You are absolutely wrong. I NEVER want to lose! That's the ferocious competitive spirit I embody. I don't care if it's UC or a match on the golf course. Play to win or don't play. But don't enter the contest if your mindset is not to win. All sports are handicapped somehow, be it seedings in this case, weight in a horserace, handicaps in amateur golf, etc. Could be why Cronin schedules all the early season patsies - to get his team's mindset in a winning mode. A+ in theory, but it creates a false sense of being better than you really are. Who does Duke play early on? You may not win them all, but you'll toughen up quickly and learn what's needed to improve against very strong competition.
the schedule is in large part due to budget constraints. Your competitive spirit is exactly why you want UC to lose. It would mean eating crow about your opinion of Mick.

Winning or losing doesn't change my opinion. How he runs the show......that's the proof.
I don't know if you went to UC, but I think you skipped your logic class.
I can man up and eat crow if/when it's warranted.

graduated from Rollins college in Fla. Grew up in Cincinnati. Been a life long fan. He runs the show very well. Don't need a logic class to figure out when someone can't recognize good coaching and the skills to have rebuilt a mess.

Maybe, then, I flunked logic :(
Oh well.....

He did rebuild a mess from an ugly situation (and I commend him for that), but I expected better results after 6 years - especially on the recruiting side.
Cash, Parker and SK were good recruits. The others - the jury is still out.

I guess we have a difference of opinion. Hopefully Mick will gain your confidence. I see your located in California. I lived in Lompoc for 5 years. Played a lot of softball for a team named Pea soup Anderson.

I grew up in Cincy, went to UC but moved out West in '77.
Pea Soup Anderson's is long gone - no more windmill :(
I go up to Lompoc every year for golf tournaments.
I hope Mick comes up with some miracle ideas for the BE and whichever tournament we get in.
Differences is what makes the world go round.
No animosity here.

same here no animosity. Lompoc is the flower capital of the US. Stationed at Vandenberg. Was on MX missile launch team. Beautiful part of the country.

have you played the base course at Vandenberg AFB. One of the best military course around. Lots of ice plant.

CaptDave, one of the things I miss most is the Santa Maria BBQ. Miss my tri tip and beans.

I have really tired of hearing about the mess Coach encountered. That was an eternity ago and people still use it to defend him. That time is long gone. Please bury it. The future is now, not in the past.

And the program is restored where it was.

Played it many times. I did my 20 in the AF/ANG combo. Were you up there when Larry Gooch was the Base Commander?

I agree. You're not going to find me defending him. I'll give him credit for the first few years to regroup, but then it's find a team and a plan. Of his recruits, other than the 3 amigos, I like Shaq (if given a chance to play) and I think GeLawn can be a decent ball handler. Don't know if he's PG material, but next year may tell the tale. JD III is still an unknown, too. Depends how he recovers from his injury and at what position he plays. GeLawn can also play well defensively if he quits looking over his shoulder all the time.

As I said, the program is back where it was pre Huggs v. Z. They are making the NCAA yearly. Well except to those who inflate the success of the program after 1993.

1994 - 1st round loss
1995 - 2nd round loss
1996 - Elite 8
1997 - 2nd round loss
1998 - 2nd round loss
1999 - 2nd round loss
2000 - 2nd round loss
2001 - Sweet 16
2002 - 2nd round loss
2003 - 1st round loss
2004 - 2nd round loss
2005 - 2nd round loss

UC was good most years, very good some years, but not great under Bob Huggins. His first 2 seasons were his best. The program was huge in the city of Cincinnati, not so much nationally. It was a respected program not an elite one. I wish some in the fan base would stop holding this standard up for Mick Cronin to live up to that never existed. This will be the 3rd straight NCAA trip and if by some luk they can win the first 2 games, it will be the first back to back Sweet 16's since 1992 and 1993. Think about that guys.

I would not go that far. The city's enthusiasm for Coach and the program has not reached the hights of the mid 90's. It is going in the right direction, but it still has a ways to go. When I start seeing UC flags back on peoples homes, I will know the Catitude is back in Cincy.
