Other sites are verifying what I said in this thread. God's Gift really enjoyed his UC visit and what the school offered. He is going to take his visits and make a decision after. Personally my opinion still has not changed. I give the Bearcats a better than average chance of signing him.

You just hope that doesn't wear off as he gets further removed from the visit, sees other schools and has other coaches in his ear.

Seems like a grounded young man. His coach raves about the type of person he is. Don't believe he will make an emotional decision. Whatever decision he makes will be well thought out and truly what he believes is best for him.

Hope it works out for UC with this kid. Everything that has been said indicates that he is a tremendous young man with a good head on his shoulders.

Having said that.....does anyone know how/why he ended up in junior college to begin with? I would think an athlete/student like this would have gone D-I from the get go.

No idea who dey but if I had to guess maybe he didn't start playing basketball until he was in high school... that's the case with a lot of foreign born players... he was foreign born, wasn't he? lol

In the nine months since Nwora discovered Achiuwa at an annual camp the coach runs in Nigeria and brought him back to Erie, the bruising power forward has tried to make sure he's known for more than just his name. He averaged 13.1 points, 13.5 rebounds and two blocks per game as a freshman, earning third-team all-American honors and helping lead Erie to a 27-2 record.

There ya go... it all comes together. :)

And like in the couple video interviews I posted, people call him "Gift" for short it looks like:

Nwora said Achiuwa doesn't have a nickname, though his teammates sometimes call him "Gift" for short.

Looks like UK is getting more serious.

Read a bit back that there was a time he was hoping UK would call. This late in the game I'm not sure. They have an elite 8 & final 4 in the past two seasons, tradition, and one of the best known, charismatic coaches in the business. As much as I dislike UK you can't blame a recruit for looking. Hopefully the relationship building done by Savino and Mick pays dividends.

I read the article and what I got out of it was GG is UK's fall back big man. If Jones goes pro, which in my opinion he shouldn't until the lockout stuff is resolved, GG then becomes target 1 for Cal.

I heard that as well Lobot. Not that in particular, but that UK was waiting to see what would happen with it's bigs.

Essentially Cincinnati, Washington and on some level Kentucky, have been battling for the same set of 4-5 big men. My gut feeling is we land Cheikh Mbodji...

You know what? I don't care who it when it's all said and done if they can come in and play. My choices would be GG or Jurick. All I'll say is this. If Mick offer Mbodji or Pressley he believes they can play. Steve Fischer likes him and so does Romar at Washington. I haven't seen the guy play.

Nothing definitive but the people I've talked to around the UK program believe God's Gift is waiting for their offer, those people believe it will come. However they are huge big blue homers...so not sure.

Big Blue fans think they are entitled. Wouldn't put much stock in it if I hadn't read the same thing. But that doesn't mean he is theirs.

The man with the best name in college basketball has schedule two more visits.

God’s Gift Achiuwa will visit Washington this coming weekend and St. John’s over Easter weekend. The 6-foot-8 power forward from Nigeria by way of Erie Community College has already visited Cincinnati.

“I don’t know if he’s going to take five [visits],” Erie coach Alex Nwora said Wednesday by phone. “It depends. We’re going day-by-day.

“After St. John’s we’ll see. So many schools are trying to get a visit but he doesn’t have to use all of them. It gets too confusing.”

God’s Gift averaged 22.3 points and 11.7 rebounds as Erie finished 28-4 and finished fourth in the NJCAA Division II Tournament.

During his two years at Erie, God’s Gift led the team to a 55-6 record.

@JayBilas There's a juco big man named God's GIft Achiuwa, and he's undecided. If you are indeed God's Gift, do you have to go to junior college?
