Predicting what a team will be in June is a crap shoot. St. John's could be better. Both teams could be battling for the 12 seed in the conference tourney. Who knows?
I do take issue with the "Lavin is a better coach than Mick" comment though. Mick took a program that had been decimated and essentially missed 2 seasons of recruiting and within 5 years has rebuilt without the benefit of top flight recruits. He's solidified the foundation of the program with 4 year guys that he develops. The job he did last year was nothing short of phenomenal.
Lavin? He is an outstanding recruiter, no doubt. And I'm not questioning the resume' of his coaching staff at all. But I'm old enough to remember his UCLA teams underachieving year in and out - criminy, it took him 2 overtimes to beat one of the least talented (yet most overachieving) UC teams in the Huggins era, and he had 3 first round NBA draft picks at his disposal.
A great coach? That encompasses a lot more than recruiting. The jury is out on Lavin.
