You think Cronin will take Caupain off the ball if he and Jenifer are in together? Probably depends on opponent/game flow, but I assumed Jenifer would be on the wing in a meaningful game.

I think that would be incredibly stupid to put Jenifer on the wing. Also I dont think you would ever see them in the game at the same time and the end of the game. I was making the point this lineup could be used as a creative way to help with our depth issues. Jenifer is a pg and nothing else. Caupain has the skills and size to play on the wing. If Jenifer is in the game he runs the point and to put him in any other position would be foolish.

I don't disagree with you at all that Jenifer is only a PG. But I just don't see Cronin taking Caupain off the ball if he is in the game. I picture Jenifer playing obviously when Caupain is out, but in situations where he'd have to play with Caupain bc of fouls/injuries/whatever, I just can't see Cronin moving Caupain over. Especially in conference play when the rotation has been established. I could be way off. But if we're in a battle and our lack of depth forces us to use both Jenifer and Caupain, I can't see Coach Cronin taking the ball out of Caupain's hands.

Why? It's already been pointed out by many people on the board that Troy is not a traditional point guard. He is not a masterful passer. His strength is getting buckets in the mid range. Why would Cronin put a shooting challenged 5'9 Jenifer in the game on the wing and take the ball out of his hands where his strength is his passing ability? Again this lineup would be used out of necessity. I agree that Cronin trusts Troy and nobody but him will have the ball in their hands at important juntures but if Jenifer is in the game he is playing point guard. If he is not then there is zero reason for him to be out there. Might as well just play Tre or Brooks. Jenifer gets lost on D and cant score from the wing. If Mick puts him on the wing then I'll jump on L-T's and UCBearcats bandwagon and demand he be fired.

Unfortunately I agree with you that Jenifer won't be in the game as a wing, Mick is pretty awful at understanding offensive basketball but I don't think he'd stoop that low.

If he does though welcome aboard, there's a few seats left on the bandwagon. I really thought it would fill up last year when Mick left everyone in a lurch while he stroked his massive ego in Vegas. Oddly enough not many of his fans seemed to mind his unfounded ego or his openly shopping the job market.

I don't think you really have to take it out of his hands if he moves to the wing. I think he's (Troy) pretty good with entry passes from there with his height and a better shooter. If it's a motion offense we would see Jenifer move to the wing at points anyway but I don't think he would be as effective there so he would be a little bit of dead weight on the wing. I think you would start this lineup with JJ on point and TC on wing and then they can move around until we get the right matchup. Plus...JJ might push the pace a little up the court.

I think we will see it though. We have two injured wings already. I think TC and JJ will be on the court together quite a bit this year...when we need it.

I agree with you guys that Jenifer would be dead weight on the wing. I'm not advocating for him being there. And I could absolutely see Jenifer at PG with Caupain off the ball early in the year when we're playing easy games. I just can't see Coach doing it in a situation that matters. Caupain is his guy. I feel like he'd see it as compounding the problem to move Caupain if we are already in a bind bc of our lack of depth.

Again, I could be way off. And I don't disagree with you guys. I'm just trying to get in the coach's head and I know he is stubborn and I know he loves Caupain.

You're correct Jacob. ZERO chance Jenifer sees the floor in any key moment of any game. Based on what we saw last season he'd have to make a tremendous leap forward to see anything other than garbage minutes off the bench.

Thanks for the info.

Indiana State is #190 in preseason KenPom and they finished #168 last year. Not a bad team to scrimmage.

While Xavier scrimmages Georgia, Memphis and North Carolina scrimmage, Baylor plays Gonzaga, Marquette plays Dayton, SMU plays Texas and Utah plays Texas A&M among many others, we are happy to have scrimmaged Indiana State. SMH.

Didn't know any of that. Wow.

2 of our 3 wings are already injured. If the other one gets in foul trouble we have 0 wings. I can't imagine a scenario where we will have Washington, Clark, Moore and Scott on the floor at the same time.

I hope we get healthy but if you don't see some time coming when JJ and TC will be on the floor in a key moment...you aren't thinking it all the way through.

One injury and foul trouble at the wing will be enough to play Jenifer or Scott out of position.

This of course assumes we have Troy healthy and out of foul trouble for all our games.

We could have times that necessitate JJ being on the floor but unless he makes a dramatic improvement over what he showed last season, both on offense and defense, I could see Mick opting to have Evans or KJ bring the ball up the floor if Troy is being spelled vs putting JJ in the game.

As I've said all along about this season very little depth, a lot of questions marks and the track record of this coaching staff are all reasons why I'm not optimistic about this team's success.

The AAC is going to be pretty bad, even with a pessimistic outlook it's hard to see how a Mick Cronin coached team will lose more than 9 games this season. We'll play the same style of hoops we always have and be the same bubble team we always are at the end of the season.

If you think KJ might be a better option bringing the ball up the court than Jenifer at any point in time ever...we probably will need to agree to disagree.

Evans...eh...it's possible. But my point was...we would use Jenifer when we have an injury or foul trouble on the wing so one or both of those guys would not be available.

KJ bringing the ball up the court? LOL!! I'll be okay if he never dribbles and just catches and shoots all year.

I'm not saying I think he'd be a better option, just saying that if JJ hasn't gotten 1000x better on defense you can bet your bottom dollar you'll see KJ bringing the ball up the court before you'll see JJ doing it.

I like KJ and all but no way we have him bring the ball up over Jenifer. KJ was way too turnover prone the past couple seasons. IF Cumberland and Evans are injured or in foul trouble I could definitely see Troy and Jenifer sharing point duties with KJ, Clark and Washington out there. Troy's size automatically pushes him over to the wing instead of Jenifer, but they could both run the offense still...
