I truly believe that these three are the key to our postseason. When Cheikh can give us 8 points and 7-8 rebounds we are a different team. He also needs to stay on the floor because he can hit foul shots.

Same thing with Rubles. Early in the year when he scored the team was better offensively. One big man scoring keeps the opponent from pressing the perimeter and opens up Killa, Cash and Parker.

Jackson just needs to play smart and within himself. It'd be nice if he would score on put backs and at the rim, bt we need him to contribute on the boards and defensively and not commit stupid fouls.

That said, I hope UC starts Cash, SK, Killa, Rubles, and Cheikh. I do not think McDermott can guard Rubles off the dribble and look for Creighton to play zone a lot to force UC to hit from outside.

Thoughts?

McDermott is not known for his defense. That said, Rubles is not known for his offense. I think McDermott wins more scoring points than Rubles does defending him.

Watching this Wichita State Creighton video highlight game...

Doug McDermott is unbelievable. Crossovers, step backs, mid rage, 3's, pump fakes, post ups, drives to the hoop Just deadly from inside and outside. How do you guys see us guarding him?

Have you watched the highlight tapes the Creighton guy posted? Does this team remind you of ND? What I like about them is exactly what we lack - movement w/o the ball. AND they get lots of assists. Mick should study these tapes for next year's team and apply the knowledge. Plus he should show our guys the tapes and tell them this is what you do on offense instead of watching one guy dribble the clock away. The clock is not your friend if you're not ahead, and, even then, you still have to be aggressively scoring points to maintain the lead.

...he's one of the best shot blockers in the country! The problem is that he always seems to pick up two fouls in the first 10 or so minutes. If he can actually stay on the floor he'll make it that much tougher for McDermott and Echenique around the basket.

McDermott's low-post moves combined with Jackson's ultra aggressiveness seems like a recipe for disaster. Hopefully Rubles can at least hold his own in that matchup.

If Creighton has watched the same games as we have they'll play an extended zone the entire game. It does, however, open up plenty of opportunities for the 7th best offensive rebounding team in the country at nearly 15 a game.

While I don't disagree with your assessment. My first pick for key player would be Parker because of his toughness and ability to get to the basket. His picked up more of the offensive load as Cash has struggled. I'm with you in that maybe Rubles can do that as well. It seems like every team we play has an unknown have a career night against us. I'm hoping Sanders and Shaq can be that type of player for us.

Everyone on this board including myself thought that rubles was going to guard otto porter, but it was parker who did. I wonder if Parker will guard Mcdermott, he is defintely strong enough...... but mcdermott could shoot over him easier than he would shoot over rubles. I would think Rubles and jaquon for most of the game maybe even shaquille, but I would think mcdermott would just post up on shaq

JaQuon cannot give away 5" to this guy. He's just too good, too pure. Porter is good but in a quickness type of move. McDermott is fluid and really knows how to work his way to the hoop OR pop in a 3. Check his 5's. It will have to be Rubles, JJ and/or Shaq. Shaq is surprisingly quick and has long arms. That's why Mick has him guarding the inbounds passes. Friday can't get here fast enough. This will be a good tight game. If not, we get blown out. I don't see the reverse to that last statement as plausible:(

I'm guessing some Parker, some Rubles. Switching on and off some. McDermott may have a few inches on JaQuon, but I don't think he'll even let McDermott get too close to the hoop. He's gonna have to shoot from outside.

Hard to say what defense we'll play. It'll either be all man, or mostly man. We are almost exclusively a man-to-man team but word is we've been practicing zone more lately than we ever have. So there is that. I'm guessing we'll start man and if you guys start to pick it up offensively we'll switch to zone.

Doug will not be the efficiency monster that he is in those videos unless he has a game like our home game vs. Wichita, where he basically took great defenders and beat the crap out of them. If you get the regular McD, I'll bet he's going to get swatted at least two or three times (probably by help D that he didn't see coming) and your length will make him miss some of the shots he'd make otherwise.

Personally, I just want to see the guy play and what a real All-American is/isn't capable of doing against us.

I believe he will get his points. The key is to not let him go off for 30. To me Rubles should face guard him and never leave his side. I would limit switches because Creighton is such a good passing team and if you switch and the rotation is slow you get bit for a lay up or 3 pointer. That is exactly what killed us against Notre Dame.

I think this has the potential to be one of the best games of the so called "second round". There are certain weaknesses on each side the other team can exploit. If the game is allowed to be physical I think it benefits Cincinnati, if it is called tight I think Creighton has the advantage.

When I talked in my earlier post about someone stepping up to score I was not including the big three. At least two of them have to show up. You can't have just one guy scoring against a good offensive team like Creighton it just puts too much pressure on your defense. One way I think UC can score in this game is off turnovers. As good a passing team as the Blue Jays are they will turn it over. UC will get offensive rebounds, they have to finish when they do.

Creighton has lost to some questionable teams. Their best wins were against Wisconsin and Cal early in the season. Wisconsin started 6-4 and the loss to Creighton was Cal's third in a row at the time. Both are NCAA teams.

Some of you need to get off McD's nuts. He's a 20 year old kid and is capable of having a bad day. Lets see how well his legs hold up facing our defense. We held a very hot Providence team to 44 points!! Not saying we'll do that to Creighton, but some people sound like getting lucky is the only chance we have to win.

I say we just face guard the heck out of derrmott and be attached to his hip. Rotate different guys on him so they stay fresh and annoyed the sh!t out of him. Play a box and one of him or something. I have a good feeling about this game and I'm not really sure why I think we will win but I do so I'll ride with it :)
