Conference Expansion: Memphis to Big East

It is not a personal attack. Grow up. Your rhetoric is old and boring. At no point did I insinuate anything about you personally. I simply commented on what you continually post on this message board.

And no one knows how not being in a conference will affect their chances of making it into a 4 team playoff because nothing has been decided in regards to the selection process. The fact is that BYU really likes the idea of being an independent in football.

Not true. You personally attack myself and indirectly ralph for no reason and then tell me to "grow up". Do you see the irony in that? I say things that are fact whether people like it or not.

Byu is close to joining the big 12 & will do so before july. The only thing were waiting on is a new commish and the new bcs rules. Ul will be added after that. Clemson and fsu to the big 12 are pipe dreams at the moment.

At this point no timetable has been set for new BCS rules or a 4 team playoff. There are meetings scheduled in the spring but no guarantee that anything will be done in regards to the 4 team playoff before the season starts. Top priority appears to be scheduling of the BCS games per this article from the AP.

How many teams will be allowed to play for the national championship is just one of the many issues being considered by the guys who run the BCS.

When the games will be played is a hot topic, too.

The 11 conference commissioners and Notre Dame's athletic director met Tuesday in Dallas, along with BCS Executive Director Bill Hancock to resume discussing possible changes to college football's postseason.

While there seems to be growing support for creating a four-team playoff to determine a champion, how exactly that would work and when the games would be played remains to be seen.

"It's very clear the commissioners do not want the championship game to be played too late," Hancock said in a telephone interview.

He couldn't define too late, but in the past the BCS title game has been held as late as Jan. 10, and has regularly been played on Jan. 7 or 8 since it was implemented for the 2006 season.

Hancock added the commissioners were "resolute about not having BCS games in the midweek after Jan. 1."

The Sugar, Orange and Fiesta bowls take turns being played after Jan. 1, but ratings and attendance for the weekday games have been sagging.

College football leaders were hoping when they implemented this version of the BCS that playing big bowl games in the middle of the week would give those games a TV stage with little competition. Also, that they would help build excitement leading into the national championship game.

Instead, the season seems to drag on after New Year's Day.

Hancock said part of the 4-hour meeting was spent reviewing final exam schedules for all 120 schools. He said the commissioners would like to avoid playing games from early December to about Dec. 21, when most schools have finals.

The commissioners will meet again on Wednesday, but Hancock doesn't expect them to start whittling down the long list of ideas for how to conduct the postseason yet.

"Sooner or later the group will have to begin to narrow the focus, but I think there will be plenty of time for that," he said.

The commissioners will get together again in March, and another major meeting is scheduled for late April in Miami.

Hancock said he'd be surprised if the work was complete by then.

"I don't want to put a timetable on it because I might get surprised," he said. "But I can definitely say it will be a long and deliberate process."

Jason, you are wrong. They are being very pc and secretive about going to a plus 1 system in 2013 for pr reasons.

Also byu and ul are going to the big 12 in fall of 2013. You'll see soon. The talks are close. Byu told the mwc theyd fullfil their obligation for other sports for one more year

Fall of 2013. Sure. No big deal. It will not happen for 2012 which is what I said.

Interesting step taken today.

The BCS is about to take an important step toward a playoff by hiring media consultants to value how much it's worth. bit.ly/yn8gE7

I wouldn't worry about it right now. This rumor isn't going down any time soon. Notre Dame is not giving up it's independence and the B1G is not doing anything like this without ND.
Incorrect. Dominoes will fall soon. Lots of behind the scenes chatter now. There will be some major shakeups announced later this year that will affect the 2014 season

Notre Dame is not going to a conference anytime soon. The B1G will not expand just to expand. Maryland, Rutgers, and GT are not homeruns for the B1G. Will not happen. Dominoes will fall, like UL going to Big 12 more than likely but the B1G will not be adding any teams without ND coming on board and that is not happening.

Finally!!! You admit that Louisville will be gone to the big 12! I dont know why you just couldn't admit you were wrong from the start and saved the both of us all the arguments

You obviously don't read what I post (no surprise there). I never said Louisville wasn't leaving the Big East EVER. I said they will not be going to the Big 12 for this coming football season. I said that they would be gone if/when the Big 12 can figure out how to bring on BYU. Good try though.

You said it would be unlikely ul would leave the be because byu wouldn't join the big 12. Now you are already backtracking on your previous comments... You could have saved both of us a lot of time had you just admitted you were wrong to begin with

Jim Delaney has stated 12 is the right number for the Big 10. He said there are no expansion plans for the Big 10 any time in the forseeable future.

Word is byu and ul are joining the big 12 regardless of what clemson and fsu decide to do. Internet is ablaze with rumors that the big 12 wants to go to 14. If clemson and fsu do bolt, the acc is gonna go after uconn and rutgers
