Jeff, I understand what your saying but MC isn't going to add two bigs for next year totaling six bigs on the roster to continue to run 4 guards out there. Some body isn't coming back if we land Obekpa and Rubles.

while I understand about Sanders IQ I can't believe MC would waste another year by sitting him behind Killa,Parker and Thomas. Remember MC's mistake with Parker. Sanders may get redshirted. Just my opinion. Davis has shown flashes but his minutes will be limited as well unless he can out play Guyn at the PG.

jeff, can never have to many players. Competition for playing time will be incredible.

I agree. Competition is a good thing.

Assume we sign Rubles and Opekpa. That gives us those two plus Modj,Gaines,Ellis and Jackson for two spots.

JJ (junior), Mbodj (senior), Rubles (junior), Gaines (soph), Ellis (redshirt frosh), Obekpa (frosh). Pretty nice distribution actually.

PG's are Cash and Guyn

Since he became head coach until eternity, Cronin will always be after the best PG's he can get. He's yet to get a topnotch impact PG. It will be interesting to see if he would get one, how this offense might run. I think Guyn is the PG of the future unless a better one signs. Parker and Wright are seniors next season. More than likely, Guyn and DavisIII take over the year after. But they will need minutes next season to gain experience.

Wings are Sanders,Parker,Killa,Davis and Thomas

Gonna be crowded at the 2 and 3 spots and maybe the 4 if they run a 4-guard offense. Rotation could include Wright/Guyn (PG), Parker/DavisIII (SG), SK/Sanders/Thomas (SG/SF) and JJ if they go big in the low post. Other than for future, it does show you they are solid next year at the 1, 2, and 3 spots.

There would be two candidates to redshrit or transfer in my opinion. Davis, Gaines,Ellis and Sanders. Can't see any gettng much playing time next year. Of course you could have injuries.

I'm pretty sure Ellis can't redshirt twice. :D Gaines redshirted last year. I think Sanders probably should have redshirted this year. I think it would be hard to redshirt (without injury) your sophomore or higher year. Davis will play more than you think.

The pratices will be incrediblly tough. This is a good thing. I look for Sanders and Davis to consider transfering or redshirting.

Davis won't transfer. He will get minutes next season and replace Parker in his junior season. I could see Sanders transferring if Thomas gets his minutes.

The following year Modj,Cash and Parker will be leaving. If things stay as I mentioned above we will need a point, wing and PF.

What are your thoughts?

Guyn replaces Wright
Davis III replaces Parker
Between Gaines, Ellis and hopefully Obekpa, PF will be answered.

mplebanon, not that difficult to redshirt after freshman year. Parker should have done it and MC said as much. Him and Davis will be hard pressed to get minutes next year with the bigs and returning guards. Redshirt and transfering are realistic options for both.

Disagree. Dixon started, and Parker came in as his replacement or they went 4 guards - Wright, Dixon, SK, Parker.

Next season with Dixon gone -
PG Wright/Guyn backup
SG Parker/DavisIII backup
SG/SF SK/Thomas backup

I see DavisIII playing more than Guyn next season.

I have been concerned about signing two bigs since the get go. Especially if Cronin is going to favor a 4 guard attack. Let's say we play 4 guards half of the time. Why would we need 6 bigs competing for playing time at 1.5 positions while 7 guys are competing for playing time at 3.5 positions? Let's say we get Obepka and Rubles...here is what we are looking at...

Mooj, JJ, Obepka, Gaines, Ellis, Rubles competing for time for one position and half the time at another position when we have two bigs in the game. This assumes we wouldn't see 3 bigs much at all of course.

Wright, SK, Parker, Thomas, Guyn, Davis, Sanders competing for time at 1, 2, 3, and half of the time what would be the 4 position. If we redshirt Sanders and Davis we are left with 5 guys getting all the 4 guard set playing time.

I think 5 bigs is plenty even if we play 2 bigs all the time. I say we should fill another position at the 1, 2, or 3. Best available.

Cronin will adapt to his roster. He has shown that already in his short time at UC. Cronin will sign the two best players he can and then will build a game plan around what he has. If that means going away from the 4 guard lineup, he will. If that means going big, he will. I look for the team next year to be able to play both ways depending on the opponent and in-game situation. Plus, who knows where Justin Jackson's offensive game will be next year. He has improved tremendously from year 1 to year 2.

mplebanon, I think your misunderstanding me. You said, it would be hard to redshirt after freshman year. That is not true. Parker should have redshirted his soph. year and MC is on record as saying that was one of his biggest misstakes. Parker rarely played last year.

Jason, I think your right. MC will play to his strengths. I guess the point is we will have a very deep competitive team. if you want minutes you better have a good off season. The competition at practice will be harder than some of the games. That is a good thing.

Absolutely! A great thing in fact!

I doubt he redshirts Sanders. At this point his ability to recruit better players has improved and I don't know that he needs to keep Sanders around for a fifth year. I could see him redshirting Rubles if he and Obepka both sign, that would keep the rotation of bigs at 5 guys. I think with the athleticism of Jackson, Ellis and from what I hear Obepka, we could still run a "four-guard" look with two bigs in there. I think Gaines will only be used as a banger and to spell other players a few minutes next year.

What are your thoughts?

already looking for transfers after one season in the program?

not every person who doesn't play transfers right away.

also, everyone is analyzing the roster and worrying about time for this guy or that guy. we will have 13 scholarship players. that is normal. not everyone plays. when you have a good program, good players ride the bench. this is a good thing. this is what we want.

also, who knows what will happen. a recruit could be ineligible, a guy might transfer, a guy might get hurt. obekpa could even redshirt. no one has any clue if he can come in and get minutes next year. this stuff has a way of working itself out. regardless, if we bring in two freshmen bigs next year- one will definitely be redshirting. rubles could even redshirt. who knows? this stuff will work itself out.

Not looking for transfers. I hope they all stay. I was suggesting that some who don't get minutes don't always stay four years. Sanders was a highly sought after recruit. If he can't geton the floor I would have to figure he may want to go where he could play and get better. hard to get better on the bench. Practice only does so much.

Last year everyone was ready to run Parker out of town and look at what happened. It takes some of these guys awhile.

I think Davis and Guyn have shown flashes. Guyn more of the reliable PG rather than a scorer. Davis looks promising to me as a 6-man, scorer type.

The guy to me that has shown nothing is Jermaine Sanders. I know he scored a lot in HS but he looks way to slow to me to ever do it in the pros. I hope he proves me wrong for sure but I just don't see the necessary foot speed.

Jermaine will be fine.

St. John's has signed Obekpa's high school teammate Felix Balamou. Obekpa is Lavin's main target.
