I think your right! He has a very well rounded game. Good to very good defender, hits outside shot, makes FT's, has good handles and understands the game. I think you'll see him attack the rim a bit more this year. Its my opinion his upside is higher then SK's. I'm not saying he will take over games they way SK needed to but I think from a all around talent stand point he is more talented. Especially at this stage of his career.

Waite, I saw where his vertical is now 44 inches. He has a shot at leading the team in blocked shots, although Clark is likely leader.

Do you know if we will be able to watch it on the internet?

No it is a closed scrimmage to the public and to the media. The only people allowed in the arena are coaches, players, officials and game clock operators. I don't even know if they are allowed to release the stat sheets.

That's what I heard too, but I don't get why it's so hidden.

Yea and some of these scrimmages are not run even remotely like a game.

Some times they spend a half straight scrimmaging and others they stop for instructions.

I also think some teams work on scenarios. Like inbounds passes, or being down 2 with 22 seconds to go.

They less want to see who can win and more so want to play against a new 5 and have some control in the scenario.

Usually these things get leaked but it just depends I guess

Where do the cats need to be team wise to have a nice season???

Most people will tell we need to improve offensively. What does that mean? Change the offense? Push tempo? Be more efficient at what we do? Remember changing the offense means tailoring it to the strengths of your players.

Did our offensive efficiency improve over the last two years?

This kid seems to have the "it" factor so it will be hard to predict what kind of season he will have. Will he have the total green light to try and make plays every time he's got the ball in his hands or will Cronin prefer a more balanced attack and spread the ball more. I think his confidence will be at a point this year where he will thrive if we design some creative ways to get him the ball.

Obviously the kid works hard, has the skills, has the athleticism, can play both sides of the ball well, has a great BB IQ, he's a team player, and he's a gamer. We haven't had all of that in one package in the Cronin years. I hope we get to see him for at least 3 years.

WH we have multiple guys this year who can score the ball. Really don't think we will be a team that feels we need to clear a side of the floor for anyone player. Finding the open man will be the challenge. Creating a situation that makes it difficult for other teams to help defend will be a key in my opinion. Everyone on the floor will have the green light.

I agree we have more options this year to score. I wonder if nice guy Gary will improve his offensive stats because he might defer to the other guys who want to score. He's just not that aggressive. Evans will look to score more now that he's a veteran. It sounds like Washington looks to score almost every time he gets it. Troy is going to have the ball in his hands so he is going to score. I hope Gary takes advantage of his opportunities...because the other guys will.

I think KJ will be relegated to 3 pointers for the most part so he will have to knock down 2-3 per game consistently. Not sure what we will get out of Cumberland...I hope he's not shy with the other scoring options around him.

From what I've heard, Cumberland is a very good passer. He may focus his efforts this year more around getting the ball to those other veteran scoring options, and ease into the scoring role more in future years as he gets more comfortable with his teammates and the system.

That's probably a good assessment. I am starting to think he will top out around 8 PPG. He's offensive minded but there just won't be enough opportunities for him as a frosh with the other options out there. If we can get around 15 pts between KJ and Cumberland I would be happy with that for sure.

Between him and KJ this year I think they should work almost exclusively on knocking down 3's. We have enough fire power at the other positions...we need shooting specialists at the 2. Need to knock down above 37.5%.

I saw him play live twice when he was in high school. I'm not quite sure what to think of him. My hope is that he evolves into a legitimate slasher threat, something I think UC has lacked for years. He has a knack for getting to the rim but also played a lot of "bully ball" in HS. He was by far the biggest and strongest kid on the court most nights and to his credit he used that to his advantage.

I wasn't overly impressed with his speed, handles or shooting and I worry how they'll stack up against better talent. I guess we'll see how those things develop over time. Kudos to Mick for landing him because he's a legit talent and could have gone a lot of other places, now let's see if Mick is able to develop him and get the most out of that talent.

I haven't seen him play a single minute. I'm going off of what everyone says. I always felt that he'll fall well short of everyone's lofty expectations in his first season, because I've seen that happen a lot thru the years. I've watched a bunch of his highlight videos and some of the things you mentioned....speed, shooting, etc. concerned me in those videos as well, plus I think he'll struggle defensively. I think he'll struggle this year, but if he can pass and find the open man, that will offset some of his issues in other areas. I've never thought Mick has had a talent at developing players, but recently that seems to be starting to change for the better. I see pretty significant improvement in Clark. Caupain has gotten better. Evans came on late in his first season. But, we saw Shaq come on in the NCAA tournament in his first season and thought he would be our next superstar. Then the next three seasons happened.

I've watched multiple Cumberland games, either in person or the entire game online. I think Cumberlands biggest issue will be keeping his motor going the entire game. For example, if you watch the mason game, Cumberland had a ton of first half TO's and seemed a bit disinterested. Then in the late 3rd and 4th quarter just took over the game and ballooned the lead to double digits single handedly.

If he plays every minute with the intensity that he played with in the 4th quarter, then watch out. The dude has some swagger about him. He bullies it to the lane, gets the AND 1 and then stairs his opponents down. High hopes for that kid

I am not worried about his size and using it to his advantage at this level. He's got a big enough body. If he can use it like SK did he will be pretty good. It also sounds like he can shoot so he's got those two weapons.

I worry about speed on D though. We know what will happen if he can't defend.

Yea will give up a lot of points making it tougher to win. You don't guard you ability to help us win is minimized.
