Cronin extension through 2021

While this is good news, in reality I think it really doesn't mean anything. If he wanted to leave he would and could regardless of his contract status. I don't even know why college coaches bother with contracts or more so how they can be considered contracts. It does show our commitment to him and that goes a long way. I also think that by him agreeing to and signing the new contract that he has assurances of the other things that he wants to see the university do for the program. So again, this is a good thing.

Wow!! That would be great news. That's about a 15M buyout (although I don't know exactly how those work).

Assuming this gets inked...it probably means Cronin is happy with the university addressing other issues like budget and arena as well.

Looking at 2013 numbers this would put Cronin in the top 15 in salary

Mick isn't going anywhere unless there is an outright refusal to invest and it seems the university is going to make the effort to do just that.

I don't think he is either. My point was more that if he so chose to that this contract wouldn't do anything to stop him. The only point I've ever heard that makes sense for coaches being extended so far out is it lets recruits know you're going to be there for the long term, which again is at the whim of any coach to leave. I think this stupid 5/3rd renovation talk has got me riled up today.

Really don't know many others who would have taken on such a task,endured all the insults and succeded to boot. Great job Coach and I hope your here even longer.

Mick desserves every penny he gets and should be paid in the top 15 of coaches. He has us there with outdated facilities, a weak budget, pretty bad support for his program from the city and is overshadowed by the football team.
I do think they should have updated Nippert and added the bubble field because of the back-to-back BCS games and all the money they have brought in, but now it is Cronin's time. I want to see him coach every game of his career here and retire a Bearcat. Passing Huggins in wins and titles.

The extension should help recruiting in that other programs can't negative recruit against the Cats by saying that Cronin wouldn't be around much longer.

If this is true I am VERY interested in the timeline of making these "enhancements" happen. I don't think Cronin would be content with some 10 year + plan. I would think an increased BB/recruiting/marketing budget might stave him off for a few years but asking him to wait for 5+ years for facility "enhancements" I would think he would be reluctant about.

I admit I could also be way off...

He is a nice link between Cronin and Dan Hoard. Cronin talks about how special it is to Coach here at UC and what it means. (Its short, maybe a minute long)

I love hearing coach say things like he mentions in this snippet. He is proud of his Alma Mater and city he grew up in. Not too many coaches can experience that sort of pride.
