Jacob, I understand your disdain for long 2s because analytically it's the least efficient shot, but every player needs to have touch from everywhere. You have to practice jumpers from all over the floor to develop good touch. Its a fact, and other parts of their games will suffer if they don't.

I was just messing around.

I do worry about Washington's efficiency though.

Plus, Long 2's from Big help Spread and space the floor. Give Ellis the ball just beyond the free throw line and his defender will sag of and dare him to shoot. But you can bet defenders won't be sagging off gary clark and Washington if they are hitting those shots. Then Clark can either take the shot or pass off to evans to attack the basket.

Sure Long 2's from your guards don't do nearly as much to change a teams defense but when your big guys can shoot, it gives you a whole different Dynamic.

That said, and this is a bold statement but I can totally see Gary Clark being a Draymond green LIKE player for us. He is a big who can pass and shoot from the top of the key, Draymond green nearly always catches the ball at the top and either dishes or shoots, but the offense runs through him. We could have a mild version of that with Gary

Long 2s are not good shots. UC bigs aren't going to change that fact. So the notion that it's a bad shot for guards but is somehow good for our big guys seems crazy to me. Opposing coaches will allow Washington to shoot as many as he wants from 17-20 feet. It definitely isn't in our best interest to hope he catches fire from long 2 range. Sounds great on paper to talk about him hitting those shots, changing the defense, then driving or passing. But he's our 5. Do we really want him in the position where his options are to shoot an 18 footer, put it on the floor, or find an open man while facing up? No way. Some have said he can pass. I hope that's true. But his NC State stats don't bear that out.

As for Clark, he showed that he has range beyond the 3 pt line. He can also dribble and pass. So I'm with you on the Draymond thing. But Clark also won't need to fire long 2s bc he has already proven that he can catch the ball and operate comfortably from beyond the 3 pt line.

The college 3 pt line is short. If you can hit from 18 feet, you can hit from 1 step back and be more efficient. That's not a hot take. And Clark himself proved that last year. So if Washington can't hit from 20'9", I don't trust him to shoot from a couple feet closer for less points.

I tend to agree. I don't really want bigs shooting from 18', but I see value in them being able to face up and hit midrange jumpers as that makes the opposing bigs step out and respect that shot. Someone like Gary can then drive to either get a better shot or kick it back out to the wings if the defense collapses. That is a valuable skill that Octavious never possessed. I believe Gary is there and I'm hoping Washington can do the same.

If Gary can really shoot from 3 at a 40%+ rate, I'm fine with him stepping out and taking a few, but in general I like the 4 & 5 operating closer to the basket for rebounding purposes.

Im not advocating that we take a bunch of long 2's. But showing you have the ability to knock down shots all over the court is a big deal. The Tighter teams play on our bigs, the better it is for our scorers.

But shooting is just as much about where you catch the ball and are open. If Kyle Washington finds himself passed the ball inside the 3 point line wide open, I don't expect him to step back and shoot the ball or pass up a wide open shot that he is confident in taking and pass instead. He should shoot it.

Ok yeah we're pretty much on the same page. I just hope those shots aren't as common as last year with Caupain.

Cumberland plays elite aau ball in front of biggest coaches and sporting handlers in world. Kj hasn't earned nothing.

You must be a parent! You have a right to feel that way! I 've sat in more open gyms than you this year as a fan, too know what it does! Good luck with your kid, I wish him the best of success as a Bearcat! Go Bearcats! I'm Team KJ all the way!

Who cares about open gym? If they both opened their recruiting back up Cumberland could go sign ANYWHERE, KJ a be lucky to get NKU offer. Not hating or dislike kj, just stating their basketball talent on two completely different planets

Mick loves guys like KJ. He'd play him 40 minutes if possible.
