charge with 19 seconds left in the first half I almost threw my tv. and deshaun morman at times will take it to the rim on fast breaks when he can pass it for an easy bucket.

Both kj and morman need to realize they cant take the ball to the rim in a half court offense at this level. They need to penetrate into the defense and then make a pass to the wing or the block. they both think they can take it to the rim and they just can't they will both be good by the end of there careers here though.

ps. wouldn't be surprised if morman transferred, but I hope he doesn't.

Again, kudos to Larry Davis. He calls a mean game, honestly. They turned a corner from that terrible news really quickly and though the ship wobbled it is sailing straight as ever now.

Can't agree enough with u BCM. This team is playing great defense and we actually run plays for our skilled players AT TIMES. But a win is a win. Let's steal em when we can get them. Go Bearcats!!!

I agree kudos to Larry Davis, but lost in all this is the fact that Mick Cronin is dedicating his time to film and game planning. His statement that his job was now, "to make Larry Davis coach of the year", speaks volumes. I've said it before and I will say it again, there is a positive side to this we all miss and that is Mick Cronin, who in my opinion is one of the best game planning coaches in the nation, is behind the scenes breaking down opponents.

This is in no way intended to take away from what the team and Coach Davis have done. I believe it will also benefit recruiting. It is an overlooked blessing in disguise, in the light of a bad situation.

I agree with the game planning, but I also think LD brings more of a positive influence on the sideline by rarely blowing up on players during the game. I also saw him high five a player going into a time out...I just like the positivity and demeanor.

I think you're spot on on the recruiting as well. When Steve lavin missed a season but recruited he pulled some good players.

Agreed. This team has shown it will play for Davis the same way it plays for cronin. Cronin being able to spend more time on the mental prep side of the game is a good thing in and of itself. Hopefully going forward everyone grows from this and adjustments and fine tuning can be made to how the program is run. Trying something different forces you to see things from a different perspective and try new things. Obviously cronin will be back on sidelines next year assuming his health allows but maybe him being away shows him some different strategies in how they game plan and coach as a unit. And having more time to stalk some 15 and 16 year old phenoms can't be a bad thing for recruiting.

I gotta say I was a little skeptical about DeBerry's FG% from his juco stats last year. Maybe skeptical is too strong, but I wasn't sure how accurately those stats were kept. I think he was around 70% and that seems totally legit. He doesn't need a ton of post movrs bc of his size and he does a great job of being aggressive right from the catch.

He is impressive around the rim, although doesn't rebound all that well. The issue with being aggressive at the catch is that our guards don't feed the post well. Often times the bigs are fed too far out of the paint to do anything. I do love when DeBerry gets a head of steam toward the rim. His hook shot is also virtually unstoppable.

Yes, same thoughts. My only concern is a pretty unique concern to have, is that if we finally get firing on all cylinders and Mick does as he promises the press and makes Davis coach of the year, that along with all that national exposure and accolades, we're going to need a new assistant head coach. More power to the man if so, but unfortunately it a common side effect with success. You don't know what you had until it's missing is all.

Waterhead, was this our first game shooting in the 30s% on 3s?

Morehead State: 9-22, 41%
NC Central: 7-19, 37%
Middle Tennessee State: 7-15, 47%
Stony Brook: 7-11, 64%
San Diego State: 4-11, 36%
Southern Methodist: 6-19, 32%

Clown question bro.

No. He was bringing up a stat a week or 2 ago about how we shot way above or below our season average each game. I couldn't remember what the stat was though. That's why I specifically asked waterhead. Thanks for those #s though.

That's just sports my friend.

Actually it was either 20% or below or 36.4% or above. The last two games both fell between. Our poor shooting still baffles me but hopefully we are getting more consistent in that we don't have those sub 20% nights:)

Things are starting to take form. The 3 pt shooting pretty much is on Cobb at this point I think. He's the only guy I could tolerate volume shooting 3s. It was good to see him shoot 9 from deep Saturday. Out of 9 attempts he would make at least 3 most of the time I think. His personal 9-0 changed the entire game. I feel confident saying that we'll be above 30% from 3 as a team in the games he scores in double figures.
