South Florida was #280 in KenPom and is now 3-14 and our coach thinks it's beautiful that they had a clean look to tie the game. If we played a team in the top 75% of D-1, we would've got killed today.

You dont think UC would have gotten up for better competition?

I mean you just finish a road game on thursday. and on Sunday your playing another road game that has just 3 wins.

What good team has UC not came out and competed neck and neck with?

Add in that, What Cronin was proud of, was winning with there Defense. Basically showed the team, hey we can win when we dont score for 10 f'n minutes bc we played defense. I mean that was the formula last year. Add in that we held them to 4 offensive rebounds when they average like 12 a game

Alot of fair weather fans showing up after a win today in these forums. every one who is calling for Cronin's head and saying everyone on the team sucks minus 2 players should just not join in the conversation when UC goes on a big run this season (it will happen). This season is far from over and far from being a good tournament run and yet everyone is acting like we just lost.

Xavier was 11-6 last year at this time with losses to UTEP, Long Beach state, Auburn, Depaul, butler and Villanova.

And they peaked at the right time and went to the sweet 16.. UC last year this time was also 12-5.

last year none of the teams UC lost to were ranked.
Only 1 team of the 6 Xavier loses were from top 25 teams.

that all said, we have 5 loses this year and 4 of them are top 20 loses. and 1 of them was top 100 in RPI and kenpom.

We are scoring more ppg, giving up just about the same amount of PPG and ultimately will figure it out. Everyone is acting like the world is over and just a little perspective shows its not even close

Also, only one team has blown USF out at home. The houston USF game was much like the UC game, USF only lost by 6 even though it had 20 TO. SMU only won by 14 @ home against USF. Thing is USF is better than their record. Lets just beat Houston and we will be fine

I agree with most of what you said...but we don't have the luxury of not getting up for games any more. We don't have enough quality wins ahead of us. Every game matters if we want to make the dance and/or a better seed.

We can't come out flat...anywhere

And you are the one claiming others have a narrative.

If we beat one or two of Butler, Iowa State, and SMU I'd be okay. The problem is this conference is almost all landmines and we cannot afford to lose anyone not named UConn and SMU. Maybe road games at Houston and Tulsa and Temple would be okay (as in non season ruining) losses. That means 10 games are un-losable if we want to make the NCAA's.

I respect your enthusiasm and your optimism. But at this point we are predicted to not make the tournament. Last year was last year. Our city rival has went to many sweet sixteens recently. Talk about them is a waste. They have now surpassed us. I hate that team. UCAlum08 and I used to hate on them together on Bearcatnews. We did not have very much intensity today at all and need too improve a lot

Huh??

Who has us out of the tournament? Joe Linardi had us a 7 seed at the begining of the week. A 2 point loss @ SMU who is undefeated and top 15 isn't pushing us out.

And my point was nothing to do comparing us to Xavier in terms of program status. So you completely missed by point. My point was... last year they started way worse than we did and finished strong.

Were not in Bad shape.

Nice post, thanks for digging up some facts. It is nice to be able to compare a bit. I just hope this UC team can go on a nice winning streak. I'm not sure they have it in them just because every game its been reoccurring issues. It's tough as fan to take it game by game lol.

I agree not to overreact but I'm wondering where you would put the over under on us making the tourney provided we don't win our own tourney. Regular season losses.

2 losses? 3? I really don't know what the number is...but we have to be pretty good from here on out. Today didn’t inspire me but we are allowed to suck sometimes as long as we play with passion and pride I don't care.

Today was not passion...that was my only problem. We can't always shoot 50%.

I heard we were last 4 out a week ago. Maybe I'm wrong about that. But our RPI is not good. Even Mick Said every game is must win.
I was just commiserating about eggzavier. I beg to differ about our team. We are in bad shape for those of us that felt we had a shot at E-8. At least our O has improved so we could put 2 games together in tourney if we make it, but their play does not leave me confident. I would say outside of a collapse or a big turnaround, and based on history that are coach usually gets us playing better and gets us in the tournament the most likely scenario is win one at max in the tourney this year. Hopefully we can win two. But would anyone be surprised if we lost in the first round the way we're playing now?

I wasn't happy with Mick's comments at all. However with all things considered it was a noon road game on a Sunday against an awful team after an emotional game that they gave away in the last few minutes. They left Dallas and arrived back in Cincinnati early Friday morning only to again depart for Tampa on Saturday afternoon. I think we all expected them to come out sluggish and hopefully put the game away late.

That doesn't excuse several strategic mistakes that I believe Mick particularly in the last 13-15 minutes.

This team is most likely going to make the tournament. If you put the floor for making the tournament at a 22-9 (12-6) record heading into the AAC Tournament. The odds of that occurring are approximately 77% at the moment. That doesn't even factor in winning the conference tournament.

Jerry Palm has us as the first team out. He also has been one of the worst bracket forecasters of people doing this for the last 10 years in picking the correct teams and seeds. I believe he had on the bubble in 2011-12 and we ended up as a 6 seed. He relying too much on the RPI while the selection committee has shown in recent years they are trending away from that and more to qualitative metrics like KenPom, Sagarin, etc.

I was wondering if they went straight to USF from SMU. I can't believe they went back to Cincy first. Just seems for logistics it would make sense to go straight to Florida. Is there a rule which prohibited that?

Outside of the Tulsa game, we haven't looked NCAA-worthy for quite a while. 5-5 in the last 10, including a home loss to a .500 team doesn't even scream NIT, much less NCAA. I'm sure there was a reason I posted that we have Final 4 potential back in November, but I'm having trouble remembering. I didn't think the coach was going to re-seek the "make your eyeballs bleed" offense once again. He loves the identity that we have. Today made him so happy. 54 points against a 3-14 team. We're right where we want to be again, ready to charge forward to another 1st or 2nd round defeat. And then, we'll start the process all over again.

Mick said they've never won when not returning home first on a 2 game road trip.

Yes this is the reason I'm so upset with today's game. We scored 54 bc we went straight halfcourt against a turnover-prone team full of big guys. Gotta question the strategy there. This game for me was exactly like the Tulane and East Carolina games last year. We were inches away from blowing a 14 point second half lead and going to OT with one of the worst teams we will play this year. Incredibly discouraging to know we have this kind of game in us. And that fact that coach was loving it worries me that this is the Bearcat team we'll see away from home the rest of the year.

Here is an interesting thought on Mick's recent comments about his revelations about not caring what our record is and that it's the players that need to care.

So why does he get so furious in games when mistakes are made? Why does he dictate so much where everyone needs to be? Why not just let them play if it's up to them? I understand what "coach speak" is but it should at least be consistent with your words to the media.

I don't believe he doesn't care about our record for one second. He doesn't show it on the sidelines.
