So, a team could play, 10 teams ranked 65-75, win all of them and have a better resume than a team that plays 8 teams ranked 1-8 and wins all of them? This is really what your saying?

That's obviously not what he's saying given no one's profile fits that split.

Also, the entire point of the tiered system is to properly reward road games because everyone acknowledged how hard road games are to win. Beating 75 on the road is = beating 30 at home. Obviously 30 is a better team, but if we're going to draw that distinction, then why even have the tiers in the first place?

I mean duke just lost to St. John’s without Marcus Lovett and people defending duke like they are untouchable.

They aren’t that good especially if you defend well. They can’t guard anyone.

I’m trying to say based on team sheet break downs we have the same number of tier 1 wins and 3 more tier 1 wins.

Sure they have higher quality but we have 3 more and zero losses in the tier 2 column.

Loses still matter. Last I checked they have 4 losses, 3 to teams outside the top 50 and 2 in the 80’s

Then dropping to St. John’s would be like us losing to UCF a few weeks ago. We didn’t, they did.

Losses hurt but they don’t hurt as much when you have good wins.

We talking about 2 different things. I was talking about their resume and their ranking. Not their actual play. I understand they aren’t untouchable. I just watch a Virginia team that plays a similar style to ours, beat them on their home court

So you think that once again duke could lose for the 2nd straight week and you’d rank them higher then us?

Thats insane to me. I think we should be 6th this week.

In fact I voted duke 8th in my last reddit poll.

I was questioned on it. Looks like I was right about both teams that people ranked ahead of UC

Based on their wins, I would understand the argument. I would probably lean toward you way of thinking.

Speaking of Kansas earlier, they are one team I would love to play if we have to play a higher seed. I don’t think they are good

I think there are at least 5 teams in the country that... if we played several games against them on a neutral court... we would lose more than half those games. That's my criteria for saying another team is better than UC. The things you list... kenpom, home losses... those are factors, but those aren't the be all end all criteria.

These are the first 5 teams I'd say are better than us... Nova, Purdue, Virginia, Duke, Xavier. That's not a knock against this UC team. We've got a really really good team this year. But that doesn't mean there aren't still a number of other teams out there that are better. There's no shame in recognizing that.

I think our poll ranking is bloated simply because we've had a weak schedule the last 10-15 games, compared to other top 25 teams. We haven't lost, so we've slowly risen in the polls even though we haven't beaten teams of much quality. When we were ranked in the 20's, I thought we were underrated... now I think we're a bit overrated (especially considering we're sure to rise again this Monday). Again, that's not a knock against this team. That's a knock against the methodology of the AP/Coaches Polls.
We have beaten eleven tier one and two teams. All of our remaining games are the same. Buffalo is our best win per the rpi, but we have way more than that. We are definitely a top five team not because this message board says so, because the analytics do, our defense is second best ever in the Ken pom era and out offense isn't too shabby either. We in my opinion could be top forty in offensive efficiency if we played our starters longer. Compared to the top five teams you listed, we don't have any five star players, we got guys that develop and in some cases not many coaches wanted, we have depth, we don't usually turn the ball over a lot and our guys play just as hard if not harder than those teams. Our ceiling has not been reached at all. We got guys that graduate, we don't cheat. Anything can happen in the tournament, but call me crazy I would take the bearcat ten out of ten times vs any team in the NCAA, because there our Bearcats. This year will be our year, Mark my words.

I get the tier system. I think it’s a good idea. But let’s also be real when referencing it. A tier 1 buffalo win is different from a Michigan State one. (Duke)

Down goes Arizona. Man with the way teams are losing this year if we handle business like we should down the stretch there is no way we don't end up with a 3 seed or better.

I hope you are right, but teams raise their level of play in the tournament. Some teams are underachieving, and we have seen them put it together in the tournament in the past.

I love our team, but we are overrated. Just like Prancer said. Our competition is weaker so we keep winning when other teams have a much stronger schedule they're bound to lose or more likely to lose more often.

As far as our defense, it is strong yes. But on the skinny podcast they explained that it is artificially inflated because the offenses we play or not that good. That said, we're clearly a top 12 team. Maybe even top 8.

Kpom defensive rank accounts for opponent adjustments. It's not raw defensive efficiency. We're literally #2 in the country this year in that AND within a group of about 10 teams in the past 16 years that are separated by less than a point defensively for 2nd best ever in that time period ( behind VA this year.)

To much emphasis is put on the tournament, I definitely understand that. You say we're over rated but unlike almost all the teams in the top ten, we haven't been upset by unranked teams in our house. We beat the teams were supposed to. This year will be different because we have six guys that can score. We haven't played our best ball yet. Usually our team peaks and we can't score, this year we will get better and can score. We have two inside scoring threats who can step out and score. We have the NBA player who can shoot, handle the rock and take us home when we need a bucket, and defend like crazy. We have shot blockers, size and rebounding. We have the effort and defense to keep us in every game, no matter who the opponent. We have a linebacker who is starting to put it together, high basketball iq players, something we haven't really had. Our athleticism is great. We got size in bench, even though there not legit scoring threats, there's not much drop off in defense. We got an factor in Broome who hasn't even scratched his potential for this team. There's a lot of positives. Get a high seed, don't get sent out 5 thousand miles west and play a California school in the second round. The better the seed, the closer to home, the better were going to do. We have 8 games to get better, and were already pretty damn good. To say we're overated when these teams are getting beat by the likes of saint Johns, in my opinion is absurd. I would understand if they get beat by North Carolina State it a really good unranked team but they are getting upset by teams we would great by thirty. Things will align this year, this is our year. No doubt about it. One more thing we have THE PROBLEM.....

This is hilarious. So now that we can't complain about losing we are gonna complain about being overrated. The skinny podcast doesn't know better than kenpoms algorithm. Go look at the top ten again, let me know what teams have better losses than we do.

Anyone know any sites with good basketball coverage? ESPN has got to have the absolute worst basketball reporting ever. Unless you're named Duke, Kansas, NC, or Kentucky you literally get no coverage ever. Along with whatever one standout player they fall in love with and cover to death - this year being Trae Young who has like 8 articles on their college bball page.

I usually hit reddit.com/r/collegebasketball a bunch of times a day. As well as the athletic but I can’t say it’s worth the 7.99 just yet.

I don’t read any ESPN articles anymore really. Everything good about them was lost when they got rid of some of the best people they had

I hope you are right. I feel like the AAC does not really have that good offenses (I like UH though). I definitely feel like this is our year too. Gotta play well in the S-16. Maybe all the past letdowns are having me cautious. Our D doesn't seem to be better than ANY team but one in KP history. Even if we lose in 2nd rd (dare I say it), I know our team is much better than past ones. I wont grade the whole season on the tourney, but it obviously has so much weight.

I love this team. I was just tempering some comments. If people feel this is D is better (except one) than EVERY other team in KP history so be it. I don't think the metrics are infallible, but definitely a way to compare and analyze.

So you're saying you don't think we are that good?
