where is this team inside scoring presence going to be next season? obekpa is to raw right now. plus how is mick going to give PT to those guys especially Gaines?

I was thinking Obekpa would compete for the starting job...I think he would step on campus and instantly be arguably our best inside presence.

Oregon recently offered Chris Obekpa, a 2012 PF from OSNA (NY). Head coach Dana Altman made the 3,000 mile trip to see him today.

A good problem to have.

Lot of athletic size between Jackson, Gaines, Ellis, and then Obekpa. If I'm Mick, Mbodj doesn't play much next season, and I give the minutes to the other 4 guys (including Obekpa if he signs). I play them all season hoping they continue to improve.

mbodj is still a significant upgrade from gaines.

IF the OOC schedule is weak again, I stick with Gaines, Ellis, and hopefully Obekpa down low combined with JJ. They are far more athletic than Mbodj and I haven't seen much from him that makes me think he will be the man. At this point, I've seen less from him than I did Ibrahima Thomas. I was seriously expecting more out of him than we got.

Just watch. I'm not saying he'll play 20 min but he'll contribute for 10-12.

i respect your opinion but you didn't really give any reason to support your statement. anyone who watched gaines this year objectively could tell he is still a long, long ways away.

I know how hard he works and how much he wants to get better. He is very coachable.

If Gaines ever puts it together offensively, the combination of him and JJ will be a nightmare for opponents. Possibly the most athletic low post UC has had in a long time if ever.

I really hope Obekpa chooses UC. UC will be scary down low, atleast on defense.

Gaines, Mbodj, Jackson, Ellis is a thick front court already.

Not sure where Obekpa would fit with Jackson guaranteed to play, Ellis being a redshirt freshman, Mbodj having played a year, and Gaines being a part of the team for a season.

All four have varying levels of exposure to the program and may have a leg up on Obekpa if he does decide to COME TO UC.

Ellis and Jackson are strictly 4s. Gaines and Mbodj strictly 5s.

Obekpa could slide into either, but he is more of a 5 at this point....at least what I've seen.

I agree with you. He is not as raw offensively as some think but he does need to improve in that area.

where does obekpa get PT? shaq thomas is there next season along with ellis and the other guys on the bench now. i could be wrong but if obekpa doesnt choose to come to uc then mick brings no class of '12

Do you think Calipari worried about the minutes for Eloy Vargas when Jones decided to come back and Davis committed? You play your best players. Obekpa will be one of the two best, if not the best big on this team if he commits. If I didn't know better I'd think some of these posts are from UConn or Providence fans trying to negative recruit! :D

Too many quality bigs would be an amazing problem to have. If the overall rotation could go 8-10 deep we'll run teams out the gym next year.

Jackson gets a lot of blocks from weak side help and hustle on opposing team's fastbreaks. Obekpa strikes me as a guy that patrols the lane and alters shots even if he doesn't block them.
