I noticed it. Didnt think much of it. I just figured it opens another spot for them to continue their really good 2017 class.

Possibly, but their state of the program for 2016 isnt looking too hot. Their depth is worse than ours.

They have a really good PG in Sumner but an unproven backup in Goodin but ranked highly(same as Cumberland for our SG position)

Both SGs on the roster are facing troubles with the Law

They have a good SF in Bluitt and a transfer in Bernard who in a bad conference on a bad team shot very poorly from the floor and almost had 100 TOs last year. Dont really know what to expect from Kaiser Gates in year 2, but he seemed more of a 4 than a 3 last year.

They have a good PF in Tyrique Jones coming in, but hes still only a freshmen and still hasnt been cleared by the NCAA

They have Rashid Gaston who sat out last year, but wont be anything close to Reynolds. Terrible free throw shooter who turns it over more times than he assists. Maybe he cleaned those things up in his year of sitting. Then there is Sean O'Mara whos not played much in his time at X.

Uc is going into next season in much better shape than X

You won't find this statement anywhere outside of a UC board.

Mecura won't be impacted by legal troubles. Sumner and Bluiett are better than anyone we have. They're a consensus Top 10 team.

And like I said, there depth is in way worse shape than ours. They have major holes in the post. As of now there post consists of Gaston and O'Mara.

Gary Clark and Washington(even in the AAC at NC State) are better than Gaston and O'Mara

So even an unproven Brooks, Scott and what we know of Quad are better than their not a single backup big on their roster

They play modern basketball though. They don't need 2 bigs on the floor at once. Not sure how much you watch them, but Bluiett plays the "4". As you said, Gates can as well.

Bluiett nor Gates are going to be playing much defense against Clark. So if they want to do that, by all means, go for it. Could get ugly

But again, for the point of the post. For all the people saying X is doing so well and UC should be ashamed for going into the season without a full roster. All you have to do is look at X. Same number of eligible players(with the possibility of 1 less if Jones doesnt get cleared) All the worrying about our depth, for injury and foul trouble, they are in just as bad of shape and it could possibly be worse depending on who they play

I doubt they're too worried about it. Clark had 0 against them last year and we got smoked.

So if thats the case, going back to your older post saying Sumner and Bluiett are better than anyone on our roster, we shouldnt be worried about Bluiett. since he only scored 3 points on us last year and 2 the year before.

Narratives are fun

Lol. Sumner and Bluiett are better than anyone we have. My comment about Clark was in response to you saying they can't guard him if they go small. I'm telling you that they don't care and will do what they do. Nice try though.

Again. If you don't think Xavier should be worried about their lack of depth. Just like everyone is saying about us. Then idk what to tell you. The entire 2016-2017 season thread always goes back to our depth and what are we going to do if someone gets injured or in foul trouble. That has been what all my posts have been getting to. Lack of depth. If we are worried about lack of depth for our team. Why shouldn't they?

Troy is better than sumner no question.
Have this argument with a friend on Xavier's staff each year if we combined teams the starting five would Troy miles Davis bluiett Clark and Washington imo

Only on a UC board lol. Nothing against Caupain at all, but Sumner is a lottery pick as just a SO.

Depends a lot on Davis. But Gates, Jones, and Goodin seem better than our bench (outside of Cumberland...but they also don't have a Kevin Johnson as a starter). Plus they have sure-fire NBA guys in their starting lineup. There's a reason they're Top 10 and we are fringy Top 25.

I don't really care about Xavier though. And I really don't like pitting them against UC in here. But I just think they have less to worry about.

Jones still has to be cleared. Think he will. But you never know

Either way. Depth is going to be an issue for both teams. Especially if health becomes a factor

No not only on a uc board. Troy is easily a better COLLEGE basketball player. I could care less about the lottery means nothing. Troy was better in almost every statistical category last year (points rebounds assists ect) he is a lot bigger and stronger and a better shooter. No way I'd rather have sumner as our point guard over Troy zero chance.

Are we watching for college success, or NBA potential? At least for this upcoming season, I'll take Caupain over Sumner easily. Not sure who I'd pick if both were seniors, since you can't compare that yet, but Caupain is more ready to win now. Proven leader who gets more assists, turns it over less, and has a better jumper. Trevon Bluiett is an absolute stud and I'd say he's the best out of UC & X combined, but Sumner isn't there yet. He's still a relatively raw athletic freak.

That makes sense. A lot of great college basketball players don't go on to have success in the NBA and have better college careers than players that actually do make it in the NBA. Jimmer is the first example that popped in my head

Xavier has a more talented roster but this year we are probably pretty close. The problem is they are reloading next year and our recruiting is still a huge question mark.

Sumner isn't relied on as heavily as we rely on Caupain. That's why the stats aren't there. Caupain should be a better shooter hands down, but needs to be more consistent with the jumper himself. Sumner is perfect for what they do, and he was a huge part of a 2 seed team as a FR and why they are Top 10 coming into this year. I like Caupain, but we're 2-6 in the postseason with him getting the most minutes at PG and haven't been seeded nearly as well. He has to deliver this year.
