I have read many debates on who it will be this upcoming season, so I thought I would put my 2 cents in. A lot of you are saying Troy Caupain or Ge'Lawn Guyn, but no one is talking about Jeremiah Davis III.

Just looking at his bio he averaged 8 minutes as a frosh, scored in double digits in 3 games and made at least three 3 pointers in two games. I liked his speed, passing and vision on the court in what little minutes he had to work with. I think he will be a big contributer this year because he had a pretty good freshman year and had all last year to learn as well. He is coming into his third year on the team and should be a big factor. I personally think Ge'Lawn will get the start based off minutes he played last year and his good D. Thoughts?

JD3 will be rusty early on and hopefully be a solid contributor for conference play. Guyn will start off as PG, but I think Caupain's offensive ability and long arms make him a nice fit for this team. Guyn will hopefully develop into a solid bench player and continue to be a defensive stopgap. I think KJ is more of a SG and if he was to play PG, redshirting would be the smartest thing to do.

I like JDIII's game. He plays with good pace, has good vision and a nice set shot. Huge wildcard for next year.

I agree. The thing I like most about him is he looks to score. While that can be good or bad based on your ability to score, I like it because everyone on this team minus SK last year and maybe Rubles didn't really look to score. I think he could've helped last year in that regard. With all the new talent, I'm hoping that's not a problem anymore. I like playing tough D and emphasizing playing tough D, but at the end of the day you win by scoring more points than your opponent. It's hard to just hope and hope for stops all the time. At some point focus on scoring points.

I don't know about Davis at the point. I think if push came to shove he could play it. Where he was most effective was off the ball and spotting up as a shooter whenever he played with the regular offense. When he played in garbage time he ran the point and looked good, but at that point what competition was he really getting? I think it's Guyn job to lose and Caupain's to win. I think if Guyn's in there we'll see a similar offense to last year. If we were to ever see an uptempo offense (big IF) I think who plays point and who plays the two can be kind of skewed as whoever has the ball brings it up, including your three and even the four and you're not really setting up an offense you're reacting to where guys are on the floor and push to get your best immediate look. I think in Mick's mind that is what he envisions on the offensive end, which is why we have so many athletic hybrid players like Rubles and Lawrence playing the four. But when reality sets in he worries about "things you can control" and that to him is defense, defense, defense. How many times did he say this and blame a loss on giving up three back-door cuts, but wasn't too worried about only scoring 50.

JD3 will play the 2 imo as well. He will be much more comfortable there where he played till his junior year in HS I believe.

You are probably right but I am not sure how comfortable I would be with about 5 available minutes per game. Even if SK only plays 30 minutes Davis has competition (lots) for those other 10 minutes.

If Davis is off the court 30+ minutes per game we are going to have a great season IMO...as long as we have a serviceable 5.

I really like the potential of Davis...but we just signed some talented guys. It's time to put up or shut up...better work hard or you will find yourself at the end of the bench.
