Yea I agree with TLL. After watching the first two games I would like to see him become more assertive on the offensive end. Needs to have more confidence in his game. He clearly is a talented player and if you are going to be the 6th man you have to produce. Simply being a moving piece and hiding in the offense was okay last year as a freshman. He clearly has improved his body and Im assuming his overall game too. Time to step into the light and produce.

He's not going to be the 6th man, he will be the eighth man, Rubles/JJ will be the 6th man depending on which one of them starts, then Guyn will play, then maybe Saunders, but even Nyrasuk would probably see the court before he did. I'm Not expected him to do much this year, nor do I want him to do much this year, we have SK/Park/Rubs that can all play his position and are right now better than he is. He will be good his Junior and senior season, not expecting anything more than 10 mins per game out of him this year.

I refuse to label a player based on their freshman year. There is a thing called improving that goes on from year to year in the offseason. Typically, the biggest jump you see in performance comes from your Sophomore year to your Junior year. I will wait on any of the sophomores until at least mid way through this year before I START to form an opinion on where they fit in this program.

I would be surprised if he only plays 10 minutes. Mick has stated he will be a big factor for the team just two weeks ago and has stated multiple times we are going 10 deep. He has been the first person off the bench in each of the last two games as well. However I do concede to your point about JJ and Rubles. Whoever doesnt start will be the first off the bench but Jermaine will get a big dose of playing time this year. Just want to see him be more aggressive because I believe in his talent.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out as the season goes on. Rubles looks to have the ability to handle the ball and play on the wing so that could take even more minutes from Sanders. I know Mick wants to go 10 deep but it depends on how you define "deep". 10 players might see the court but I can't imagine it will be for extended minutes at least when they play good competition. There is a steep drop off when Cash, Parker, or SK aren't on the floor. I think the backups will be to give those three a rest and that's pretty much it. But if Sanders plays good D and rebounds he'll likely see minutes as a key reserve giving Parker and SK a rest.

Remember we haven't seen JJ at all this season. I am hoping that he is much improved. If he adds a consistent jumper he could be very dangerous. And if he avoids foul problems better this season he could increase his p/t a lot this year. A rotation with Rubles and JJ could be very interesting.

Good point, it will be interesting to see him Sunday!

Gaines must be absolutely terrible. Can't even get many minutes in an exhibition.

He saw some minutes yesterday about 5 and Mick commented that he has been having shoulder issues but he did play well in his limited minutes.

Awesome. No problem. And I will watch all you yahoo's overreact to every little thing all year long.

Yea, I'm sure you will just "watch". As soon as the slightest negative comment is made about the team you can bet Stuart Smalley, whoops, I mean JasonS, will come to the rescue.

I'd bet Sanders is way ahead of JDIII at this point. As much as Mick likes to talk about a full out running team, he values the ball too much too allow it to happen. In the first two games they really haven't been a run and gun team. So even though JDIII is much faster and better at pushing the tempo than Sanders, Sanders plays it safe and will get the nod in Mick's eyes.

For one reason or another it looks like Mick prefers Sanders. If I were looking at last year's stats alone it would be debatable on what the reasoning is.

Sanders...1.7 pts/game...13 TO's...1 steal...33 boards...7 three pts...238 minutes

Davis...2.5 pts/game...16 TO's...13 steals...25 boards...12 three pts...213 minutes

Unless Davis is an absolute defensive liability over Sanders (which I haven't noticed)...I would rather have Davis on the court because he is a spark plug and plays with a lot of emotion. He's smooth and gets to the bucket on breaks and he can shoot better IMO. Hopefully the light comes on for him and Cronin sees it.

If it were me I would see it like this...

Mooj/Nyarcuk/Gaines (this is by far our weakest area)
JJ/Rubles
Parker/Sanders/Thomas
SK/JD
Wright/Guyn/Parker

I am worried about the 5. Mooj has about 6 rebounds so far and Rubles at the 4 has about 14. I don't care about the points so much...just D and rebounds. That is a minumum requirement for our center if we want to be a top 10 team this year. We are solid everywhere else.

My concern with JD3 is that he potentially steals shots from those that should be taking them. He looks to shoot a lot. Maybe some people like that but it seems ambitious for him to come into the game for just a few minutes and fire it up multiple times....particularly with this years team. SK, Cash, Park, Rubles can all score. I got frustrated last year when he'd be on the court with one or more of SK, Cash and Park and he'd just be jacking it up. If he's out there with G-lawn at the same time, I don't have a problem with it because somebody needs to be a threat from the guard position. But when he's decreasing the looks of our best players, that's a problem.

Agreed on Sanders. I was worried about him last year. He looks so timid. I hope that changes but he seems far away from flipping the switch.

That's a good point about Davis. Looking at his shots per minutes played he takes shots about as often as SK, JP, and CW when he's in the game. About one shot every 3 minutes. For guys like Guyn and Sanders it's probably closer to 1 shot every 5 minutes. That being said Davis had the highest 3 pt percentage for anyone who took over 30 attempts. His overall FG % is lower than our 3 starting guards though so he's not getting the right type of looks inside the arc.

So I guess I would say go ahead and let him shoot 3's when he's open and take your advice and don't be afraid to kick it back out when he's trying to create and force shots.

It looks like the one who shouldn't be shooting a lot of 3's would be GG...he was at around 27% while Dixon was around 26%. The rest of the guys like SK, JP, CW, JS, and JD were all between 37% and 39%.

Here is the thing about GG vs. JD. GG shot a much lower 3 pt % but had a higher overall shooting % than Davis. So GG should shoot less 3's and focus more on penetration shots. JD should shoot more set 3's and less of the penetration shots.

I think the thing about JD that hasn't been mentioned are the turnovers. He plays too fast, he needs to take a step back sometimes. He tries to force things, and that results in too many turnovers. That is why he's not getting the PT some would like him to get. Sanders doesn't turn the ball over anywhere near the rate of JD3. That is what Mick is looking for.
