Conference Expansion: Memphis to Big East

Swaim has been incorrect previously. I had a convo with him on twitter last week and his answers back to me contradicted each other.

First he said that Houston's move to BE would kill their recruiting and that no recruit wants to go to the BEast. My reply was that was bad logic that recruits would want to go to MWC or CUSA over CUSA and Houston got top recruit from ND. Also, why is Houston dumping all that money into their FB program if they can't recruit.

Second, he said that all BEast teams wanted out and that only the good ones were able to. Guess that means that Pitt and Syracuse have stellar fb programs. He said Houston and SMU don't help BE much at all in rankings. Swaim also said that he didn't think that SMU and Houston would be in the BE for a long time. When I asked him where they would go he replied, to the B12. Again bad logic. If the teams are so poor in the BEast why do other conferences poach ours?

So I guess take it all with a grain of salt.

Here is article he wrote yesterday.

Patrick, good points and I agree with your assessment. These guys are trying to get hits and they have to be controversial with their opinions. Swaim is no different. I don't know how many schools he expects to be in the Big 12 but based on his comments I am going to say 27. Just kidding....sort of.

Swain is as reliable as any of us posting rumors.

Swaim may be wrong a lot but hes right about ul. Louisville is gone and they will be gone soon

I have read that there is mutual interest in UL to the B12. They will not take UL as #11. THey will add a pair of teams. THis means that if BYU accepts UL is most likely out door. If BYU stays indy then the B12 is rumored to look at UC and Rutgers for NY market. (Of course rumored by Big Time Swaim)

BigTime Sports @GSwaim

Who assured you #WVU buyout would happen in October, when majority of media reported #BigEast would never let #WVU leave? #PattingMyBack ;)

WVU is paying the Big East $20 million to leave July 1, 2012.

God riddance!

Incorrect.
Wvu paid the big east 11 mil and will make 15 mil annually from big 12.

This is bad news for the big east and now encourages the acc to raid rutgers & uconn . Ul will be gone soon as well as their football coaches are already telling recruits they are heading to the big 12

This is incorrect. Big East is getting $20 Million. $10 Million from WVU and $10 Million from Big 12 via loan for WVU. WVU only has to pay back a portion of the $10 Million back to the Big 12. The belief is they will have to pay back $5 Million of the $10 Million.

BYU is a poor fit for the Big 12 for many reasons. But I'd be shocked if they would be willing to give up control of their TV package. They have their own channel and a full-blown production truck they travel everywhere, in order to have editorial control over their athletic product. All that goes bye-bye in a Big 12 deal, much like it did in a Big East deal.

Big 12 looking to add 2 new teams:

""Bonus Round: This could all happen again next year.

The Big 12 is looking to add more teams, perhaps as soon as 2013. BYU and Louisville are the names that have continually surfaced, and they make a fair amount of sense.

Presuming it goes back to 12 members, the league could again be back in this scheduling dilemma by this time next year. The divisions would have to be redrawn, the championship game would return – and things would again change.

But let's cross that bridge at the appropriate time. Each year has enough trouble of its own when it comes to scheduling in the Big 12"

The one thing I know is that the #Big12 will eventually expand further, and won't likely stop at 12 either. #BYU #CardNation #FSU #Clemson

BigTime Sports @GSwaim

#Big12 coming into those southeast markets will no doubt force further #SEC expansion. Keep hearing #NCState & #VaTech, but no talks yet.

You be the one that is incorrect, WVU is paying $11 million to the Big East and the Big 12 is paying $9 million to the Big East as a loan to WVU.

Never doubt the Ralph.

And I think Cincinnati is a candidate for PAC-12 expansion. There we go, now I have a rumor out there with the same amount of credibility has the Swain putz.

Pretty much all he does is throw EVERY possibility out there so he can say he was right when one of them comes true. He always forgets to admit that the other 300 rumors he reported were wrong.

Incorrect. You said wvu paid the full 20 mil which they clearly did not directly do

Also I dont feel there is a good chance of uc going to the big 12 unless byu and others turn it down first. Then ul will come to us with a package deal

If someone loans you the money to pay the Big East it is still you paying the Big East. WVU has to work off the $9 million loan by taking less in TV revenue.

UC is not going to join the Big 12. Per ESPN article today the Big 12 is set with 10 teams for at least a decade, Texas likes splitting the revenue 10 ways, not 12 ways. The Big 12 should change the name of the Conference to "Texas and them other schools".

But thats not what you said.

Espn also wrote an article about how the sec didn't want missouri.

A conference championship is the goal for the big 12 because its more revenue. That means at least 12 teams.

The good news is per the Enquirer quoting Whit Babcock, UC will get a little bit of the $20 million WVU is paying to leave the Big East.

With that money, Whit said he is going to look into upgrading the Shoe or Nippert. Good news all around.
