Fairmont State

71-54 final. Outscored them 42-24 2nd half. Better defensive effort. Terrible free throw and 3 pt shooting. Ellis is a stud. He had 16, Shaq 13, Moore 8.

Maybe someone can explain this to me. Mick wants to play good teams in exhibition so it isn't like a scrimmage...but then he is asked what Fairmont State does and he says "I have no idea". So isn't sending your players out there without a game plan pretty much a scrimmage? I'm a little confused about our approach to exhibition games. With 7 new guys, I understand testing them to see how they respond. But if you are purposely playing better competition, then why not gameplan a little so those new guys have specific assignments and a better idea of what preparing for a real game is actually like?

Mick wants to make it tougher on his team so they do no prep work. The coaches make them figure it out on the fly. It basically puts the Bearcats at a disadvantage since they have an advantage basically everywhere else. Pretty sure Huggs used to do the same thing. You'll obviously see game planning for the regular season.

Ok. That makes sense. I guess it is better for the new guys to go out and play their free/natural game in the exhibitions so the coaches can help them play to their strengths in real competition.

I know Cobb did for sure and I think Caupain did too.

Yeah, Cobb did right after my comment. I did forget about Morman's 3 on the sideline in the first half. Even still, we did not shoot the ball well today. From the floor and from the line. :(

Even though 71 points doesn't seem like much versus a team like Fairmont St, I thought we played better this game than last. Our game plan generally worked very well; I think we just had an off-day shooting. 2/16 threes and 19/34 FTs. I like to think that generally won't be the case. The 3 pointers were pretty good looks too. The passing was very solid. Everybody for the most part played aggressive on offense and defense. I expect a pretty big year out of Ellis. I think around 12 points/8 boards per game is well within his reach. I much prefer him over Jermaine Lawrence.

I'm not going to lie. I surely don't feel too good about going into the season as I did before those two exhibition games. There will def be some low points before it gets better.

After the post game comments it sounds like a lot of new guys are worried on their individual stats. Family members already complaining about pt and points. That's not a winning formula. They better shape up!
