There was an article in the Enquirer about UC's football and early spring workouts, and the headline says it all. Tuberville said "We're somewhat close to being a decent football team."

This is awesome, imo. Its finally refreshing to hear some truth from our football coach and not hear about everything is rainbows and bonding time. Tuberville says how it is and I think he brings a high level of quality with higher expectations to detail than what our previous coaches did. With quotes like these, its hard not to get excited for the Coach T era.

”It was a good week of practice, not great. I thought today’s concentration was a little bit lacking, but that usually happens on a Monday with everybody. Not just football players.”

“Our offensive line made a ton of mistakes, but we’re probably running four or five times more protections than they’ve ever run in their life.”

”Defensively it was a good day, not a great day. I thought the first group stopped the run pretty well. That’s my main concern in the spring, playing good run technique.”

” The linbebackers are getting better. (Florida State transfer) Jeff Luc is showing up well. (Greg) Blair is a little bit overweight, he knows that, to play this defense which asks you to run a lot. He got tired a little bit early, but when he was able to think and concentrate I thought he played well.”

I'm excited to see what he will bring to the table and for the season to start. Start right off with Purdue at home and close with Louisville at home. We have a chance to have a really good year.

I really prefer Tuberville's demeanor over Jones. He doesn't celebrate and chest bump for a good practice he expects it from his players. March Madness has most of my attention but I'm really excited about the possibilities for the footbal team.

I wonder why Poteat left, Tommy T should've convinced him that this year, he'd be the starter. He was our best recruit of the past 2-3 years.

Spot on, I feel the same way.

i can understand that but i have never heard of another coach that has so many 'rumors' or issues attached to their name as tuberville...lets hope the saying "where there is smoke, there is fire" does not come to fruition with him...

It dangerous to let the media and rumors formulate your opinion about people.

No offense, but that kind of sounds like a homer excuse to me. I was excited as anybody about the hire, but there are way too many red flags. Yes, some of them may turn out to be overblown or not even true, but the "smoke" cannot be good for recruiting or our program's image. Let's compile some "incidents" that have happened either since his hiring or not long before:

-The headset incident
-His wife's car accident
-The dine-and-ditch claims
-Multiple commits saying they heard nothing from Tuberville about their status
-The Massillon coach's comments
-The investment lawsuit

Tommy Tuberville could end up being the best thing that ever happened for the football program. But let's not just sweep these "rumors" under the rug and pretend there's not something fishy about this man's history. That kind of homer attitude and lack of accountability leads to the kinds of things that happened at Penn State.

And, cincycpaw, please understand that I in no way would think that you or anyone else in this fan base would sweep something like what happened at Penn State under the rug. In fact, I agree with what you are saying about not letting rumors form your opinion of a person. I just think there are way too many of them for me to feel comfortable with the man as the face of our football program.

Headset - happened. No excuse.
Car accident - don't know anything about it
Dine and ditch - disputed, and pretty ridiculous
Commits - disputed, depends on who you believe
Massillon coach - really with most of these, people get their feelings hurt when coaching staff changes and what they want in players changes. In the long run better for everyone to split rather than spend time on the bench your career. Sucks but it is what it is and not unique to TT.
