He's struggled shooting the ball, there is no doubt. Mostly because he's struggled from 3 and shot too many 3's. Inside the arc he's actually shooting a career high %. His ORtg is at a career high, a big boost from last year, mainly because his turnovers are way down.

Bad shooting years happen. SK shot under 40% for the year as a jr and only 30% from 3.

Caupain's 115.2 ORtg right now is higher than SK's Fr, SO, and Jr seasons.

So while some bad plays are fresh in our minds, and some pivotal plays haven't gone out way, we can't let that cloud the entire picture.

I agree. We know he's not going to sit for missing shots...that's not going to happen. He might sit if his attitude isn't in the right place but I doubt that's the case either. He's a good player in a shooting funk for some reason.

If he's struggling at the end of the game...the coach needs to make the adjustments. Run a play for Cobb or Evans maybe.

The only thing I might do with Troy is try to top him out at 32.5 minutes to keep him fresh. 37 is too many. Give Jenifer a little more rope. 5 minutes first half and 2.5 second half. Tell Jenifer I am going to trust you with the ball so take good care of it.

I don't think we need major adjustments...just some tweaking. Not sure what to do at center right now. Ellis is a much bigger concern for me than Troy.

Ellis is the huge concern here. He is supposed to be our best player. He's the one we were supposed to ride this year and he's yet to show the player he should be. He just doesn't seem to get into the flow of the game.

I hope something clicks in his head. It's honestly sad watching his sr year go like this. We all thought he'd make big strides this year and Cobb is the only one of our JUCO's that has made the jr to sr jump.

DeBerry isn't really pushing him either. Both have struggled. If this team turns it around, it's gonna be because Ellis shows up to play every game.

I still think Caupain is very good. I actually think he can be 1st team All-AAC this year. So keep that in mind when I'm being critical. And I'm just talking about having him come off the bench for 1 game to send a message. He isn't above the rest of the team. If he can come off the bench, that'd be a huge eye opener for the rest of the guys. I just feel like we fans don't treat every player the same, and even the coaches send mixed messages. We hear about how well Moore has been doing in practice and he hustles his ass off in games, but he's the last off the bench and only used when we have serious foul trouble. Coach says Jenifer had his best game ever, then he doesn't get off the bench for 1 second the next game. Fans want Ellis benched, when really foul trouble has been the main thing holding him back (he did it to himself by getting T'd up vs Tulsa). But DeBerry has actually been less productive, and even more foul prone. So who is rewarded and who is being held accountable? And why?

We're 4-5 in our last 9 games. In that span, Caupain is averaging 34.4 minutes per game. Jenifer is under 7. Coincidence? Maybe. But I don't see how having an additional ball handler to take the load off an important player can ever be a bad thing. Obviously the coach disagrees...but the W-L record doesn't.
Jacob no one should be benched for last game. They played very well and very tough for 37 minutes against a ranked team at their house and if you ask any of them the will tell you they should have come home victorious. They have played very hard last two games. Benching people is not what is needed. Hit a few more shots, keep hitting the glass and we will win some games. If you were going to bench folls after the Temple game would have been the time. I bet a few players were throwing up after those practices.

Yeah that's not a reason to bench him or any other player. Doing stuff like that is how you completely lose a team.

You bench guys for not working hard. You bench guys when their backups are better and playing better. You don't take starting jobs away because a hand full of plays aren't executed in a couple of games.

You claim players should have more freedom and have to worry less about messing up, but yet you want to do this? That doesn't make sense.

Just to represent the flip side of the point about "losing the team"... What about the bench guys? Why are they treated as 2nd class citizens? We hear reports of how well a few of them practice, and we see the effort for ourselves in games. So why doesn't that carry any weight? I'm not worried about "losing" our veterans at all, but I am a bit concerned that a few guys, for some reason, aren't allowed to be part of the team success. Despite the fact that they are doing the right things, and the guys in front of them are failing to get the job done at this point, for whatever reason.

Agree.

Evans is the only bench player that has a right to claim a starting spot. They aren't treated like 2nd class citizens. They are treated like bench players that aren't as good as the starters, because that's what they are.

Outside of Evans, can you honestly say any of the other bench guys give us a better chance to win? Can you honestly say any of them have done anything on the court to have earned a starting spot over the players that currently start?

That's where I'm coming from. If we had a really good PG that was out playing Caupain on the court, you better believe I'd be willing to talk about making a move then.

I'm not talking about permanently moving guys around with a depth chart overhaul. Just wish everyone had a role, especially when the main guys aren't getting it done. I guess I just don't think there is a big disparity in talent on our roster from top to bottom...which is why I prefer utilizing our depth more.

I'm only talking about taking starting positions away.

I agree and have agreed all year Jenifer should play more. I think Nic Moore is the reason he didn't play vs SMU (I mean it's the only conclusion I can come to that makes any sense at all). The last game Jenifer played he played well. The games before that, probably not so much. Freshman are gonna be freshman.

Yeah I may be over thinking it. Losing tends to complicate things.

Why wouldn't you play jenifer on Moore? He tore #10 ass up. He'll NEVER be starter on sweet 16 team. Talent isn't their. Cobb is our team best SGx jenifer the best PG. EVERY ranked team PG stepped up and swallowed our choke artist down stretch. Bigs can't even get clean decent entry pass from our PG. Out of our starting 5 PG has been the biggest disappointment

And you are the one claiming others have a narrative.

Name one PG ability #10 has over jenifer

id say three point shooting, mid range shooting, pull up shooting, free throws, rebounding, and defense (his height makes him hard to shoot over for opposing point guards. Now i like jennifer but lets not act like troy is scrub. I still will argue troy is hands down our best player

People that still suggest JJ is our savior and would change the course of our season are laughable. He does need more minutes, our coaches need to be smart about his minutes. Put the kid in situations to succeed, we have the lead put him in and play him with the starters for 2-3 minutes. Give Troy a blow before some media timeouts and play JJ. I don't blame JJ for wanting to do too much because he is getting limited minutes, and he want's to WOW. However I think that's the opposite of what he needs to do, control the tempo, run the offense, set people up, get in the lane. I think our coaches have done a poor job with his development and putting him in positions to play well, but I in no way think he should play more than 10-12 minutes, and he most definitely shouldn't start.

I agree with most of this. The "laughable" part about him being a "savior" is a total straw man argument though.

Hands down? Dang, no love for Cobb and Clark?
