3-2 will bring us a 4 seed
4-1 a 3 seed
5-0 a 2 seed.

Win the conference tourney after going 5-0 in that span we could see ourselves as a 1 seed. To me, it's that simple.

I'm inclined to agree with this.

We are pretty firmly in Tier 2 in KenPom. The top tier is Villanova, Purdue, and Virginia. Then a dropoff. Then Duke, Michigan State and UC. Gonzaga hanging in close after that. Then a drop off.

Yah 4 point difference between Duke #4 and UVA #3. Also a 4 point difference between UC #6 and NC #8.

I guess I should mention the difference between Duke and UC is less than 1

Hard to deny those are the best 3 teams in the country. I personally haven't seen Purdue play since they lost back to back early in the year. All I see is them killing everyone lately, gonna make a point to catch a game or two of theirs soon.

Kenpom says we are #58 in AdjO. I am not sure that is a great representation of what we can do...but I would like to hear some other thoughts.

We have had a lot of blowouts this year so our starters aren't playing full games. We have 1 guy logging 31 minutes and the next is at 27mpg. I am not sure if Cumberland is going to get it going but we know he has the capability to be more efficient. We seem to go on some scoring runs with Cane in the game. If we get more minutes out of him I think this will also help.

I believe we can keep up the defensive ranking because our bench are all pretty good on D. But they are not nearly as good as our starters on offense (besides Cane).

So I just went and re-checked Synergy grades for UC's individual players.

This team is clearly Mick's defensive team and its because they have to hide no one defensly

Only 2 players grade out as "good" while the rest are "Excellent" or "Very Good" defenders.

This is just insane.

Usually Mick has a player or 2 that he has to hide with a matchup zone. That is just not the case, there are very few breakdowns on defense.

Watched a half of Purdue an michigan last night. Purdue is the real deal offensively. They have some very good 3 point shooters and on the inside the big man is very good scoring the ball. Defensively it looked like they give up a bunch of dribble drive penetration.

Yeah I've read that they're an elite defense, I really didn't see it watching the game last night. I wouldn't call Michigan an offensive powerhouse and they didn't have much probably getting to he hoop or scoring at all against them. But yeah their offense is great, maybe not as high scoring as some other teams, but functionally, it may be the best. The run the inside to outside game to perfection. Kick out for 3s all game. That's what happens when you've got elite post scorers, they get doubled and always a guy left open. And their guards can hit the shots too. they're gonna be a tough out in the tourney

Unfamiliar with him - can you provide any background. Is that his vegas odds basically?

He's a guy from pregame.com who does College Football and Basketball. Pretty knowledgeable. He's ranks the FBS 1-130 and D1 Hoops 1-351 and obviously there are disagreements when ranking that many teams, but for the most part I think it's good. He has 100 as the highest scale and the difference in the numbers would be the spread he'd make on a neutral court.

Another 3 teams go down on front of us. #7 West Virginia with 2 more losses this week, #5 Kansas loses to Oklahoma, and #4 Duke loses at home to Virginia. #10, 11 and 13 also lost this week, and two nothing special wins for #12 Arizona.

Bearcats currently sit at #9 in the AP, and tied for 8th with the other team from Cincinnati in the coaches poll.

We don't have to worry about anyone jumpin is with the losses behind us. We will for sure be passing up West Virginia. I was originally not sure if we'd pass Kansas since Oklahoma is also pretty highly ranked, but after they followed their win up with a loss to Alabama I'm more confident we pass Kansas as well. I think the real question is where does Duke end up. Its hard to believe they'd only fall one spot, or that they'd drop them in between us and X (AP Poll), but feels like the most likely scenario. The coaches poll is even more tricky, wouldn't think us and X would end up with the exact same amount of votes again but you never know. I think we end up at #7 in the AP and #6 in the coaches. However there is an outside chance we make top 5 in the coaches if the cards fall the right way (I doubt it but one can hope). Either way, come Monday we will have our highest rankings in the Cronin era, just one more thing to be excited about as a Bearcat fan.

In my poll I’m moving Virginia to #1 over Villanova.

Haven’t started building it yet but I’ll probably go something like this for top 10:
1. Virginia
2. Nova
3. Purdue
4. Mich state (picked up a tier 1 win this week)
5. Xavier
6. UC
7. Arizona
8. Kansas
9. Duke
10. Auburn

And I know auburn sounds crazy but when everyone else keeps losing and they keep picking up quality wins, I have to respect them.

I’ll say this; this is the weakest top 25 in the country. Finding a 10th for just the top 10 is a chore

I will always punish a team more for losing at home.

Like if we’re to drop to Houston on Wednesday, I’d drop UC pretty badly Vs if we lost in their gym

That looks pretty similar to what I expect it to be come Monday. And yeah I can't blame ya for Auburn, they're beating good teams and like you said everyone else just keeps losing lol.

Kinda funny...

2013-14: Started 7-2, won 15 straight to get to 22-2, lost at SMU

2016-17: Started 7-2, won 15 straight to get to 22-2, lost at SMU

2017-18: Started 7-2, have won 12 straight to get to 19-2, next 3 games are Houston at home, at UConn, and UCF at home. Winning all 3 would put us at 22-2 and on a 15 game winning streak heading to SMU.

Ok just sat down and completed by ballot for this week. Holy shit, it gets worse and worse each week. The reality is, we only need a top 15 this season because the 15-25 teams don't even deserve to be ranked.

I had to fit Nevada at #25 even though they lost because I had no one who could replace them.

Its a shit show.

  1. Virginia
  2. Villanova
  3. Purdue
  4. Michigan State
  5. Xavier
  6. Cincinnati
  7. Arizona
  8. Duke
  9. Kansas
  10. Auburn
  11. St Marys
  12. Texas Tech
  13. Oklahoma
  14. Gonzaga
  15. Wichita State
  16. Ohio State
  17. Tennessee
  18. Kentucky
  19. Rhode Island
  20. Clemson
  21. West Virginia
  22. UNC
  23. Kansas State
  24. Florida
  25. Nevada

That is nuts! I hope this holds true this year too and we silence Moody.

That is pretty wild! I will certainly take 22-2 again. This team seems to have a little extra pop when we need it. Evans and Clark have been doing a great job when things get a little bit tight late in games to go and get a needed bucket. We also tend to lock it down on D a little more. We have a few other guys who can give us a big bucket from time to time.

We still have room to grow on offense. Cumberland has yet to play his best basketball. Moore is showing he is not afraid to take an important shot. Cane is still the wild card.

WOW. Well 3rd time is a charm. We truly should be 22-2 going into SMU.
