And you apparently are exhibit A for someone that needs to realize this is just sports and it's ok to have strong opinions. I personally hate the holier than thou fans that think they are above everyone else.

I can understand your frustration. Why so much hate for a school that isnt even in the same conference or isnt even a rivalry? I know. because you want what they have.

As for the last comment. I am. Google me:D

I grew up in Northern Ohio. Everything was about Ohio State. I've hated them ever since I can remember because of their asshat fans and the fact that they believe they are better than everyone else. tO$U? bullshit, just a bunch of cheaters...proven very recently. And that's the tip of the iceberg.

Yup. I wouldn't care one bit about Ohio State if their fans weren't the worst fans in the country. Obviously not all their fans are bad but there are plenty that you just want to stab in the eye.

I grew up thinking all major programs had asshole fans. OSU and UK obviously have strong fanbases in Cincinnati, and many of them appear to be assholes. I thought it was just something that happened when you had a good team, that you could thumb your nose down at everyone else. It wasn't actually until I met my wife and a bunch of her friends from school (University of Texas - Austin) that I realized that they weren't all like that. Oklahoma fans from the past few years have solidified my position...some of the nicest folks I've met.

Rather be an asshole than a bandwagon fan. Funny how everytime I bring up how UC football used to be to a UC fan they all say, I was there through thick and thin. Well some of you prob were, but fact is the place would have been sold out every game when UC was not prominant if that were the case.

This is the same reason I hate OSU bball. Fans came out of the woodwork and started sayin UC basketball sucks.

The only people I have ever heard say they were there through thick and thin were UC Alums. I became a UC Football fan when I went to school there. I became a UC Basketball fan earlier than that when we moved to Cincinnati.

Fair.

In the 90's when I was at the games sitting next to UC fans dressed as bleachers, I did not notice a student section, a season ticket holder section. It just wasnt there.

In the late 90's/early 2000's, when I was a student, football games became the thing to do. It was free, you could buy beer, and it was fun to hang out with your buddies. I can't speak to attendance before that but I think I only missed 2 or 3 games in 5 years. One was that awesome Wisconsin game when they had Ron Dayne because I was up late studying and I over slept. I saw most of it on tv. Still pisses me off that I missed it! I guess going to the Pitt game a couple years ago makes up for it though.

01 Purdue game was a great atmosphere despite the loss. How college football should be

I would say I went to about 80% of the games when I was a student. I only missed when work got in the way. When students were in session and the weather was nice I remember there being decent student turnout. I went to school from 96-97 through 99-00 seasons. After graduation I tried to make it to as many games as possible going from anywhere from one to four games a year, but work and money were an issue for years. Also usually made it to the Victory Bell in Oxford every other year. I have been a season ticket holder for six years now, my first being Dantonio's last season. I remember being at some embarrassingly low attended games, even in the early part of my season ticket holding days. To say the average UC fan at this point is a bandwagon jumper who came on when we started winning is fair in my opinion but at the same time a little misleading. UC has a very large alumni base, so there probably are plenty of people who "supported" the program without $upporting the program. For those fans to come on board now to me doesn't really mean bandwagon but it will be interesting to see how much longer they'll stick around if BCS appearances aren't a regular thing. Most fans I talk to who on the outside don't appear to be die-hards are former students and alumni who are glad to see the team finally doing well. For me personally I'm a passionate sports fan and loyal to my local team. The day I decided to go to UC is the day I became an absolute die-hard Bearcat. While I wish everyone was like this, I understand why fans for years were apathetic about the football program, especially those older than me who went through much worse times than me. My freshman year we went to a bowl game and I always remember us being at least competitive every year since.

UC is ranked higher than Ohio State. Ohio State is afraid to play UC, Ohio State canceled next years UC game to instead play Central Florida.

Ralph throwing out completely wrong statements again. Just so everyone is aware- Jason S is correct, UC backed out of the game next year (pushed it to 2018) not OSU. Ralph, why did you make this up?

You seem to be taking this personally, so let me clarify...when I say OSU has a lot of asshole fans, I don't mean all OSU fans are assholes. Meaning, I'm not calling you an asshole.

That being said, you'd rather be an asshole than a bandwagon fan? What are you, some kind of asshole? :D

I just like saying the word asshole. But seriously (and I've made this point before), bandwagon fans are the only ones that get it right. While we agonize over the depths that our programs sink to -- recent UC b-ball comes to mind -- these guys don't give a damn. When we get good again, they celebrate in all the successes. We criticize them for not supporting a team that fails to meet their value equation, and they silently ridicule us for punishing ourselves by getting pissed when our team loses to Wofford. When you think about it, we're the idiots.

It would be ideal to be a bandwagon fan.

As for being an asshole, I admit, sometimes. Being an Ohio State fan hasnt forced me to be one, being a Purple Raider has! Google em. The Machine, The real "U", The Powerhouse, The Dynasty!!:D

Good to have a reasonable debate for once. I would call myself a huge college football fan, and an Ohio State Football fanatic. Your points make sense and I'm not calling all UC fans bandwagon fans, just seemed like in the early-mid 90's UC football was on the back burner

The city of Cincinnati and it's whole attitude in my mind breeds bandwagon fans. That could be left for another debate though. I'll say UC has a small loyal fanbase and a huge potential for bandwagon support. And honestly before 2000 I would venture to guess less than half the metropolitan area of the city even realized UC had a Division 1 football team.

As for me I grew up an Auburn fan as my dad went there and while he is by no means a sports fan he is a rabid Auburn Tiger football fan. I rooted for them and Florida State (for no reason really) and I guess South Carolina as well because my mom went there. Until I went to UC I had no reason to root for them in football because they were an absolute afterthought to anything else going on in the city. I rooted for them in basketball because they were successful and thus grabbed a young fan's attention. I can honestly say I don't ever remember hearing anything about UC football until I became a student...and I'm a big sports fan and followed college sports and grew up in Cincinnati after age the age of 10. Sad testiment to the media in this town. If they pushed UC like they push the Reds and Bengals we would have much better support. There are over 2.1 million people that call the Cincinnati area home. There's no reason we can't get a chunk of them to follow us simply because we're the local team. UC also boasts a large alumni base who I would have to say is mostly still local as most of their students are commuters from the area.

UC did not cancel the game. You're mistaken.

UC told OSU that UC may need the game to be moved because of the addition of TCU. OSU went ahead and moved the game and booked UCF.

Ill set it straight. No maybe or if's.

UC was told by the Big East that TCU was joining the BE. It was "set in stone" as UC was told. The BE told UC they needed to drop a game. UC dropped the OSU game. There was no probably or maybe about it.

OSU and UC won't meet up till 2014 and 2018.

And it is no ones fault, so not bashing UC

Here is what I do not understand.

Why is that UC Football always tries to compare or better them selves than The Ohio State. I respect the UC Football program and my day is not made by them losing. When The Ohio State loses all the UC Football fans come out of the woodwork and make dumb remarks, like bUCkeye state, we would beat Ohio State, and so on. Worry about your own team and respect the programs around you. Ohio is breading grounds for college football coaches all over the country. A lot of Ohio players go to UC, The Ohio St and all the Mac schools in this state. Wish them all well.

It is fans like this that turn me away from UC Football

I've got a question, and this is not an attack, just an honest question.

If you aren't a UC football fan then why do you actively seek out and post on a UC message board? You're like a regular on this board too....what's the deal with that?
