If you listen to what the players and coaches are saying you can tell they are embarrassed. What I see is a team who has not been able to handle success because they have never dealt with it on this level. They become comfortable and fail to realize that getting there is easier then staying there.
Once you become respected you have a bullseye on your back and teams come at you harder because they know they must. It is this element that makes programs like Pitt, who have stayed on top for many years, all the more impressive.
Last season the Bearcats learned by losing multiple close games. This year they are going thru a different type of learning. They're learning how to deal with the burden of winning. It is a natural progression.
I'll be honest, Cash has not looked great the last couple games and it is in part due to his knee bothering him. I know Bishops toe is really bothering him as well. I watched him grimace multiple times when the camera was on him during the ND game. It doesn't make the result any less acceptable but the time off will help this team from a physical standpoint.
With the core of the team returning next season and a talented group of incoming players, the lessons being learned will be invaluable going forward. My hope is that the current team takes it to heart next week when they begin play for a national championship. Don't be satisfied with being there. Don't be satisfied with winning one game. To be an elite team you have to stay hungary all the time. It won't guarantee you'll never lose, but you probably won't get blown off the floor when you bring your heart and effort every single night.
