Cumberland has the best change of pace and pump fake of any bearcat since Logan

Many fans were worried about his speed as it related to D1. Could he get past his man and score against D1 defenders etc. I happen to agree with you that he's got other skills besides overall speed that reduce my concern. Change of pace, good pump fake, quick shot, sure ball handling etc. He looks effortless on offense. Just need to make sure he knows what he's doing on D. It will come.

Contrast that with KJ who has quickness but lacks those other skills. It's night and day on offense.

So how is Scott getting to his lofty status? Leaving guys like Tobler out...

Leads the team in FG%. 2nd in rebounds per 40 mins. 2nd in points per 40 mins. Tied for 1st in TO's at zero (with Cumberland) per 40 mins. First in blocks per 40 minutes. 1st in PF's per 40 minutes.

Not a bad way to start the year and earn yourself more time on the court!! Would like to see more assists per 40 minutes since he is known as a great passer as well as more steals. These are the type of minutes we need from our back up big. Well done so far Tre!!

Scott has a nice mid range jumper...smooth! He gets up and down the court as fast as a guard. He can jump out the gym. He hustles. He's clearly our 3rd best big at this point and I'm not sure it's close. So happy to see this!! Very good red shirt use IMO.

My only question now is whether or not Brooks gives us more than Moore at the back up emergency 5. We can play with either Washington or Clark on the court with 4 guards. We can play with Scott on the floor with either of them. If...and thats a BIG IF...Moore comes off the bench before Brooks...Brooks is gonna average 2.5 minutes per game (in big games). A waste of a season IMO.

I would also say Cumberland is a MUCH better passer! He's better at getting his hand on the ball and is a better blocker than KJ. His instincts are through the roof on both sides of the ball. It's a matter of time!

My attempt at re-tiering the early tiers...lol! This is based on potential AND early results...

Evans and Washington...(A rating no questions)
Caupain and Clark...(B rating room to improve this season)
Jenifer, Cumberland, Scott...(C rating need to see more playing time)
KJ, Brooks, Moore...(D rating...need to produce more IMO)

Caupain and Clark have definitely been a little off to start the year. Having Washington as a "go to" option has hurt Clark's numbers. I would still like to see him crushing it on the boards.

Evans all-around game makes him our best player and a "go to" guy in clutch minutes. He can hit the mid range jumpers, he can make the 3, he can drive the ball. We really need to adjust our offense around him and Washington and ride their hot hands. Caupain and Clark will shine when they have to for sure. Jenifer, Scott and Cumberland will be our X factors. If they can produce off the bench it should be a solid season. I've been impressed with what I've seen so far. Everyone was saying Jenifer was the most improved and he's looked great, but damn if Evans was this good last year he should have been playing 35 minutes a game.

Interesting in Cronin's post game he mentioned as Scott and Cumberland adjust we will be a better team down the road. I think the door is opening for Cumberland to get more playing time. Obviously Scott will.

The battle between kJ, Cumberland and Jenifer will be a significant factor. I prefer more of what Cumberland offers at this point on the wing with a little Jenifer at times. Jenifer will get his pg minutes and steal a few from the wing when Troy moves over.

Asking Troy to play wing at this point isn't as good as what Cumberland might be able to offer... other than experience.

The scoring stat is a very important stat in terms of comparing players toward one another, but if you just watch Each player on every play and what they do for our team. Gary Clark is doing something productive 90% of the time. His problem will always be his assertiveness and he just isn't that type of person.

for him to get points this year he is going to have to be able to know down mid range jumpers because that's what teams are going to give him they aren't going to let him drive.

Definitely agree. Unsung hero.

It's so nice to see we have improved players in spite of our coach. Washington from his soph season at NC State to now unrecognizable. Evans early Last year to now... unrecognizable. Jenifer? Red shirt Scott?

It's good to know coaching has nothing to do with this stuff. Troy freshman to junior year. Clark freshman to soph.

Some players not really getting too much better but I'm glad many of them are improving without the coaches help...sigh.

Most of our good players improve in spite of coach but the worst players are a direct reflection of coach. I like how that works. I've been on the fence about coach but it's interesting the excuses that get made sometimes.

Assertiveness and endurance...but yes I fully agree!

Why does it have to be in spite of the coach? Washington was getting over looked at nc state and now he is turning himself into a potential NBA player. Yeah it has to be just Washington changing all on his own, no way could Cronin and company have helped.. Is crazy how negative some of the folks here are.

We were concerned losing scoring from Ellis, Thomas, Cobb, and Deberry. So far...and I know it's early... Here is how it shakes out...

Ellis, Cobb, Thomas, Deberry...50.5 points per 40 minutes.

Washington, Evans, Cumberland, Scott...83.6 points per 40 minutes.

Over 30 points gained. I know it's early and against easier competition but the signs are awesome. Obviously this means we have others who aren't scoring as much. However...lost to gained...we are doing very well. Subtract what we got from Evans last year...we are still killing it on the new introductions.

I was being sarcastic

Subtracting Evans 13 points per 40 from last year...we still gain 20 points per 40 from last year.

Some interesting stats from our bigs on the bench. Per 40 minutes. Points, Rebounds, fouls, turnovers, blocks.

Scott...23.5, 9.4, 1.2, 0, 3.5
Moore...16.6, 8.3, 11, 6.9, 0,
Brooks...6, 6, 12, 4, 2

How to earn more minutes on a Cronin team? I know it's a very small sample but...

None of them have a steal. In terms of assists Moore has 0, Scott 1.2, Brooks 2 per 40 minutes.

are per 40 minute stats really meaningful for guys who have played less than 10 minutes in at most 4 games?

i bet tobler's per 40 minute scoring looks great given his one free throw in like 2 minutes.

2016 AdjO 110.0 AdjD 93.0 AdjT 65.0
2017 AdjO 110.0 AdjD 92.0 AdjT 66.5

We're pretty much right where we were last season. (Understand at this point a large portion of the 2017 numbers are based on preseason projects --- which are based on 2016 data)

Probably not...but they can show a little bit. That's why I mentioned small sample. Take it with a grain of salt. The comparison is very stark though.

Tobler is a stat sheet filler...lol. but his numbers are better too. 26 rebounds, 13 steals. Has to get his 13 fouls down...lmao!
