Waite...I agree with a lot of this. I worry about depth but we will have enough talent to be somewhat dangerous. I have seen you mention Scott as being a nice surprise but I am wondering what makes you say that?

I think Caupain and Clark are going to each be slightly better than last year which is a good thing. last year for much of the season we saw about 20 minutes out of Evans and 20 from Thomas. Having Evans out there for 30-35 minutes this year will be a major upgrade from the time share. Other than rim protection I think Washington will be better for the team in almost every other category...and after seeing that he can touch 12 feet I don't think he will be bad at rim protection either. We also have Clark and Evans to help out there.

My only question mark right now (other than depth concerns) is the SG position. In order to be a better team than last year we are going to need Cumberland to be ready to play 20+ minutes by mid season. We can't have KJ out there for 30+ minutes IMO.

I agree on the depth issue.

On Scott I am referring to some things I have heard from people who have seen him in open gym.

Between Cumberland and KJ we should at least be able to duplicate what we got last year. I actually expect it to be better. Don't forget if JJ improves we can also get minutes from Troy at the 2.

I wouldn't say misleading. It's simply a fact. It also points out how poorly (a relative term) UC performed as top 4 protected seed the last 9 years he was here.

Yes, I think pointing to losses vs seeds worse than us would be more effective. Hard to knock the 4 times we lost to 1 and 2 seeds, especially since 2 of them were in the 2nd weekend.

Agreed on Cumberland. He should be out there with our other best players as often as possible.
Jake lets give the kid a chance to grow a bit. HS to D-1 is not a cake walk. he also has to be able to guard. If he gives us the kind of year Evans did I will be smiling at years end.

I'm not counting on Jenifer or Scott until I see them in action compared to our top players. I'm just hoping they can be league average.

This is relates to 2016-17 How. We have another thread for this right! LOL!!!

We may not be a race up and down the floor offense but we will be a much more efficient offense. Scott, Washington and Clark all are good passers. If our wings are knocking down some shots will be very tough.

What makes you say Washington and Scott are good passers? They have not played one second for UC. Washington at NCST had 67 TO to 31 assists. Scott may be a good passer in HS, he may take some time to acclimate.

Patrick I am going off comments I heard from people who have seen them. You may want to ask Chad what he thinks?

Why does Washington need to be a great passer anyway? He'll be a play finisher more than a play maker I'd imagine.

Lots of nice dunks occur off good interior passing. Plus if he is doubled you would like him to have very good vision.

The more outside threats we have (Clark included), the harder it will be for teams to commit 2 defenders to Washington. If he can just make the simple pass and keep the ball moving, that should be good enough.

Someone help me here. I'm a college basketball junkie and one thing I constantly see that is a common theme among the best programs and the team that advance the farthest is a 20+/game scorer. We have had Kilpatrick and Vaughn who fell in this category of players (am i missing anyone else?). Who on this team do you think could legitimately be that person? I see no one coming even close to this. 2 great scorers in 10 years. This is why I can't ever enter a season with confidence. Its always uncertainty.....

My personal opinion is Evans will join that group.

What if your shot isn't falling that day? Is it a problem if he is a good passer. I am not following your train of thought. If he is a good passer that would be a luxury right?

I think we might have players that COULD do it if they just upped their volume of shots. Caupain and Evans could be volume scorers. What I think we really need is someone who can consistently manufacture a score when we need it. We lost a lot of close games last year do to not really having that luxury. Last year we basically had one "go to" play...Troy put his head down and drove to the basket. Maybe that's okay once in a while but not every time. We need more options. I believe Evans gives us a lot more versatility with play selections.

I don't think nova had a 20 point scorer, nor duke the year before.

Usually the teams that win it all are teams that have
Multiple players who can put up 20 but don't average it. Nova had hart, Jenkins, and arch. Duke had okafor, jones, winslow and others.

When we had SK we lost to Harvard bc we had a 20+ ppg scorer but that was all we had on that side of the ball. We will have multiple offensive threats this season, from Clark to TC to Evans to Washington and also Cumberland is great scorer who draws a lot fouls

Not saying we win it all but we have more offensive depth than maybe ever before in a Cronin team, same goes for the year after
