Congrats on a great family tradition. But to continue to financially support a product that you say is completely mismanaged from top to bottom is more enabling then support. Why would they change??? A better question is why haven't they changed????

Waite, they've done the same thing in football with Tuberville. You can ask the same question there. Look at the women's basketball coach. What's going on there? Don't pretend that there is an obvious answer to your question that aligns with how you feel about Mick. For some reason, the decision makers continue to stick with these coaches, while other programs would have bailed a long time ago. UCLA bailed from Ben Howland after 3 or 4 final fours. Mississippi State snatches Howland up and now they have the sixth rated recruiting class in the nation. This decision probably has something to do with the stupidity surrounding the Huggins fiasco and sticking with this guy till he hopefully makes a splash some day so they can save face on their incredibly stupid handling of the whole situation.

I don't get why you continue to make every thread about how bad Cronin is or how everything is so bad. Remove yourself from the situation and be happy. Go on a vacation or something. It's absolutely miserable having/reading these debates on every thread. Dude move on so we can all move on and get back to basketball. Sell your sweet seats. Shoot I'll take them.

L-T I share your views about the women's coach and Tubervile. Not Mick. Considering what he has accomplished in my eyes we have a very good coach. My friend there is a obvious answer, find something else to do with your time and money. It may not be easy but it is a option. Like you I have been around for awhile. I agree with your sentiments about the BOT. People in those positions rarely look inward when assessing the failures of their decisions. It's apparent for 2 of the 3 you mentioned. I'll even go a step farther. Their handling of the Huggins fiasco should have resulted in many on the BOT being replaced. Do you really believe that they had no idea that Huggins had many run ins with law enforcement before it became public. They looked the other way. What if his drunk driving had killed someone? For all the good Bob did he almost drove a stake in the heart of the program. Cronin took on the very difficult task of rebuilding it. You and I differ on the amount of success he has had and if it is enough to retain his job. I respect your views.. Your a loyal fan of the school and a donor. Hope you continue to support the program and Mick makes you eat your words. I hope you haven't gotten yourself to the point were you hope he fails and have a hard time enjoying the success if he is able to produce it to your standards.

Waite, he's been here 10 years and still can't get to double-digit attendance and that is with the university discounting the absolute he11 out of ticket prices. It ain't just me. When this new arena shows up and they roll out the greatly increased ticket prices and UCATS fees, look out! This season needs to be a big one and recruiting needs to be huge the next couple years. Hope he is up to the task.

4 teams made the dance out of this conference last year. That's not counting SMU who won the league.

This conference is really not the cake walk some think.

current men’s head coaches

School Current Coach Years

Cincinnati Bearcats Mick Cronin 2006-
Connecticut Huskies Kevin Ollie 2012-
East Carolina Pirates Jeff Lebo 2010-
Houston Cougars Kelvin Sampson 2014-
Memphis Tigers Tubby Smith 2016-
SMU Mustangs Larry Brown 2012-
South Florida Bulls Orlando Antigua 2014-
Temple Owls Fran Dunphy 2006-
Tulane Green Wave Mike Dunleavy 2016-
Tulsa Golden Hurricane Frank Haith 2014-
UCF Knights Johnny Dawkins 2016-

That is not a bad group. Its not the Big east but it isn't a dumpster fire either. What remains is how much the lack of being in a P-5 conference will widen the financial gap making it more and more difficult to compete as the years go by.

WH, last year we were 22-9 in the regular season. And I'm pretty sure everyone on this board was utterly disappointed. Once again, it was an average season. I would be disappointed with 23-8 completely because we both know this team has talent. Question marks? Sure, but so does every team. Time to put up or shut up. And I really don't want to hear it about the conference being better than it gets credit for. Our overall record hasn't really improved since the big east disbanded and we joined the AAC. And we both know it isn't JUST the conference.

This is a thread about the 2016-2017 season and not about Mick flirting with the UNLV job or what may have happened had he left. There is no need to rehash this all over again. If you want to do that go back and read that thread. Keep this one on topic. Thanks.

I'm not convinced this year's team will be any better than last year's. As long as we play 60 possession, largely inefficient basketball, I don't know how we can expect a product that hangs around the Top 25 for an entire season. If we stop wasting 1/3 of the clock on every possession and stop taking terrible shots, I may reconsider. But I'll have to wait until conference play to see if any of that has changed. I'm not getting tricked again into thinking a Coach Cronin team has a higher ceiling than what we've seen the majority of his tenure. If we go better than 23-8, I'll do a backflip.

I think what went wrong with last years team was that I expected Shaq-Cobb and Ellis to improve as seniors.I don't think they did for the most part. This year we need K.J.- J.J. and Quadri to be better. We also need for Scott and Brooks to be decent as freshmen, If that happens we could have a really good year.

your idea of average and mine are very different. When your 22-9 and make the dance. Your one of the better 64 teams in the country. That may not be up to board standards but it is not a average season. i post hear and I have to tell you if we are competing for the conference title make the dance I will be happy. If we win the conference and advance in NCAA I will be ecstatic. I also still stand behind my post. That is a nice collection of coaches and the league is not as bad as it is portrayed. And I really have know you idea what you JUST know.

Depending on which poll you look at, we're anywhere from the 8th or 9th to 17th or 18th greatest basketball program of all time. During the Cronin era, we're not top 30 in anything.....results, ranking, recruiting, attendance,....anything. 3 of our last 4 tournament seeds have been 8 or lower. Last year we were a 9 seed (one worse than the year before when he wasn't coaching) with supposedly the most experienced, most talented, deepest rosters that he ever had.

He has not been able to keep this program anywhere near historical levels and yes.....because of that, he has been very average. The 2016/2017 season has what appears to be a very strong starting 5 and a lot of questions on the bench. Our recruiting class is nowhere on the radar in the top 35, so I guess we shouldn't expect much difference in how this season is going to play out. Many of us just use the law of averages to assume/hope that this season will be different. That is where I stand. There are some teams that do quite well with a very thin bench and the regulars playing a lot of minutes. I hope we're one of those teams, or I also hope that these bench guys finally live up to expectations and perform well. 23 wins won't cut it for me. These two years (last year and this one) were supposed to be when we took that next step under Cronin. Last year was a phenomenal disappointment. This is the last season with Caupain and KJ. I'm not going to be stupid and talk about Elite 8 again, but we have enough talent to reach the Sweet 16. We can also win this conference. But obviously, it all depends on the coaching.

I'd just like to hear someone in the program mention that winning the conference means something. Last year Coach Cronin flat out said he didn't care where we were in the standings...easy to say when you're in 5th place. Goals #1 and #2 each year should be to win your home games, and win your conference.

Again, when your program carries the historical stature that ours does, winning a mid-major conference championship should be an expectation in most years.

A recent ranking of college basketball coaches ranked Cronin #41 with the following description.....

"Why he’s ranked here: The Bearcats might not be a consistent top-10 team again, but Cincinnati always will be respectable under Cronin."

This is saying that we won't be Top 10 again under Cronin, but we'll be respectable. To me, that is a very sad statement for a program with our history. We're paying a Top 20 salary and continue to extend contracts....for just respectability. We are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on our facilities and begging for P5 inclusion. That says we want more than just respectability. We want to be a major player in college athletics again. At what point will just being respectable no longer cut it? I'd say we're nearing that point. That is why this season needs to be a step up....a conference championship, a recruiting statement, and an NCAA run.

this 2016-2017 thread is ruined. My as well start another one. That's a shame.

ever try to have a meaningful, fact based discussion with one of those religious dolts screaming into a bull horn? it's a similar situation here.

Lol. Why would you even try to engage in a conversation with someone like that? Maybe just ignore them instead?

actually do neither of those things and instead just appreciate the absurdity for its entertainment value while not engaging at all or only engaging on your own terms.
