UC vs Oregon

Ill go one better...

Attendance at football games is worthless... UC is basketball school. The school should focus on what we are. We have never been nor will ever be a football school.

All the funding should be dumped into the shoe rennovations and other basketball marketing opportunities.

This is just flat out wrong. Why do you think Georgetown has been left out and not been nabbed. If basketball was the driver, they'd be one of the hottest commodities. Sure, we can be known for hoops first but having a meaningful football program is imperative for the success of all of our athletics, and to an extent, the university.

Duke disagrees.

It takes money to be elite at football, if we land in the right place, there's no reason to think we couldn't become a high level player in football. The problem is, Nippert is ancient. Better facilities, a coach who can not only recruit but win and we make progress. It won't be instant but certainly UC has made strides from where they were. As for Duke, those things go hand in hand. The ACC contract they have, gives them a large budget. Without football, that doesn't exist. We could be an elite volleyball program too, doesn't mean it's a smart way to run an institution. Turning your back on potentially tens of millions of dollars, you otherwise wouldn't have, all because the little tug boat of the money sports(basketball) needs help is clinically retarded.

Every Bearcat fan I know does not like the Shoe. Seating in the upper third is Brutal. So unless your willing to drop the big bucks for a UCats membership you are left with bench seats. Go to a UD game and experience that facility. I go to the games just for the experience, I don't even like UD. Our program has more history and a bigger fan base, yet we have sub-par facilities.

I agree. We're the best local program yet UD, Xavier and others have far superior arenas than we do. It's embarrassing and was shortsighted by those in charge in UC. But with all that's happened in the last 10 years in poor decision making by UC officials, it's no wonder we're stuck with the Shoe.

Correct

If we are being real....

UC basketball has the ability to become an elite program... They have been before.

UC football simply does not.

TLL basketball is meaningless to conference realignment, it is about TV market size for football. Basketball gets no significant TV dollars, basketball on TV is a dime a dozen, it is on every night of week, there are 350 Division 1 basketball teams, the TV ratings for college basketball are poor. Duke vs North Carolina in basketball does only about a 2.0 rating on TV at best. The A-10's new TV deal is getting each school a paltry $350,000 a year for the next 8 years. Duke is going to get $17 million a year from TV because 1) they have a football team 2) they play in the ACC. One of the ACC Presidents stated the contract with ESPN is 85% for football and 15% for basketball. $17 mill x 85% = $14,450,000 for Duke Football and $2,550,000 for Duke Basketball.

Not one of the Big 5 Conferences has a basketball only school because they are worthless to the TV contract. College sports is about football, football, and more football.

I have been to the UD Arena. It is 2 wings. You are farther away from the court in the upper sections of the UD Arena than the upper sections of 5/3rd Arena. How is that better?

Have you been to or seen Chrysler Arena at Michigan, Mackie Arena at Purdue, Williams Arena at Minnesota, or Allen Fieldhouse at Kansas? All seats are bench seats yet they constantly sell out.

There is no money to build a new arena at UC anytime in the foreseeable future. Ain't happening.

Ralph been to UD and would much rather see a game there then the Shoe. I think your right about the available dollars for improvements but it still doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see a better arena down in Clifton. I'm a big fan of the program but i must say there are nights when I would rather sit at home and watch. Especially weak non conferences games.

I still go to watch the games against cupcakes to support Mick Cronin. He truly is a master at what he does. We are very lucky to have him and if we don't start showing him unified love, he may explore other hc options. Many many schools want him. He is a future hall of famer

Unless he gets some fabulous offer, he is a Bearcat for life. If we get out of the BE, there is no reason for him to leave!

VBearcatMick, Ii love your loyalty but I ain't quite as young as I used to be. I had my doubts about MC after Huggs left but he has proved all of us doubters wrong. Losing Huggs was a tough pill to swallow but MC has made it bearable.

Money and a fan base where half the people don't hate him

He's taken a ridiculous amount of abuse by so called Huggins fans
Can't disagree with your comments. He was brutalized by some Idiots on Cincy.com. They made comments about his wife and other tasteless remarks. Hope he stays home and gives us some Ed Jucker type results.

He has done a great job. This team is his best. They would beat any of his previous teams. They will be very good come january. Cannot wait!

His whole family is from Cincy, he is most likely a bearcat for life. Unless he gets offered 5 mil a year to coach at UK or Duke, I think it would be tough for him to leave. Why leave now after he has come so far? Highly unlikely. PS He pretty much is Bob Huggins. He gets the same raw type players and turns them into studs. They play great d and the offense is sometimes suspect. He is a great coach that has followed the mold of a good basketball team that he learned from Huggs and Pitino.

The problem with some of you is that you think everyone is against Mick. I felt Huggins continued to underachieve. He brought in a lot of talent, but could not win when it counted.

When I say Mick needs to come up with an offense to make this team a powerhouse, quit coming up with excuses and assuming Im a Mick hater and admit that it has been a problem for a few years now. Huggins is gone and the transition is over. We are getting players, lets put it all together

The only thing I'm assuming is you don't know enough about the game or his personell to tell Mick what he needs to do. I really don't care who you like or dislike. As far as having problems with a world enconomy on the brink and health care going through the roof I don't list the debate about Huggins or Cronin a problem. It is more of a diversion.

I don't think you are a Mick hater, but I'm not sure I have ever seen you post positive about this basketball program. If you have I apologize but I know predominantly it's negative.

UC does not screen well and they do not pass the ball as well as they should. This is in part to me because Cash shoots from outside and does not penetrate and dish enough. Again, Mick said this is a new offense and they are still putting it together to fit their pieces the best way.

As far as a fast break offense, I think that was curtailed somewhat by the amount of turnovers early on. You can't have that against better teams and the coaching staff knows that. Let the season play out I think it will get much more fluid.
