Conference Expansion: Memphis to Big East

This is speculation. The Big 12 will not add UL without a sufficient number 12. Right now that list consists of BYU and they are not budging. The Big 12 will not go to 11 just for UL.

Rick Pitino is against Louisville going to the Big 12.

More importantly the AD of Texas does not want to go beyond 10 teams. Texas likes splitting the money 10 ways instead of 12.

Texas is in total control of the Big 12, none of the other schools matter. What Texas wants Texas gets.

Rick pitino has no bearing on anything. This is about football and football only.

Texas has lost some power after the pac 12 fiasco and are waffling on this issue. They were initially dead set against it but all the other schools want it. A conference championship equals more revenue

Oklahoma is demanding the big 12 expand due to texas f ing up the pac 12 deal (oklahoma really wanted to go to pac 12)

Texas gets $15 million a year from ESPN for the Longhorn Network that they share with no one. The PAC 12 told Texas they would have to share it equally with the other schools, Texas said no way.

When you make $15 million more than every other Big 12 school just from TV rights you have the golden rule working for you, he who has the gold makes the rules. Texas now generates something like over $120 million a year in athletic revenue (UC generates $38 million) which is about $50 million more than second place Oklahoma. Texas rules every aspect of the Big 12 and will get what ever they want, Texas will not give in to the Okies.

If you want to read a good breakdown of the Big 12 conference expansion possibilities, read this: http://frankthetank.wordpress.com/2...his-to-the-big-east-and-b1g-playoff-proposal/

Number 2 talks about UL and I think it is spot on.

Cool article. So the Big 12 and UL want each other like two crazed teenagers in love. The Big East is like the father trying to keep them apart. Eventually puppy love wins right?

I know it said it depends on that 12th team, but BearcatMick is right. A conference championship would make a ton more money for everyone wouldn't it?

With the removal of automatic bids from conferences in the near future, conference affiliation is going to be much more important towards post season play. If the +1 system does come into effect, which its starting to lean that way with the BCS conference coming out in support, than BYU and ND are going to have to join a conference or possibly get left out

I just don't see Louisville staying in the Big East in 2 years

'Greg Swaim, at Big Time Sports Media, says BYU has worked out their major issues with the Big-12 and ESPN. Just a few minor details left to iron out. Louisville and BYU will be announced as new members separately in June. ESPN is demanding 12 schools and a CCG to reopen the contract early and they badly want BYU for their national following'

- That was from one of the comments in the article...So it looks like this thing could go either way.

It does make sense ESPN would get their hands dirty in all of this

"Dodds(Texas AD) also mentioned that future Big 12 expansion could target Louisville and Brigham Young University. Dodds said that his personal choice would be Notre Dame, and that he is working hard to garner that addition."

I most certainly am right. Memphis wik join in all sports in 2013. Ul will be gone by then. Another domino has fallen. The Acc and big 12 will make their moves before june. Sec and the big 10 are ones to watch out for as well

Temple now being approached to join the cusa/mwc conference

there are also rumors that FSU and Clemson are looking at the Big 12. Its better to not follow any of it until things become officially announced.

Eventually, the Big 12 will move beyond 10 teams and add Louisville. A BCS source close to the situation told Sporting News the Big 12 is waiting for West Virginia’s lawsuit with the Big East to be resolved before moving forward. Despite the Big 12’s public comments, it doesn’t want to be the only major conference without a championship game—and doesn’t want to go much longer without the benefit of revenue the game brings.

“That money,” a BCS source said, “is too tempting to ignore.”

Some things to note

1) Rutgers and syracuse are playing a home and home next year...in football

2) ul will be gone most likely after next year

3) rutgers and uconn are actively seeking membership into the acc

I'm not sure "some things to note" is an accurate description of your post. It's somewhere between "some random guesses" and "internet rumors I happen to believe".

I have been dead on in my predictions. I have never been wrong in my predictions

I predicted chaos at the crosstown shootout as documented on here after killas comments on furman

I predicted a win at gtown.

I predicted the team would roll post.shootout

And now I predict byu and ul will be in the big 12. Uconn and rutgers will move to the acc

Swaim is saying the big 12 will expand soon

BigTime Sports @GSwaim

Rating the #Big12 wish list in order: #ND, #FSU, #Clemson, #BYU, #CardNation, #Rutgers, but the first three are much less likely to say yes.

He has reported a lot of stuff that has been inaccurate in the past.

Is the Big 12 looking to expand? Yes. The first three on that list will NOT happen. No way Clemson and FSU leave the ACC. There is no advantage to them doing that. Notre Dame is not joining a conference any time soon if ever. BYU is definitely a possibility but there are some major concessions that would have to be made by the Big 12. BYU is developing it's own network like Texas. Not sure how many independent networks the Big 12 members want to have to deal with. They reluctantly accepted Texas'. BYU is not Texas. BYU also doesn't want to play any sports on Sundays. This will be a problem for sports like the Olympic sports and baseball. It could be an issue with basketball depending on when the Big 12 championship game is. Some conferences end on Selection Sunday. Also, there may be some basketball games on Sundays as well once football season ends. This is a major issue for BYU.

As far as UL is concerned, they will leave if offered. I think they will be offered at some point, but I am not convinced it will be in the next 6 months. The Big 12 doesn't want UL as the 11th school. They really only want them to round out the league as number 12. Until a solid number 11 comes on board, I think the Big 12 will stay at 10 and not offer Louisville. Why would they want to split money 11 ways without any additional revenue from a Championship game?
