Huggs best team, #1 in the country lost to X.
Starting to notice a theme.
Huggs best team, #1 in the country lost to X.
Honestly, they benefit more than we do.
I see no reason to keep it going. Tradition, by itself, is a stupid justification. There have been incidents, multiple years in a row. They don't pull players when they throw punches, they won't come down on anyone unless the A-10 forces them, their fans are spoiled, suburbanite, zima drinking, civic driving, shit stains, who chant "F UC" through the national anthem.
It's the one sport they have, let them play someone else for relevance.
It's tired.
What happens when we have a fight with them, that takes away key players through conference play?
What happens, when we have a fight with them that results in someone actually suffering permanent injury? What if one of the kids gets arrested?
For what? Some stupid series, that most new students at UC, don't even care about?
With football's rise to relevance, do most students even know the history of this game? Do they even care?
Their administration is clinically retarded.
Bad enough they suggested their students have some sort of positive thinking, pow-wow; they recanted at the students request.
Some real leadership there...

It's really interesting to me to see so many UC fans not want to play Xavier. I think it is no coincidence that Xavier has been dominating the series the last 15 years or so. If UC had won it's fair share of games, and didn't just get shelacked by X, no UC fans would want to cancel the series.
I think it's been a while since UC has been the dominating team in the series, and it's not fun for UC fans any more, because they aren't winning. It's really pretty simple.

All that being said, me being a UC football fan I want us to play tO$U regularly because I think we can play with them. But there's really nothing in it for them. If we win it's an upset. If they win it's status quo. So I understand how you feel being a Xavier fan and all, but don't mistake our fans logically approaching the lose-lose nature of this game as "I'm taking my ball and going home."

How is this a lose- lose for UC? Xavier has been the superior program as of late, anyone with a brain would tell you that.
What I find very interesting is we are getting to the point where UC fans are 50/50 if they want to play the game.
I dont think I have seen 1 Xavier fan suggest cancelling it.
I really dont care what they think. I think the previous 3-4 seasons of putting up with really bad behavior (both sides) is getting really old. I think you suspend the game for a couple of years and perhaps try to pick it back up in 3 or 4 years.
Pretty sure VT and WVU stopped playing once VT went to ACC because the rivalry had gotten too out of hand.
If UC can "replace" the XU game with a game against IU, OSU, Michigan, or Kentucky, I think UC fans would gladly drop the XU game. Adrock explained it perfectly. It is a lose-lose situation and has been forever. That said, if the UC administration can't get one or more of those schools above to play us, I think the XU game will stay on the schedule. UC's program is back to the point where UC will be expected to win that XU game every year. There is no reason to keep the game going just because it has always been played.
I think it's well past 50/50 with the fans as we sit today. I don't think it will happen though. When the season rolls around and we see that home game on the schedule, it's still one of the 5 or so must have tickets. I think if you re-polled the fans the week of next year's shootout, you'll find very few fans still wanting the game to end.
The administration knows better than to make huge decisions during an emotional time based on the fan's opinions.
It's never been a "must" game for me.
Been watching the game for 30+ years now. It has always been a bigger game for Xavier and their fans. UC fans simply breathe a sigh of relief, and say "next opponent". UC fans only care because they don't want to hear and take crap from Xavier fans. Otherwise, there's no feeling of beating some powerhouse program from winning. It's like swatting a nagging gnat or fly around your face. You just want them to go away. Nobody likes losing to their little brother. And that's what losing to Xavier is like for me and all of my UC friends. It's more of an annoyance than anything.
I'd rather UC be in position to knock off a powerhouse program than be fodder for the "got nothing to lose" Xavier program. I'd rather be the team with nothing to lose than the team with everything to lose, like when we play X.
Let's schedule someone else and move on.
So when you walked out of 5/3 after we crushed X last time there, you were feeling like we lost?
This "lose-lose" crap is ridiculous. In no way is beating Xavier losing. Not in anyone's eyes in the whole country. Even on year's when it's not a great win, it's still a positive.
The UC-XU game is one of the best rivalries in college basketball and captures the attention of the entire city every year. The best thing that can happen for the rivalry is for both teams to continue to have successful programs. I love the game. I can't believe there are so many UC fans that don't want the game played. It hasn't been lose-lose for UC in a long while. Even so, who cares, since when is UC about backing out? Who are we, O$U? It seems like a lot of UC fans don't want to play XU almost out of fear for losing.
If the game can't be played anymore because of the brawl then shame on everyone involved. Learn from the mistake and move on.
