Not sure how this year is going to go. I always take things with a grain of salt but Mo E. On twitter was slightly bashing UC football after observing some practices at Higher Ground recently.
He basically said, he felt defense is way ahead of the offense...(hard to believe since our D was horrendous last year)
Also said after watching UC and Bengals practice you can see clear differences. Now obviously the talent level and all is different but I think that was a jab at our coaches being too passive. I could see UC's practice lacking intensity and physicality. It's how we have played since TT took over.

Also, TT recently said he has been very disappointed with our offense the past few days. I know we have a new OC, that's a concern. I think its the whole 3 headed QB race is stupid too. They will drag that out til the first game.

All in all, I wanna see some real football being played this year. The past few years have been brutal.

The differences he was talking about were rule based and aimed at how little hitting there is allowed in an NFL practice now. College practices are much more physical as crazy as that sounds.

Yesterday was his first time out and there is no denying the offense was bad. Was a rough day for pretty much everyone on that side of the ball...

Thanks for the info! I am surprised to hear college practice is more physical. I listened to your segment on 1530 and enjoyed your insight. You always have a good balance of realistic observation with a dose of optimism!

It's just a result of the rules in the NFL basically taking almost all contact out of practice in the last CBA.

Thanks. I try to tell it like it is, but for the most part I'm a glass half full type more often than not. It's sports, enjoy it a little...

I'm going to check it out. I hope the weather holds. Does anyone know if they let the fans check out the new suites and structure?
I'll be there. Not sure what access they'll give to the suites, etc.

Anxious to see each of the QB's.

As an out of towner, I'd appreciate a report from someone in attendance, if possible. Thanks in advance.

So far, the offense looks as bad as advertised. We have had 3 turnovers already, 2 caught balls then fumbled and an interception.

Moore and Trail have had the majority of reps. Both have been in 3/4 different sets. Gunner has only been in twice for a short period.

Moore has not looked good at all. Staring down receivers, hasn't connected on any deep throws. 3 passes tipped at the line. I believe Moore threw the INT.

Trail has looked better. He had a few long throws spot on.

Kiel didn't look very good either. Not in sync at all. Not many chances/plays ran to show him off. But he fumbled a snap, missed on some simple out routes.

Not sure if it's by designed but our offense didn't take many chances down field. we just ran a lot of short pass plays.

If I had to rank the QB's performance, it would be Trail, Gunner, Moore.

Defense looked better but hard to gauge since you couldn't tackle the main RB's or QB.

I left at 1235 pm so not sure what happened after.

I stayed for the whole scrimmage. Offense was really rough early, got much better later. They ran a lot early, but had a few series towards the end where they featured the pass. Overall, I thought Gunner controlled the offense best, but he didn't throw especially well. That surprised me. Ross Trail threw the best balls. I was impressed with his arm talent. Moore never really got into any flow. He wasn't bad, but he wasn't good.

I thought the D looked good. They were aggressive and swarming. The defensive backs gave our receivers fits.

They didn't get a ton of reps and they weren't allowed to be tackled, but I thought Boone & Grren both looked great today. Boone is an electric talent. Green looks like he's slimmed down some and appeared much quicker than I remember.

Overall, not a bad scrimmage. The D looks much improved and I think the offense will be ok with a lot more reps. Hopefully we develop a run-first mentality. Early in the season we'll need to establish the run to open some passing lanes. My gut tells me Kiel will eventually win the starting role, but Ross Trail could be the best quarterback talent of the three.

We'll see.

Go Cats!

Thanks for the updates guys. Disappointed to hear Moore didn't have a great day. Good to hear about Trail though. I'm just not a Kiel guy. I don't see him ever leading us anywhere from season start to season end.

Hayden was the only QB not to have an INT.

Good to know. Thanks.

I think Tuberville deserves some credit for continuing to bring in good QBs. He doesn't use the "playing time" excuse like we do in basketball. On paper, a couple years ago it would've looked like a sure thing that Kiel would have the position locked up. But no. Tuberville wasn't afraid to keep recruiting instead of making promises regardless of actual performance. I applaud him for that. Nothing like open competition over seniority to determine who plays imo.

I thought it was Boone all this time.

Really humble guy. That was a great interview.

Great interview from what appears to be a really good kid. I cannot wait to see him with a bigger workload this year. He could be really special - maybe as good as or better than Pead. Can't believe he was two stars coming out of HS.
