I'm new here and not sure where to post this, but Im a graduate of the University and a current UCATS Member, and I am tired of hearing all the criticism about Mick Cronin. He is doing a great job with what he has. I think we should give him at least 2 more years before we can judge him. That way he will have one full recruiting class come through and the others will be sophmores and juniors.

I fully support Mick 100% I am a life long fan (26 years old) and have attended more games under his tenture then the previous coach (who I also respect) and became a UCATS member during the 2005-2006 season.

The recruiting has gotten better every year under Cronin. He will definately coach next year and I will give him a 90% chance of coaching the year after.

I need to see improvement next year. Currently, UC hardly looks (consistently) like a BE team. Can't see how Mick would disagree with that. I'll support Mick, but he needs to Represent the C!

I think saying he is doing a great job is a bit much. I wouldn't even say he's doing a good job. I would say Mick is doing an adequate job as UC's coach. Should this team be in the tournament??? IMO yes. Coming into the year did I think they were a lock??? IMO no. This team demonstrates that it has the talent to play with anyone and for them to be on the outside looking in, as of right now, is disappointing. So I cannot say that he is doing a great job.

I do think that Mick should get another year. It is sink or swim time for Mick next year. He needs to make a NCAA tournament appearence in his 5th year. We dont give presidents 5 years to make a "change" but I dont think Mick's first year should count against him.

Another little nugget to think about is if Mick doesn't take us to the tournament next year, but has a top 5 class signed. At this time we have high interest from a lot of good recruits. Not sure we could pull the plug on him if he's bringing in a top class. In summary Mick deserves one more year and if he pulls the top UC recruiting class of all time...he should get another year.

I agree with everything you said.......believe it or not.

Those who want Mick out after this season suffer from shortsighted vision, IMO.

The possible payoff from allowing Mick an additional year (or two) far outweigh the guaranteed downfall the program will experience once again if Mick is let go after this season (or possibly next). My reasoning for this downfall is that we don't have the financial resources to attract a big-time coach that will bring high level recruits with him (Huggins to K-State, Calipari to UK, etc). We'll have to settle for a mid-major coach that has been recruiting mid-major type players, unless we hit a Thad Matta or something along those lines.

no doubt about it

I am still backing Mick for a few reasons. One, it would destroy this program if he were to leave now. Two, he has all the piece's, and will get some even better one's next year, he just has to figure out the puzzle. It would also help if his players helped with the puzzle as well, but it seems like almost no one is consistent on this team game after game. In turn I think that is why we have all the lineup shuffles and different starters throughout the year.

No doubt.

I agree with your assessment that we have pieces to the puzzle and will add some nice pieces next season (Killa, JJ and KG.....yes, nicknames are awesome), but it is Mick's responsibility to figure it out.........faster!

I HATE to lose. However, I can accept losing if I see some fluidity on the offensive end. At times we look like we're running an organized offense, but most of the time our guys look clueless.

Why? The eyeball test is not good. Talent aside.

Some of you have seen me post else where on this subject but I'll give my thoughts here as well. I have been an avid Mick supporter and was estactic over the hiring. In my opinion he has done a very good job, under extreme circumstances, of rebuilding the foundation of this basketball program. The image of the institution has improved. The talent level of the players has improved with each class. Nobody was going to come to U.C. under the circumstances, replacing a local legend and the devastation left by the admin on a mission, so Mick deserves respect and credit for doing so. He has almost been in a no win situation, because it was obvious it was going to take time to win.

Having said that, I am one who does believe it is time to make a change. Mick Cronin has not shown the intangibles it takes to raise a team above it's talent level. The offensive flow is horrific, effort is inconsistent, and there have been no locker room leaders developed that carry his vision to the floor. I get the argument that theorectically it would set the program back. I disagree. There will be a better crop of coaches apply for this position because of what Mick Cronin has done. After next season there will be 5 scholly's open and a new coach would have a year to recruit. Hire the right guy and the players will stay. It is imperative for this program to make the NCAA tournament by next season to be competitive recruiting into the future. We have witnessed another end of season collapse that has this team on the outside looking in and Mick's road record is terrible.

As a program guy I will support whoever is coach and cheer the Cats with all I have. My feeling is Mick has done all he is capable of doing and it's time to hire a master carpenter to build on the foundation Mick has laid. In my opinion he is not the guy to take this program to the next level. In spite of all the good he has done it is time for him to leave, and for the program to move on.

Well said. I respect your opinion and would not have a problem if the administration moved in your direction.

I feel that a team leader needs to emerge. For whatever reason that has not happened yet. I can not blame mick for that.

I am not 100 percent behind Mick once the season ends but until then he has every chance to keep me on board.

Mick has tried more combinations than the Reds did last year. I would have thought that this would have been handled by now. Normally the rotation is handled far before the season is about complete. I'm certain Mick himself isn't baffled by the performance of his team.
I wouldn't blame the admin for keeping him or letting him go. I just wonder how much better this team could play with another coach? Frankly, I think the best players are immature.
