Conference Realignment

After thinking about going to the Big12 from a fans perspective I am not sure the B12 is all that great. The TV revenue is the biggest benefit.

Obviously unless you are a one loss Oklahoma or Texas from the B12 you probably aren't getting in the playoff unless you go undefeated. Big schools will want to start scheduling teams like Cincinnati OOC anyways. UC will get their shot against major football programs. We will definitely win more conference titles in the AAC.

If Cincinnati were to have gone undefeated this season (for arguments sake) we would have got in the playoff. We would have beaten OSU, Miami, and ECU.

Cincinnati will have a shot at the conference title every year in both basketball and football. From purely a win/loss perspective Cincinnati can dominate the AAC. This will never be the case in the B12.

Some of the largest Universities in terms of enrollment are in the AAC...UC, UCF, USF, Houston...The AAC does have the potential for contract growth.

Would you rather dominate a weak conference or be the cellar dwellers of the B12 in football?

Jumping the gun on the "cellar dwellers" comment I think. Expanded revenues lead to expanded recruiting down the line, so though a few years might be a bit painful, the long term is the primary goal.

Point is, you get more exposure losing the Citrus Bowl than winning the Pepperridge Farms Texas Toast Never Forget bowl. The exposure is what matters in the short term.

We wouldn't be in the playoff if we were undefeated this year. And the bottom of the Big 12 is a mess. No way we'd be cellar dwellers.

Cincinnati will never be in the Big 12 as it is currently constructed...

This is a true statement only because of the phrase "currently constructed." That would be an impossibility because the current construction does not include UC.

I am on record saying I think UC will eventually end up in the Big 12. I still believe this to be true. I used to think it would be 5 years down the road. Now, I do think this will happen in the next 6-12 months. The Big 12 is losing A LOT of money by not having 12 teams. In addition to being left out of the playoff (yes, a conference championship game matters), they are losing revenue from no conference title game AND from bowl money lost due to fewer teams. The reality is that the SEC is sending 12 out of 14 teams to bowl games. The B1G is sending 10 out of 14 teams to bowl games. Even the ACC is sending 11 out of 16 to bowl games. The Big 12 is sending 7 out of 10. The average is 75% of those teams are going to bowl games. The Big 12 is at 70%. It is reasonable to assume that the Big 12 could send 9 teams to a bowl game in any given year. That is lost revenue every year that they aren't getting back. They would get more overall TV money, would have had a school in the playoff this year and would have 2 more teams (on average) in bowl games every year. Money rules college athletics and this will eventually win out in this case too. Texas may be holding everything up but rumors are that the rest of the Big 12 wants expansion NOW. I think this gets done as soon as the NCAA denies their request for a conference championship game with 10 members. I believe it is still the NCAA that needs to decide. If it is the other Power 5 conferences, forget about it. It serves them no good to give the Big 12 this advantage.

I think the Big 12 should move right past 12 teams and go to 14 but I doubt that happens. I think UC and Memphis are the two most logical choices. BYU has too many issues associated with it and they would be out west on their own much in the same way WVU is out east. If you go to 14, add BYU and Boise State to it. That can give you 2 more good football programs and the additions of UC and Memphis on the basketball side far outweigh the negative of adding Boise State. I doubt they go to 14 though and I think UC and Memphis are the two most logical choices.

You do not see UCF OR SF in the picture.

ESPNU ranked the candidates for Big 12 expansion as...
1. BYU
2. Boise State
3. Houston
4. Colorado State
5. Central Florida

Cincinnati, SMU, Fresno State, Memphis, and Air Force were left on their board. They did specifically say UC eas very intriguing though.

Internal memo title probably looked something like "In order of most television dollars to least, here is who we are lobbying the B12 to add. It would be a shame if their revenue suddenly started drying out if they disregarded it..."

Logical and the Big XII don't go together. The fact that they are in this situation says all you need to know. They are resistant to expansion and will do anything in their power to keep it at 10 teams. If you read Bowlsby's comments yesterday after the CFP show he is obviously not a visionary. I don't know what they will do but have a hunch it will be unconventional, as everything they have done to this point has been that way.

Yeah....maybe we wouldn't be in the playoff. However, we would definitely be in the conversation. Being in the conversation is the same boat that TCU and Baylor is in.

"Cellar dweller" may be a little harsh. We would have a tough time at first.

HAHAHA!!! Nice smart ass response. I added that caveat because there is a possibility in about a decade or so when Texas/Oklahoma leave the Big 12, Cincinnati could be invited and the conference would likely still be called the Big 12 (though consisting mostly of current G5 teams)....

The Big 12 WILL NOT expand in it's current format to 12 let alone 14...where did that nonsense come from??? There aren't even 2 viable candidates, so why would they add 4??? Think for once, it will do you some good.

It's all about money. 14 makes sense if they think they can expand the television deal and number of programs in bowl games. I think it is unlikely but the possibility exists. If the Big 12 talks expansion, moving to 14 will be discussed. If the revenue doesn't increase enough it won't be considered very long. I think it will ultimately go to 12. Time will tell.

Its definitely a possibility.

Nope!

At Big 12 function in NY: no one ever talked to Cincy, OU’s Joe C wasn't at UCF & SMU’s BOR report UM/Cincy getting invites wrong

Every person I spoke to today that’s from Big 12 or Big 12 school: league is not expanding

So you think there is no chance ever or just for right now? I mean wouldn't UC in the B12 make sense? We got the new venue, a growing football program and a consistent bball program.

Nope!

The Big 12 will deny all the way up until the press conference to announce new additions (assuming it ever happens). It is in their best interest to do so.
