Just watched some highlights of the 2012 season. Once Gates came back we played Cash, Dixon, SK, Parker and Gates. I feel like we're getting back to that level of talent on the wings with the additions of Broome, Williams and Moore to compliment Evans, Cumberland and Jenifer. Plus we'll have a much better front court than we did in 2012 next year with Clark and Washington... Final 4 time?

Lmao. Can we get through the season that's literally just starting before we talk about how good we're going to be on paper in 2018?

No you're right. I hate when people post about being excited about Bearcat things on a Bearcat blog. It's so frustrating...

Pump the brakes dude. Broome hasn't played here yet, neither has Williams, or Moore, or Cumberland, Jenifer barely has (but hasn't contributed), and Evans didn't even make AAC All-Freshman...but you have them tabbed as the core leading us to a Final Four next year. That's great that you're optimistic, but what are the stakes? What happens when we don't make the Final Four next year? Do you just kick the can down the road and talk about what we'll be in 2 seasons again since no one can prove that wrong yet? I've been hearing on these boards that we were going to make the Final Four next year ever since the day Cash Wright committed. Sorry to rain on your parade, but you're getting way too far ahead of yourself. And a lot of the guys you're excited about (Evans, Cumberland, Jenifer, Clark, and Washington) are all here now (with Caupain)...so why aren't you thinking Final Four this year? Removing the Preseason AAC POY from the equation in favor of 2 current HS kids and a transfer vaults us to unprecedented heights? Sorry, but just chill out. Next year will be here next year. This season is happening NOW. So why not talk about that?

P.S. Will you apologize after next seaaon if we don't make the Final Four? Bc if not, what's stopping you from just boldly proclaiming outrageous things years in advance in the name of "optimism"?

Broome averaged 23 PPG playing DI ball. What's not to like about what Moore and Williams have to offer? Pretty sure having a 3 point ace isn't going to hurt us. And last I checked we've had some success with NY guards here. If you're not excited about what Evans gives us then there's no pleasing you. Final 4 is in no way shape or form "unprecedented heights."

I feel there is just always this dark cloud around you. My guess is you're just older and bitter from years of losing sports teams here. Which I can understand. What do you recommend I do? Yes, I'm an optimist sports fan following Cincinnati teams. So my expectations aren't terribly high. I pretty much just hope to see my alma mater win a NCAA Championship in my lifetime. I don't find that to be too outlandish. If I expected that every year, that's a different story. Didn't know I couldn't get excited about this year's team, as well as next year's team. Yes, I've also been pumped for this year's team dating all the way back to last season.

As far as apologizing goes? Hell no. This is a fan board that gives us all the opportunity to discuss something we're passionate about. So if your motive is to limit people from doing that, then good luck. Do I honestly think they'll make the Final 4 this year or next? It's totally possible. So keep being bitter and I'll keep to my ways. Agree to disagree with things. Or as someone is going to recommend after I post this- use the block feature ;)

I'm flattered that you think I'm "older". I'm in my 20s though, like I'm guessing you are. And you can be as optimistic as you want to be, but why are you so flippant when asked to be held accountable? The apology remark was tongue-in-cheek...just making a rhetorical point that anyone could claim Final Four and call "naysayers" bitter, then just hit the reset button the very next year with no repercussion. It's bogus imo.. I don't know what you're "supposed to do". I can't answer that. I guess the older I get, the more I see the same cycle repeating itself. Just trying to help you avoid the inevitable let down.

We're picked to be at the top of our league THIS year. I guess I'm just not personally ready to talk about anything beyond that at this point. The fact that you are made me think that you have doubts about this season. That assumption was clearly an oversight...my bad. But honestly it just makes me smh everytime I see the way in advance depth chart laid out all sparkly and nice with players who largely haven't had any humbling failure in big-time D1 ball yet. There are way more than 4 teams that can boast similar future projections, based on what's "in the pipeline". So I'll leave next year til next year...especially since this year is here now.

Couldn't agree more. We've got a good team this year, projected to do some pretty good things. I'm excited about years to come, of course. Who doesn't look forward to new talent. But we've got a lot already and this could be a special year, not ready to look past it yet lol

I would probably take this year's team because we have two bigs that can play. I'm concerned about wing depth but otherwise I like our versatility. Dixon and Parker were good but not great. SK was still young... Wright was hurt. Gates was good not great.

If we can avoid significant injury I like our chances. We had a good team back then but we were limited in our ceiling. Not sure what our ceiling is this year but I think it's a bit higher.

All this Final 4 talk....Hysterical. While past performance is no indicator of future performance, past behavior is an indicator of future behavior. This team will behave like it has under the last 10years of Cronin

NCAA birth, maybe a Sweet 16 if we get lucky. That's our ceiling.

All this final four talk? Where? I've seen very little if any for this year's team. Let's see how the first 10 games go. I realize we have the same coach so I've become a show me type of fan...but we have some good players. Last year we underperformed...it was a disappointment. I think the coach has over performed with lesser talent...but we seem to have the same results with every team. That needs to change.

Does anyone know how the scrimmage went on Friday? I'm hearing Cumberland and Evans didn't play again.

"Cincinnati took care of Indiana State. Bearcats rested Jacob Evans (bruised foot). Had balance. Justin Jenifer and Clark played well."

I'm not sure how good Indiana St. is but is sounds like UC did what they were supposed to do.

Thanks for the info.

Indiana State is #190 in preseason KenPom and they finished #168 last year. Not a bad team to scrimmage.

Have not seen one prediction of this team going to the final four. Even from the most die hard of fans. I think they have a chance to be the most talented starting 5/6 in the Cronin era but I am greatly concerned about depth. Quadri has not really shown anything in terms of being a trusted reserve. Two freshmen backing up the front line. The big x factor for me is going to be Justin Jenifer. If he can really take a step forward and be a pg that you can count on that will help the depth. He plays pg and you can slide Troy to the 2, Cumberland to the 3, Jacob can be a stretch 4, and then Gary or Kyle can play the 5. That would be a huge shot in the arm in terms of our depth if we have an injury or someone gets into foul trouble. I would trust that lineup much more than if we had to play Nysier or Tre Scott for extended minutes. Jacob is a great defender and rebounder and think he would do just fine at the 4 if we needed him to. In the end I probably agree with your assessment though. Sweet 16 is probably the ceiling unless we get a good match up. Excited for the season to start.

You think Cronin will take Caupain off the ball if he and Jenifer are in together? Probably depends on opponent/game flow, but I assumed Jenifer would be on the wing in a meaningful game.
