Defense is down to 61 on kenpom. Just pathetic. Offense at 29. Wtf is going on.
There isn't a defense this team could play with the effort they give. They've been out worked all season long. They did man and zone today, but when you stand around and do nothing, what does it matter.
Agreed. Hard to watch. Mick gave this year to the players...disappointing how they've responded thus far.
This is completely on the players. The system hasn't changed, the coaching hasn't changed, the players haven't changed. The effort and desire just isn't there. There is just no reason to be worse than last year.
There is plenty to talk about with Mick, but the players themselves have to have enough pride as players to show up every day and work. That clearly isn't happening.
It's extremely disappointing. Anybody that's coached knows you can't force the players to give effort. It will drive you completely insane, but you can't do anything about it. If they don't want it, you can't make them want it.
And the sad thing is it isn't a couple players, it's the entire roster.
Thats def how I feel. I would seriously consider benching players long-term if we had options to rectify that. There's some players right now who don't deserve to play for UC. I'd lose another game to prove that point to these pre Madonna players.
Everyone's pissed and I get that. Take a deep breath. We've had "cross road" moments basically every year under Mick. The first tournament team lost to St. Johns at home, the Sweet 16 team had the Xavier debacle, SK's senior year we had another Xavier debacle, last year we had the Tulane home loss. The track record for bouncing back has been very good. Think about that before you jump off the cliff. The offense has been excellent (#29 in KenPom), the defense will come around...it almost has to at this point. I'll take a strong finish to the season versus a strong start. All hope is not lost...yet.

Evans should never think twice about shooting. I'm not going to be as hard on him as the guys who have been here longest, but he cannot pass up shots. I know that's the least of our concerns as of now, but it just speaks to the overall passive attitude.
The few bad games he's had you can tell it gets in his head. When he's struggling he's reluctant to shoot. Today might have been his worst game, he struggled on both ends.

Lots of talk after Kentucky last year, lots of offseason work put in...time for these players to do some soul searching and decide if they really meant it this offseason...bc it's a lot easier to mean business then.
